Still Sixteen

Listen to "Still Sixteen" on Spreaker. October 30, 2020 Wow here we are! Google Maps says this is where we’re supposed to be. A huge moon in the sky at 4:30 this morning. The stars acting like an incredible backup band. And we get an extra hour of sleep this weekend? The little things make beautiful days! Gratefulness doesn’t just happen. It needs to be practiced. It needs to be activated and if you don’t show up then you need to be held accountable. All the things that make you grateful require energy from a different source and it needs to be recognized. We’ve made it too easy to locate everything that’s wrong in the world. Too much of our time is spent trying to repair what we’ve declared broken. I get it! Nobody wants to be looked upon as being a thrift shop. Who wants to be second hand news or an antique road show? We are convinced that every day is supposed to be new and improved. Yet we keep eating the same food. Watching the same television shows and complaining about the very things we did one to two years ago without investing anytime in helping to change it. You do realize there’s gonna come a day when we’ll meet for coffee and one of us is going to ask, “Do you remember eighteen years ago when that Covid 19 shut down the planet” What we’re allowing ourselves to live out daily is food for an already poisoned self. Changing your lifestyle means being aware of what you say not only to yourself but others! It’s too easy to be a Debbie Downer. Insert bad news here and then point a finger at who we assumed put us in that state of mind. Umm winning is a choice. So is sitting around complaining about politics, religion and a pandemic. Every person around us is built the same. Gotta get us some negative. It’s easier to complain then it is to change. I’m not embarrassed to say that the current state of the world put me behind a cash register at a grocery store. I get to talk with you. Listen to your stories. Laugh a lot and send you home in a better mood. A man said to me yesterday, “You must be new here. All this positive energy will soon wear off.” Not a negative. It’s awareness. A reminder to keep the ship moving forward. Being on the radio kept me away from your facial expressions. Being at a grocery store makes memories that can be carried into future conversations. Maybe this really is my dream job. If you could only feel the experience when a grumpy tired person steps up and within a minute or two we’re talking like two best friends. Find your real dream job. Careers are what we did before Covid 19 shut down everything.

Believing In Nothingness

Listen to "Believing In Nothingness" on Spreaker. October 29, 2020 Inventing sentences. I love sharing conversations with comedians that built their careers around an improv stage. They believe in turning the moment of “Now” into a connection. Inventing sentences is craftsmanship. It can take years to finely tune every string. Yet when you page through social media you fall witness to a lot of invented sentences that have a stinging effect on your emotional journey. Without daily writing my pages would sit empty. It’s learning how to physically trust the energy of the initial thought. It inspires the mental images to take shape. Not just writers but every walk of life requires each participant to find trust in “Nothingness.” To be without thought. Only to bring forward a process of connections. Most people walk away of the journey saying things like, “I’ve got nothing. I’m out of here.” I honestly look at the Covid crisis as being that single moment in history where the entire world was thrown into "Nothingness” and look how far the newer paths are reaching! Believe in your “Nothingness”. Amazing things grow from having a cleared heart and mind. We’re all consumed with too much information which in so many circles demands that you have an action to their reaction. The present day open space of “Nothingness” provides your ambition with the needed energy to either sort things out or take a step outside your protective self-governing self. To be seen as something you never thought you’d do. To participate with a layer of unexpected creative energy that was bombarded by your old self. The one that was trapped at a job that demanded 12 hours a day. It wasn’t your career. You being there was all about those who hired you. It was their career. Thanks for you time. Here’s a pink slip. Look it easily fits into a frame! “Nothingness.” Any page, canvas, song, movie, TV show to having a friend to friend conversation would sit empty without your investment of having faith in “Nothingness”. New ideas. New dreams. New ambitions and progress. Your heart generates endless amounts of character and a personality. You have plenty of selfies of who you used to be. Clear your mind and allow “Nothingness” give you the new air required to make yourself stronger than yesterday.

To Get By

Listen to "To Get By" on Spreaker. October 28, 2020 I still hear the conversations my parents had with me as a child, “What is it going to take to get you to shut up in class? Your teachers claim you talk too much!” When I finally learned how to simmer down is when I picked up my need to write. I still have the stories penciled into place while sporting a pair of second grader shoes. Writing has always been my voice. It’s not always easy to throw down thoughts. My discipline is to be present on the page at 4:30 every morning. Some crazy stuff is always churning. You may not know it but we all walk into walls of words. Constantly and endlessly hearing things and playing things out. It’s as if we’re getting ready for something that doesn’t want to be identified. A wall of words. Not always mine. Especially these days. News reels playing over and over. Friends and co-workers from our past leaping into play mode like subliminal messages designed to break us down. The daily goal for all of us should be to remain focused. These dimly lit often cloudy untouched new steps of experience are leaping out to a horizon only the naked eye can see. Eight months of quarantine and it’s gotten old to just show up. To play along. To allow the atmosphere of the greatest mystery of our time to consume every breath available. Unlocking the blocked. Freeing up the creative flow so that all things hear music. It’s time to help heal the silenced soul. In moments like this I envision my daughter calmly looking at her children and saying, “Use your words. Its best if I know what you’re thinking.” For all of us there’s too much to deal with. We feel as if there’s not enough room to build new foundations of hope and ability. We’ve got this right? This? What is this? Standing next to a wall of words it could take on the shape of anything. We’ve got this. What is this? We must remain disciplined. Focused on walking. Which is a valuable lesson learned while growing faithfully into a third degree black belt. Focus on walking. We weren’t trained to take things out with the foot fist way. The black belt path is making sure you don’t put yourself in places where you think you may need to use the tools. Uncertain times put so many people on the edge of a cliff unseen by those who make up your circle. Unless you use your words the human heart naturally thinks we’ve got this. What is your this?

