Its Wherever You Want To Put It
Listen to "Its Wherever You Want To Put It" on Spreaker.
I start things off with a question that most can easily shrug off, "If you think going public with religion is a tough cookie try doing it with your daily writing." I free form the words that land on a page. I think it's because after 40 years of being a perfectionist in radio I decided in 1994 to just let stuff happen. No matter what don't let it be edited. My first published book One Man's 1021 Thoughts came directly from the daily writing. Simple thoughts from each day for a total 1021. Even while putting the book together to be back inside the daily writing felt like I had stolen someone's journal. I had to keep telling myself that it was ok to be present in this place. Which is pretty much what this episode is about. Those moments where you have to break away from people and go spend about ten minutes with yourself. Go talk it out. Go listen to the inner core of your present self. Not many get that. Yet they'll complain about having a bad day, year or life. It's because your outside shell or inner being has turned its back on the situation and there's a communication breakdown. Nowhere is it written that humans should not go sit down and have a conversation with themselves. Whip out the listening tools and prepare yourself for a question and answer. Free form it. Don't be a judger or perfectionist. Go into that ten minutes with the openness of knowing that your personal relationship with every character you are is going to be heard today, tomorrow and every day that follows. I do podcast that goes back 18 years into my writing. Sometimes I laugh, study deeper or shake my head from side to side. But in all things we do there's always a lesson. To activate it begins with a conversation. Free form it.