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 223

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 223" on Spreaker. October 27, 2020 As much as we continue to hear how ugly and evil 2020 is and continues to be is every reason to keep looking toward the trees. Just because the human has put a label on these 52 weeks doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to walk its daily path with its head hung. Nature is having a fantastic year! The beauty experienced in forests, open fields and high atop mountains continues to share the lessons of learning how to survive a weighty struggle. A fourth hurricane during one season has been predicted to smash into New Orleans then skate across the sky to pour all of its energy into our soil. Yet there’s calm in my forest. The animal activity is minimal. An early fall breeze speaks out in ways that notify us of change. When it’s calm like this I’m able to hear a bee’s buzz several feet away. It’s so soft. Almost like God’s whisper. Natures calm is proving to be the best medicine. All things present creates awareness. Being aware of who we are and what we bring to each sunrise. This forest floor has stood next to me for 28 years. It’s carried me through some pretty rough storms. Belonging. Unconditionally. There’s love here. And there’s love in your steps. Physically remove the comparisons of what you think you should be doing and walk into nature. No judgement. No expectation. Being a great listener is a valuable tool. Build with the elements that are very active around us. Learn to look beyond the four walls of self and replenish the beauty taken from us during this pandemic. You have the talent. You have the skills. You are and were designed to reach people. Give yourself permission to utilize the energy of what you already know but it’s being used on a different platform. When I first got into radio forty one years ago I never dreamed that one day I’d be face to face with real people in a grocery store line. I’m working the cash register like a studio control board while building enormous relations with listeners I couldn’t see. Until now. You’re being requested. Lift your eyes and see the path. Bring yourself forward by way of choice.

Unplugged and Totally Uncut For Monday October 26

Today Monday October 26th on Unplugged and Totally Uncut. Tom Pettys Wildflowers and the Rest 7am The BBC America's Jo Shinner 10am Pod Crashing with Tammy Tuckey 1pm Play It Forward with MTVs Maxwell Zorick https://www.spreaker.com/show/994165

Tom Petty

Link up to the physical show: https://www.spreaker.com/show/994165/episodes/feed In November of 1994, Tom Petty released an album that was the culmination of a creative hot streak. Over the previous two years he had written, recorded and finished 25 songs. When he brought them to his new record company, they suggested that the market would not bear a double CD release and would he be willing to cut it down to a single disc. When Tom learned how much it would cost, he painfully removed 10 songs. Through the years he kept coming back to these songs, and, a few years before he passed, he decided to release the whole project. Sadly, he never lived to finish what he started. Tom's wife and daughters, along with Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench and archivist/engineer Ryan Ulyate have lovingly brought his dream to reality with the release of Wildflowers and All the Rest. This national radio special features music from this collection interspersed with an interview done with Tom at the time of the original Wildflowers release, as well as new interview with Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Adria Petty and producer Rick Rubin.

Don't Turn Off Those Ears

The spoken conversation posts at 9am eastern: https://www.spreaker.com/show/1010145/episodes/feed October 26, 2020 The places we are aren’t always misunderstood. No matter how many times we find reason to question where we presently stand and experience, the majority of it isn’t misunderstood. No! It’s unexplained. Growing into the role of becoming a third degree black belt, the deeper message wasn’t to be the best and greatest at kicking, blocking and award winning. The true stand was to be part of the community making the right choices during times of questionable reasons for believing. The evolution of mental strength moves beyond the ego and begins to layout a more productive approach to the present by way of being aware of how we can participate with and not run away from. What we are experiencing wasn’t designed by us. Our personal dreams of achieving have been divided by society’s disconnection. The authentic approach to where we stand is exactly where we are supposed to be. It’s our daily choice to locate faith in it or continue to be weak in battle.

Listen to "Play It Forward Episode 136 With Tommy DeCarlo From DeCarlo" on Spreaker. Hey it’s Arroe. This is Play It Forward. A look at the unexpected changes endured by entertainers, writers, camera people and all others affected but not infected by the global invasion of the Coronavirus. Real people. Real stories. The struggle to Play It Forward. Episode 136 with Tommy DeCarlo from the band DeCarlo He waited til forty three to jump in front of a larger than life crowd of Classic Rock fans as the singer for the legendary Boston. But would you call that Tommy’s greatest moment in life? Creating a band with his son is. DeCarlo has played their game exactly the way legends of music cut their teeth. Long nights on the road then crafting the performance at bars, unheard of festivals and car shows. They’ve never stopped except to give Tommy some time off to jump back on tour with Boston. The drive and passion to continuously lock their souls in presentation mode caught the attention of Frontier records. Building the band means building the business. Writing the original songs then mastering the tracks. Then it happened. The Covid-19 shutdown. Believe it or not for DeCarlo there’s been a positive. That’s Play It Forward. Listen to "RZA From The Movie Cut Throat City" on Spreaker. CUT THROAT CITY - Directed by RZA and Written by P.G. Cuschieri, with All-star Cast Featuring Shameik Moore, Wesley Snipes, Tip "T.I." Harris & Terrence Howard CUT THROAT CITY, an "ambitious, messy, sprawling and bullet-riddled crime epic" (Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times), explodes on Digital October 6 before hitting Blu-rayT Combo Pack and DVD October 20 from Well Go USA Entertainment. After Hurricane Katrina, four boyhood friends return to NOLA's Lower Ninth Ward. As FEMA fails to provide aid, they reluctantly turn to a local gangster for help. When the job tanks, they must outrun -- and outsmart -- a system rife with corruption. Bonus content includes behind-the-scenes footage and deleted scenes. Directed by RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists) and written by P.G. Cuschieri ("The Undercovers"), CUT THROAT CITY features a powerhouse cast, including Shameik Moore (Dope, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Tip "T.I." Harris (Ant-Man franchise), Demetrius Shipp Jr. (All American) and Kat Graham ("The Vampire Diaries"), along with Wesley Snipes (Blade, New Jack City), Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard (Best Actor, Hustle & Flow, 2005), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) and four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke (Best Supporting Actor: Training Day, 2001, Boyhood, 2014; Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay: Before Sunset, 2004, Before Midnight, 2013). Denzel Whitaker (Black Panther), Keean Johnson (Midway) and Isaiah Washington ("The 100") also play supporting roles.

Jeffrey Reddick

Listen to "Jeffrey Reddick From The Movie Dont Look Back" on Spreaker. While Jeffrey Reddick is keen to point out that his directorial debut, Don't Look Bac (out Oct. 16), shouldn't really be filed under "horror," the writer-turned-filmmaker is also anxious to assure readers that he is more than happy to be associated with scary movies. "I'm a genre fan, but this is definitely more of a mystery-thriller," Reddick tells EW. "It's about a group of people who witness somebody being assaulted in a park and don't help, and the victim dies. Somebody videotapes it, and the people are outed, and someone or something starts coming after them. It's got scary moments in it, for sure. But because of the nature of the story I had to keep what was behind the deaths a mystery, so we don't have the set pieces you would expect in a horror film." Regardless, Reddick has certainly spent much of his career in the terror zone, whether it's coming up with the idea for the Final Destination franchise or writing the 2008 Day of the Dead remake and the 2016 sleep paralysis movie Dead Awake. To help us celebrate the Halloween season, Reddick agreed to talk about his life in horror.

The Same Day Again

Listen to "The Same Day Again" on Spreaker. October 16, 2020 If there was a coffee or mustard stain on your shirt or pants would you bother to be embarrassed? Because of the masks we’re wearing how many of us are worried about having a clean snot canal? What? They’re honest questions! I heard a quote yesterday. Because of the pandemic our lives have changed but not the days. We wake up expecting to do things. By 4pm we haven’t budged on anything. 8pm rolls around and we’ve forgotten what we were supposed to do so we go to sleep to wake up to a new day. My tax accountant knows of this new age of procrastination. October 15th was the extended due date and multiple amounts of people were endlessly calling him for a second and third chance. Is it my imagination or has the single burger at Wendy’s gotten smaller? Wanna know something else that people haven’t heard or are totally ignoring? There were 25 hundred new Covid-19 cases reported in North Carolina yesterday. It’s a new single day high. Eight months into this pandemic and we still can’t get our heads out of our ***. On this podcast episode I’m gonna do everything I can to help turn this mess into a positive. The heart is only so strong. Our legs can only carry so much weight. Are you ready to face a tougher question? One that’ll probably turn you off and force your instinct to march to a different page? Is our faith in God so unstoppable that we physically believe that we’re untouchable? 25 hundred new Covid cases in North Carolina in one day. My father would grab me by the nap of my neck and latch onto my hair so I couldn’t get away and sternly shout, “What part of this aren’t you understanding? I’m looking for an answer not an excuse! Where along the line did you suddenly make your decision making greater than common sense?” 25 hundred. Personally this isn’t how I thought the rapture would play out. Are we living the existence of the making of what could be the Anti-Christ? Why did I take it there? Did I really need to bring up what so many children feared while growing up? Church for me in 1970 wasn’t about unbelievable worship bands and God being nice. Up in Montana we grew into a pair of shoes that put the fear of the Almighty into our decision making. We heard about the end of the world over and over again. The accountability at hand honestly has nothing to do with conspiracy theories and or spiritual beliefs but rather a personal decision to challenge ourselves to be real and stay real. To be aware and not falsify the facts. There’s no such thing as flying pigs. But I’ve fallen witness to the flying squirrels of Montana. They say Old Faithful at Yellowstone is probably gonna stop. In 400 years or more! There’s a positive in your everyday world. Everyday! Your positive is located in your choice. You have the power to make a physical choice to be or not to be positive. Uncertainty isn’t new. It’s been here since the beginning of time. How you choose to deal with it determines the presence of your positive.

JC Cervantes

Listen to "JC Cervantes Releases The Book The Storm Crosser" on Spreaker. Zane Obispo has been looking forward to his training at the Shaman Institute for Higher Order Magic, and not only because it means he'll be reunited with his best friend, Brooks. Anything would be better than how he has spent the last three months: searching for the remaining godborns with a nasty demon who can sniff them out (literally). But when Zane tracks down the last kid on his list, he's in for a surprise: the "one" is actually a pair of twins, and they're trying to prevent a mysterious object from falling into the wrong hands. After a shocking betrayal, Zane finds himself at SHIHOM sooner than expected. Even more shocking is the news that the Maya gods have gone missing. The bat god, Camazotz, and Ixkik' (aka Blood Moon) have taken them out of commission . . . and the godborns are their next target. The only thing the villains need now? The object that the twins possess. Zane knows the godborns aren't strong enough yet to stand up to Zotz, Ixkik', and their army. There might be a way to save the gods, but it involves locating a magical calendar that can see across time and space . . . not to mention traveling more than thirty years into the past. In The Shadow Crosser, Zane and his friends embark on their most treacherous mission yet--a mission that, with one blunder, could change history as we know it, and worse, destroy the universe.

Blake Mycoskie And Kevin O'Leary

Listen to "Blake Mycoskie and Kevin O Leary From Shark Tank Season 12" on Spreaker. The 12th season of ABC's Shark Tank kicks off Friday, October 16. In the premiere episode, a father and his 15-year-old son from Cincinnati, Ohio, help the Sharks get creative while sharing their solution for storing paint efficiently. Two tech-savy entrepreneurs from Somerville, Massachusetts, put the pedal to the metal when they show off their portable electric vehicle charger. A husband and wife from Milltown, New Jersey, think they can smell success as they pitch their product designed to keep garments safe from bacteria and odor, while an entrepreneur from Portland, Oregon, tries to convince the Sharks he brought blankets into the 21st century. Blake Mycoskie -- a serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and best-selling author most known for founding TOMS Shoes -- is the person behind the idea of One for One®, a business model that helps a person in need with every product purchased. A simple idea grew into a global movement: While traveling in Argentina in 2006, Mycoskie witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without shoes. His solution to the problem was simple yet revolutionary: create a for-profit business that was sustainable and not reliant on donations. Mycoskie’s vision soon turned into the simple business idea that provided the powerful foundation for TOMS. Since its inception, TOMS Shoes has provided almost 96 million pairs of shoes to children around the world. Mycoskie started the Social Entrepreneurship Fund to help early startups with core social missions get off the ground with much-needed funding. Since then, he has invested in over 25 social enterprises. This past spring, he co-founded his newest company,Madefor, a 10-month program that applies the principles of modern neuroscience, psychology and physiology to make the brain and body better. Created alongside scientists from Stanford, Harvard and other top universities, Madefor helps people learn and sustain positive habits and practices that have the greatest impact on their lives. Kevin O'Leary received an extensive education abroad from Cambodia, Cyprus, Tunisia, Ethiopia, France and Switzerland. After earning his Master of Business Administration, he founded Special Event Television - which created original sports programs such as The Original Six and Bobby Orr and the Hockey Legends. In 1986, O'Leary founded the Softkey Software Products (later renamed The Learning Company), the first software company to apply the principles of consumer goods to software. By 1998, O'Leary's company was the undisputed world leader in educational, reference and home productivity software - which Mattel acquired in 1999 for $4.2 billion. In 2003, O'Leary co-founded Storage Now, a leading developer of climate-controlled storage facilities. Operating in 11 cities, it was soon acquired by Storage REIT in March of 2007 for $110 million. Today, Kevin leads the O'Leary Finanacial Group, a group of companies that include O'Shares ETF's, O'Leary Publishing and an ever-growing roster of other businesses. He is also the founder and head sommelier of award-winning wine label, O'Leary Wines. Kevin is a guitarist, photographer, and best-selling author.

Allowing Us To Disagree

Listen to "Allowing Us To Disagree" on Spreaker. October 15, 2020 Right from the start I’ll admit that this is going to get heavy. Mainly because what we’re attempting to walk through as a people, generation and nation has got to be replenished with a new source of seeds for a future harvest. Oops. Three of you have already dropped off. At least my mom is still here. Mom? On this podcast episode I bring up a term that flowed through me at 5 this morning. The cry of the echo. The definition is simple but you may have to read through it a few times to understand its presence. The cry of the echo. The hearts endless attempt at wanting to navigate its way through the invisible emptiness caused by the presence of neglect and lack of accountability which has inspired a movement to let go and let die. Whoa! Come on dude! Have coffee first before you write! You have to understand that these assumed trying times are nothing more than what our hearts interpret as such. The cry of the echo. We all catch the same news headlines but we aren’t collaborating as a people but rather holding off on opinion due to a human need of being loved, liked and not lost. Verbal communication today acts as if it’s blasting away at this huge unstoppable mountain. Each party defends itself and rightly so. But the cry of the echo growing within, its unseen, unheard and unreleased until the breaking point takes on the shape of poverty, deceit, guilt, shame and all out embarrassment because the holder which is you, me, family and friends. Embarrassment because the holder knows they’re physically capable of accomplishing what they were designed to bring forward but are presently being held back by the parties involved. This is the part of the daily writing where I pen out a letter to the future reader. Dear Future Reader, the image and reality is that of multiple generations stuck in a silent mode of stay and wait. Yep. Stay and wait. The cry of the echo is our life in stalemate. Pull the lens of the camera back. This nation is being held together by essential workers that were once ignored by massive amounts of people because most wouldn’t be caught dead doing what they are expected. Yet today. Through their long hours and inner balance we are forging our way through a pandemic that’s badly injured brilliant decision makers, designers, chefs, broadcasters, actors, musicians and the list grows longer and deeper. The cry of the echo. The hearts endless attempt at wanting to navigate it’s way through the invisible emptiness caused by the presence of neglect and lack of accountability which has inspired a movement to let go and let die. Don’t stop. Your skills are needed. Maybe not where they once shined. But there’s a talent in you that brings out the best in others. My new reality? I’m that guy behind the cash register at the grocery store checkout line. Forty one years of radio and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to have real face to face talks with people trying to push away their personal echoes. Last night a senior in high school asked about how I’m able to these incredible conversations with anybody. My reply, “I show amazing interest in them. I take note of their presence and it brings forward an authentic connection.”

The struggle to Play It Forward. Episode 134 with Brian Deer… Controversy over vaccines is erupting around the globe. Public confidence wanes. Infectious diseases return. And a strident anti-vax movement has surfaced to oppose the immunization of children. From San Francisco to Toronto to Tokyo, fear is spreading. But why? In The Doctor Who Fooled the World, award-winning investigative reporter Brian Deer exposes the bitter truth behind the alarm. He unmasks the perpetrators and tracks the facts: where the crisis began; who is responsible; how they pulled it off; who paid. At the heart of this dark narrative is the rise of the so-called father of the anti-vaccine movement: a British-born doctor, Andrew Wakefield. Banned from medicine, thanks to Deer’s discoveries, he fled to the United States to pursue his ambitions, and now claims to be winning a war. That’s Play It Forward. Andrew Hawk Hawkins

Listen to "Andrew Hawk Hawkins From Dodgeball Thunderdome On Discovery" on Spreaker. For generations, dodgeball was a game of fun or fear depending on where you stood in the middle school pecking order. Now, Discovery transforms the game into an epic sporting adventure where everyday people become heroes. On an isolated 13.8-acre specially constructed site, the classic game of dodgeball is reimagined as Dodgeball Thunderdome where winners are not determined simply by their strength and the losers aren’t always picked last. Here, contestants have a chance to claim glory in extraordinary challenges where strength matters but so does strategy, quick thinking, and the willingness to leave everything on the field. This summer, pop culture phenom David Dobrik hosts this all-new competition series along with co-hosts Erin Lim and Andrew “Hawk” Hawkins. The competitors are ready to hit the playing field not just for the glory, but for redemption from the days of being picked last. Competitors range from professional athletes to those who’ve never played a sport in their life. But they all have one thing in common – a drive to win. It all culminates with a tournament of champions who will compete for a $25,000 cash prize. Andrew Hawkins is the co-host of Dodgeball Thunderdome. “Hawk” is a former NFL wide receiver, sports executive, Shorty Award winning personality, 2x Emmy Award nominated host for Sportscenter on Snapchat, and Executive Producer of an Oscar-winning film. He played six seasons in the National Football League with the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns, and is currently a personality and host with NFL Media.

Mentally Speaking

Listen to "Mentally Speaking" on Spreaker. October 14, 2020 To build up your courage and confidence doesn’t require pats on the back from friends and followers. Say that five times out loud. Make sure you can hear it as well as feel it. You don’t need pats on the back to maintain your strength in courage and confidence. But we do it anyway. We’re all guilty of posting a picture or thought on social media and become disappointed when the reaction is some to none. It totally deflates the positive purpose or method of emotion put into the purpose of the post. Your courage and confidence are constantly under attack. Another mindful moment is to understand that neither of them require a platform or base that’s been overshadowed by chance taking. Seeking to walk a tight wire in hopes of not falling. How many cliffs have you jumped off since the start of this Covid shutdown? Leaping outward in the name of fight or flight. Courage and confidence begin with self-belief and trust. Having faith in yourself. Which some might take as being filled with the universe or God. Love, trust, forgiveness and willingness still need a confident person to walk through that door. Let it begin with self. In your place of Now. Locating the strength to trust and have faith in your fast paced thoughts. Millions of them invade us every day. Knowing how to digest or deliver them requires courage and confidence. It doesn’t mean it’s going to be right. We should never walk into the wall or mountain expecting to find a victory on the other side. But you still had the courage and confidence to put one foot in front of the other. You are present. You are here. Allow yourself to be strong without seeking a pat on the back or making sure the rest of the world knows that you took out the trash today.

Dr Gina Serna

Listen to "Dr Gina Serna From The Hunt For Escobar's Hippos On Smithsonian" on Spreaker. Notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s brutal regime ended in a hail of bullets. His infamous reign of terror left Colombia with the legacy of a corrupt narco-state and something more bizarre: African hippos. In the 1980s, Escobar smuggled four hippos into Colombia to join his growing collection of exotic animals at his $63 million estate outside Medellin. Left to fend for themselves in the wake of his death, these extremely dangerous beasts – responsible for more deaths in Africa than lions or crocodiles – broke out. Today, breeding at twice their typical rate and with no natural predators keeping them in check, more than 60 roam the Colombian wilds, wreaking havoc in villages at night and threatening the ecosystem that feeds into the Magdalena River, Colombia’s main watershed. Surprisingly, Colombians adore their hippos despite the dangers, and it’s illegal to cull them. Left with no other option, Colombian veterinarian Dr. Gina Serna is tasked with capturing and sterilizing them – an operation extremely difficult to perform in the wild of Colombia. The situation of the Colombian hippopotamus is an ecological time bomb that urgently needs to be diffused. As the largest foreign invader in Colombia, these formidable creatures pose not only a serious threat to human life, but also to the country's wildlife and native ecosystem. Aggressively frontal and territorial, the consequences could be catastrophic.

But everything changes during a chance encounter with the king's daughter, Allegra. Despite her station, she's in as grave of danger from her own people as Everson is. The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 222

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 222" on Spreaker. October 13, 2020 The things we do without knowing why we put so much energy into it. So many people have openly talked about loving the idea of knowing what our future holds. I shy away from such a feeling because if I knew what to expect I’d spend more time trying to change it. Like this forest that I live within. If I had known in 1992 what I see and experience today I’d be a completely different person. Rather than patiently wandering and wading through the challenges and changes a collection of trees endures daily, the mission would’ve been to hit Home Depot and Lowes and replenish the land with magazine cover limbs and leaves. The choice wasn’t made to follow that game. What I heard in my heart 28 years ago was to be present. To learn from the curves of a universal world then try to teach the activation to a future reader. On this podcast episode we put the energy of this forest into a frame of mind. A thought. And how investing in a thought can truly be the only answer required during their Covid days of assumption. This forest has served as my source of energy. From the roots inside the soil to being a writer on the outside, the constantly changing atmosphere evolves into words on a page. It’s the very forest my wife and I shared our wedding vows in. No day passes that I still don’t see how we gathered on a 102 degree day. What happened after that became a thought turned into a lifelong journey. The land was becoming bare and those living near the multiple trees wanted to clear. It was time to work closely with everybody’s ideas and reasons behind their thoughts and patterns. By 1997 just over seventeen hundred seedlings had been placed on the map. The wounded layer of land was trusted to bring forward something so incredibly invisible that I could never locate the right thoughts to share with anyone willing to listen. When time put me in the trees there were no deer, hawks, owls, snakes and other furry or fuzzy creatures. Today it’s an incredibly different story. Because I invested in a thought. Which a lot of us have been given during these shutdown moments. Thoughts come at us like water raging down a mountain stream. How many of your thoughts make it to the roots of others needing something to drink? Thoughts inspire and influence our personal need to giving. In doing so it’s completely natural to think of it as relinquishing. Bye bye had a good time but you’ve got to go. What if the story changed? Instead of tossing out, we look at the moment as being a continuation with connection. A community of strength and rejuvenation. What does that have to do with a forest that faced its final seasons in the 1990’s? That thought turned into a choice was never meant for me but rather tomorrows travelers. I walk several miles inside the greenways every weekend knowing someone’s thoughts made the path possible. I’m not inviting you to become a tree hugger and start replenishing your backyard. I used the forest as an example. To stop hoarding what you think and make a path for a generation you may never meet. Live beyond the present by investing in a thought. Let it grow. Let it become the existence of reason. Then pull the camera lens back and write to the future readers about the changing seasons. Your thoughts are meant to be present and possible. Believe in them and tomorrows readers will be grateful for the chance you took.

Listen to "Play It Forward Episode 132 With Joey Sykes Saving Music In Schools" on Spreaker. Hey it’s Arroe. This is Play It Forward. Mike Figgis And Ronnie Wood

Listen to "Mike Figgis And Ronnie Wood From The Documentary Somebody Up There Likes Me" on Spreaker. Somebody Up There Likes Me traces Wood’s 50-year musical history, from The Birds, The Jeff Beck Group, The Faces (with Rod Stewart), and The New Barbarians, to becoming a permanent member of The Rolling Stones. Additionally, Mike Figgis captures Wood’s charismatic warmth, energy and honesty as he speaks openly about his battles with drink and drugs. The film takes its title from a conversation with Wood about surviving his chronic smoking habit: “When they operated on my cancer, they took away my emphysema. They said my lungs were as if I’d never smoked. I thought: ‘How’s that for a Get Out Of Jail Free card?’ Somebody up there likes me, and somebody down here likes me too.” The documentary features brand new interviews with Wood’s Rolling Stones bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, as well as his Faces bandmate, Rod Stewart. Other interviewees include Wood’s wife Sally Wood, singer Imelda May and artist Damien Hirst, alongside both present-day performances and archive footage from Wood's stellar multi-band career. These interviews and performance segments blend with footage of Wood playing guitar and harmonica (a reminder of his talents as a versatile instrumentalist), as well as quiet, personal moments while he paints in his studio. It climaxes with Wood giving a beautiful, intimate performance of “Breathe On Me” from his 1975 solo album New Look. Somebody Up There Likes Me is a fresh look at Ronnie Wood – a rewarding and compelling insight into one of music’s most likable, successful and complex key players. Ronnie describes the film as summing up “the essence of survival” in a life he continues to live to the fullest, without regrets, “I wouldn’t change anything except I’d do it with my eyes open a bit more,” he says, “I was in the hands of destiny all my life…and being in the right place at the right time”.

Stop Being A Bystander

Listen to "Stop Being A Bystander" on Spreaker. October 12, 2020 An open honest question. One heavily inspired by the actions and reactions of regular everyday people physically trying to communicate. Have we convinced ourselves to expect this day and every day to be another twenty four hours of doom and gloom? My go to point of influence and inspiration has always been to hit a Bible page or verse. By way of transparency I must admit that even that decision has hit a high rate of deflation. I can study the word all day and listen to the biggest and best preacher teachers on the planet only to return to the pandemic, an election that’ll never arrive, the constantly growing hurricane season, unemployment and whatever else can be dropped into the picture. Have we convinced ourselves to expect this day and every day to be another twenty four hours of doom and gloom? I heard the best first step quote the other day on the Michelle Obama podcast. She was talking with the Michele Norris about the state of our nation. Miss Norris’s view is completely different. She said, “We have to stop reaching for getting back to normal and start reaching for getting better.” We don’t need to put our energy in trying to get to a normal life. The daily goal and ambition should be fed by wanting to live a better life. The very second I heard the quote I instantly started thinking about the millions of bystanders on this path of personal choice. We’ve stopped planting the seeds leading toward better dreams and success stories. In all that we should be doing we’ve chosen to set ourselves to the side of the road. To watch what’s happening. To point fingers and blame on the walkers. Waiting for them to make that one mistake then shout out, “I told you fate would catch up to them!” Of course we’re doing it! I see your social media. The pictures and videos. The number of smartphones being raised in the air to document a moment. Not change the path and or decision to become better. Bystanders! Then when things don’t unfold the way we thought it should we make noise. Besides capturing the moment on your smartphone what did you do to maintain a connection to make the right choices in change? Bystanders! Why? Because we have convinced ourselves to expect this day and every day to be another twenty four hours of doom and gloom. You know! Let other people fix it or continue breaking it. People act if they want nothing to do with it until it’s ready to rock. Until then…we’ll let this sporting event continue to play out as is. Bystanders! “We have to stop reaching for getting back to normal and start reaching for getting better.”

ChrisLee

Listen to "ChrisLee From NBC's Songland" on Spreaker. “Growing up, there was always a lot of other Chris’s everywhere,” Chris Lee told American Songwriter. “In classes and stuff people ended up just calling me ‘Chris Lee’ because it stood out.” Years later, Chris Lee — who now goes by ‘ChrisLee’ — is still standing out. On Monday night, Lee became the newest winner of NBC’s “Songland,” the show which features songwriters pitching their songs to a panel of celebrity ‘producers’ — Shane McAnally, Ryan Tedder and Ester Dean — and a guest artist. This week, the guest was the influential vocal group Boyz II Men, who actually made the unprecedented move to record all of the songs pitched to them. However, Lee’s song “Love Struck” still received special recognition as the winning song… which makes sense considering that it is a grooving pop number which feels perfectly situated for the glossy sound of Boyz II Men. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Lee has been writing songs since he was in elementary school. As a beautiful reminder of the importance of teachers — an especially powerful sentiment in today’s quarantine world — Lee cites his music teacher, Bob Berzack, as the person who spurred his life’s journey.

Chris Whipple

Listen to "Chris Whipple Releases The Book The Spy Masters" on Spreaker. From Chris Whipple, the New York Times bestselling author of The Gatekeepers, comes a highly anticipated book, the most thorough and illuminating portrait ever of America's CIA directors-based on extensive interviews with the directors themselves-those upon whom the country depends to prevent another 9/11, or even a deadly pandemic. Epic in scope, spanning seven decades of intelligence gathering, espionage and covert warfare, and intimate in detail, featuring indelible portraits of the directors, this is the definitive story of the men-and, currently, the woman-who keep the secrets-The Spymasters: How the CIA Directors Shape History and the Future (Scribner, on-sale: September 15, 2020; $30.00/hardcover). What's the proper relationship between the CIA director and the president? Should directors obey illegal orders? How important is the director's role as the nation's honest broker of information during times of crisis? What's the truth about Gina Haspel's involvement in the brutal interrogations at a CIA "black site" in Thailand? And how, as director, does she manage Donald Trump, who famously rejects intelligence that conflicts with his beliefs? Through exclusive, unvarnished, and eye-opening interviews with former CIA directors and other top U.S. intelligence officials, including George Tenet, Leon Panetta, John Brennan, and David Petraeus, The Spymasters answers these questions and more, offering inside stories behind our country's greatest intelligence coups and blunders: . Was the coronavirus pandemic Donald Trump's preventable 9/11? The epilogue of The Spymasters reveals new details about the intelligence community's warnings about the emerging COVID-19 threat, and President Trump's failure to heed them. In January 2020, as the virus was spreading in the U.S., Trump's intelligence briefings-a daily occurrence for most presidents-had almost completely broken down. Throughout January, Trump was briefed not two or three times a week, as had become usual for him, but once a week. Items about the pandemic appeared regularly in the President's Daily Brief (PDB)-but Trump did not bother to read it. Moreover, Trump was, for all intents and purposes, unbrief-able. Convinced that the intelligence community was a deep state, honeycombed with traitors, the president rarely believed anything the CIA told him. Against this backdrop, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived with horns honking and sirens blaring. Tens of thousands of lives depended on quick action-yet Trump looked the other way. Why is it so difficult for CIA directors to convince presidents of what they don't want to hear? . Trump's difficulty understanding security briefings. In The Spymasters, a senior intelligence official described trying to brief the president: "We were talking about surveilling domestic terrorism suspects, and at some point he just said, 'Why wouldn't we just deport them?' And we had to say, 'Well, we're talking about people who are U.S. citizens, sir. So no, deporting them isn't really an option.'" . Gina Haspel's unlikely journey from shadowy covert operative to CIA Director, and how she earned the confidence of Donald Trump. But can she stand up to him? . Russia's massive interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election-despite Donald Trump's continuing effort to deny the plot's existence. The Spymasters details John Brennan's discovery of the plot, James Clapper's conclusion that it tipped the election to Trump, and the Obama administration's efforts to combat Russia's covert campaign-which were stymied by Republican antipathy toward President Obama. . The untold story of the CIA's biggest manhunt ever. The never-before-reported account of the agency's botched attempt to capture Hezbollah's operational mastermind. And new details about the joint Mossad-CIA covert operation that finally succeeded in eliminating "the Scarlet Pimpernel" of terrorism in 2008. . The failure of George W. Bush's White House to heed the CIA's urgent warnings of an imminent Al Qaeda attack prior to 9/11, sounded during a dramatic July 10, 2001 meeting with Condoleezza Rice. And how, by failing to take a simple action, the administration missed an opportunity to unravel the 9/11 plot. Sweeping, illuminating, and rivetingly told, The Spymasters offers the most revealing look yet inside the CIA's wilderness of mirrors.

Yo Watz Up

Listen to "Yo Watz Up" on Spreaker. October 9, 2020 It’s a choice to live in controlled chaos. I’ll never find myself on the cover of a magazine. Controlled chaos means being so far out there that all things looked upon as being normal runs out of air to breathe. It’s the only way you can calm the mind body and soul during yet another hurricane/tropical storm. Here comes Delta! As the Gulf prepares those of us on the inside of the nation emotionally embrace. And that’s what this podcast episode is about. While the men and women of the weather channel world drive up our anxiety levels with their sensationalism, the mental task is to call out the truer message. They’re hyping it up for their advertisers! They’re getting exactly what they need. It’s you and me to click onto their popup ads or watch them on TV. Our need to know is making people money. Anchors and weather people are crafted into a working machine to not inform but to drive people to making a buying decision. Look at all those car commercials! If something does go wrong you’re being programmed to know where to go. It’s who we’ve become in everything we are. I’ve spent the past six months studying the behavior of CNN.com Foxnews.com and even the BBC. The headlines change but the story remains. And none of the stories are the same on any of the pages. I’d love to see myself without social media. But that’s not going to happen. We’re addicted. Nobody knows where a hurricane is going to land and how it’s going to perform as it skates across the nation. A little puff of wind can send the tropical storm in a completely different direction. What do we get from it? Another reason to hate 2020. All of that energy wasted on something blown completely out of proportion. Making the right decision can’t be written two days out. If you live in the southeast then you should always be prepared with candles, batteries, flashlights, food, gas and the knowledge of what to do if something goes boom in the middle of the night. We go through this every year without the weather people forking out their verbal performances. Being present in your place of Now is the best place to grow. My Master in martial arts would always ask, “Is there something in your ability right now that can change what’s taking place. If the answer is no. Then move on.” I laugh out loud when coming across a story about how China and Russia are reaching through the internet to control our actions and decisions. It’s not them. It’s the news and weather people. They’re more powerful than a southern preacher. In all things you do everything you do is moved by what they share. Be aware of your emotions by being equal with love and peace. More importantly locate forgiveness. Always be ready to embrace and do everything you can to not write the story before the event takes place. Wasted energy is lost energy.

Michael Ian Black

Listen to "Michael Ian Black Releases The Book A Better Man" on Spreaker. Michael Ian Black is many things: actor, comedian, screenwriter, award-winning children’s book author, essayist, memoirist, podcaster. He is also a man, and the father of a boy on the cusp of manhood himself. In his poignant and insightful new book, A BETTER MAN: A (Mostly Serious) Letter to My Son (Publication Date: September 15, 2020; $24.95), Black offers a thoughtful and personal appraisal of the complicated meaning of masculinity in our times. Written in the form of a letter to his son as he gets ready to leave for college, this blend of memoir and advice, written with both weight and wit, challenges the outdated assumptions that society continues to impose upon boys about their place in the world. “Obviously, Michael Ian Black can be funny, but who knew he could write something so raw, intimate, and true?” says Peggy Orenstein, New York Times bestselling author of Boys & Sex. “A BETTER MAN cracked me wide open, and it’s a template for the conversation we need to be having with our boys.” Raising an admirable son in the era of the Angry White Male, marked by school shootings and gun violence, #MeToo outrage, and wider acknowledgement of complex gender issues, is challenging, Black suggests. “Traditional masculinity encourages strength, independence, fortitude. All good qualities,” he writes. “At the same time, though, it provides no useful outlets for our vulnerability. If we cannot allow ourselves vulnerability, how are we supposed to experience wonder, fear, tenderness? If we cannot turn to others for help, what do we do with bewilderment and frustration? How do we even express something as elemental as joy?” Black tackles these serious questions with characteristic humor and a respectful grace. As he writes to his son, Elijah, Black recalls the day the boy arrived in the world and the thicket of emotions that accompanied that arrival. He shares stories of his own complicated relationship with his father, who died when Michael was a child, and his upbringing in an often-contentious lesbian household. He recalls his own coming of age in a time when boys were routinely told to “act like a man,” with no direction on how to do so—or even what those words meant. Based on both personal experience and thoughtful observation of the rapid changes that are taking place in our society, he searches for the best way for his son—and all the boys of the rising generation—to navigate that change and become more evolved men than the vast majority of those who have come before. For today’s fathers he asks and seeks the answers to a difficult question: how can we be, and raise, better men? “Thank you Michael Ian Black for challenging society's antiquated approach to raising boys, and deepening the conversation about what we actually want for our kids,” says Samantha Bee, host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. I hope you will decide to prominently share this timely and heartfelt book with your audience this May. I will be in touch soon to discuss opportunities

The Hand That Feeds You

Listen to "The Hand That Feeds You" on Spreaker. October 8, 2020 Well here we are! Eight days into the tenth month. The morning after the VP debate. How ya feeling? Are your shoes tied? Did you remember to floss your teeth this morning? 5:35 this morning I was there! Sitting in my writing chair. Just like I’ve done for the past twenty six years. Openly I admit that words don’t come to me. They move through me. Which means what to a non-writer? People always ask me how I do what I do. I can never answer them. Cuz I don’t know how I do what I do. I just show up! Writing is one of my do’s. And for the past seven to eight months what I write has upset a lot of people. That’s what we’re talking about on this podcast episode. When our awareness and words bang into another moving vehicle and there’s no guarantee you’ll still be family or friends. Putting anything on social media is nothing more than an invitation to get crushed. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to talk with a lot of people of fame and those trying to gain it. I’m a broadcaster of forty one years! It’s in my blood to want to talk! When I get that moment with someone that others don’t agree with. They act as if it’s the end of the world. Awareness is my guiding light. A preacher once said to me “I will always take the time to talk with an atheist. Not because I want to change them. I just want to know what the other team is up to.” We all agree that 2020 sucks! I’ve gone through gallons of Lysol and Odor Eaters to try to sweeten the air we breathe but it just doesn’t work! I don’t mean to rough up the edges of the pretty picture but if the evidence left at the crime scene requires a physical act of accountability it needs attention. This is probably why I have very few friends. I chuckle about that. Mainly because I’m usually the one making the mistakes and I openly admit my faults. My mother drove a single thought through my thick skull “In everything you do there are others living it as well.” So here we are! The eighth day of the tenth month during the year that is 2020. Did you ever get that annual physical at the doctor? I’m trying to get there! What if the highly educated fixer upper guy or girl is carrying the Covid-19? How ya feeling about these huge corporations closing their doors? Quitters! Not leaders. Quitters. That movie theater chain that told 46,000 of their employees that it’s over is getting away with being an acceptable quitter. Did movie theater goers quit them during a bad Hollywood year? Nope. Did movie fans refuse to buy popcorn and a drink while accepting another bank loan to pay for it? Nope. Did those who like watching moving pictures on a big screen scream about how messy the theater was and did nothing about it? Nope. Why then did the movie theater chain walk out on those who have always supported them? This is every bit the reason why we’ve chosen to watch movies at home. You know who is leading? That damn Walmart. They deliver to my house now. They could’ve quit! Amazon is the king of the kingdom. Walmart is taking them on. So is Home Depot and Lowes. In an age of excuses and laziness now is not the time to hang up your daily dreams and ambitions. My dad would say “Figure it out. Just don’t stop.” How much money does the CEO and other decision makers at the major league movie theater company get for quitting? I ask this because the employees have run out of unemployment benefits and the fans of movies on the big screen might not have enough cash to hand over to Netflix, Hulu and Disney. It’s a daily mess. Wipe the cow manure off your shoes and let’s get across this hot desert.
