Unplugged and Totally Uncut December 31st

Today!!! Friday December 31st on Unplugged and Totally Uncut!!! Here we are! The final paragraphs of the year that was 2021. Hollywood is showing up to keep us entertained. Ryan Jay reviews The Last Daughter which was directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Emotional by way of covering subjects we should be talking about but tend to walk beyond. It's in theaters and on Netflix. Hey it's the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter. If you're a fan or just discovering you need to check out Return to Hogwarts. It's filled with so much history and you'll be updated on new events. And finally Ryan Jay reveals his Top Movie List of 2021. Surprisingly it features a lot of martial that was blasted across our flat screens. 11am post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/48120658 Then we're Playing It Forward with two of the doctors who traveled with Will Smith around the world on Welcome to Earth on Disney+. Dr's Diva Amon and Albert Lin. 7pm post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/48120995

The Right Investment

Listen to "The Right Investment" on Spreaker. Collard Greens and Black Eyed Peas on New Years Eve. Had to do some research. When combined it's supposed to invite good luck. The greens represent money and the peas are said to be magical. Hmm. The optimistic pessimist in me sees the connection to money. Both items like money shrink. I was with my financial advisor yesterday. He's very optimistic. 2022 is gonna have some tough moments but in the end there'll be reason to celebrate. That being said. Being on the frontline the words I keep hearing don't match last New Years Eve. So many people were gung ho about partying 2021 into action. I'm not hearing that about tonight. Maybe it's the Omicron variant. A guest last evening shouted, "I hope 2022 will be different." My reply, "Only we can change it." Are there enough Collard Greens and Black Eyed Peas to bring everyone good luck? But is it about luck? Cuz for the past 22 months I've invested everything into faith.

The Daily Mess: Aware Of What Is

Listen to "The Daily Mess Aware Of What Is" on Spreaker. Is it the scent or the taste of coffee that invites peace to our soul? Is it the doves singing softly in the background or my dog Jazzie sleeping next to me? The daily goal is to recognize where peace is and grow from the moment. Walking outside after a night or horrid storms all things are extremely wet and damaged and yet nature remains so peaceful. The deer are dining acting as if nothing happened. Locating what is peaceful without having to make it. Take note of the solitude then participate with the universe. Don't make today about you. Make it a greater day because you chose to believe in the energy around you.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 275

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 275" on Spreaker. I've always been fascinated with the messages people pass forward. We grow up thinking our parents are harsh by creating rules that were put out there to help protect us. As we evolved into adult clothing those sharp words were actually very valuable. How often do you turn around and thank the child you once were? I wouldn't be celebrating 42 years of broadcasting if it wasn't for that five year old locked up in his bedroom gripping tightly to his radio dreams. But one day, I'm going to have to turn and share the conversation. To thank him then say, "It's over." The same will be true with the writer in me. That kid in the second grade that convinced Mrs. Keefe that he would be a better student if she allowed him time every day to write. I continue to do so today. Everyday! What happens when I have to turn around to have that conversation? You too! Have you already had it? Then it occurred to me on this podcast. Is that what happens during the transition? The seconds before your final breath. You slowly turn and say, "Thank you."

Stream Thinking:What Day Is It

Listen to "Stream Thinking What Day Is It" on Spreaker. What day is it? Not the date of the moment of writing this but when you are reading it. I've talked with hundreds of published authors about the origin of thought making its way to a bookstore release. What day is it when the reader discovers it? I feel we've wasted a lot of precious time since the start of the pandemic running around trying to catch up where we used to be. So much so that we've lost direction with the days of the week. It's going to be 2022 in four days! In March of 2020 they said it would take two years or more to heal from the pandemic. That fast! We're knocking on the door of 2022. What day is it? I'm extremely guilty of showing up just to be seen. I leave a lot without saying, "Goodbye." What day is it where you are? What took so long for us to meet?

When It's Applied

Listen to "When Its Applied" on Spreaker. A thought was given to me while in a moment of connection this new sun. Wisdom works when it's applied. No day or moment passes that we aren't given messages and or lessons. Like when your smart phone sets free a popup that reads, "Currently offline." Instantly that allows me to have enough open space to gut check my heart. Am I offline? Or how about the website that says, "Unable to connect?" We've all been there! How do you act and react to your real life situation when the connection to others has been interrupted? Just like Alexa we take in so much information. Except if she were to ask a question we'd have a difficult time instantly replying. There are so many places that make sense but somehow it still leads us to asking questions. The answers are always right there in front of us.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 274

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 274" on Spreaker. I've never seen the forest stress out over change. The trees and tall grass treat it like a dance. As humans, why are we challenged by our roots. We consistently want to grow on the other side of the fence. Challenged are the inner creations that influence the mental behaviors of a mild ride on a railroad of process and purpose. When we are to be silent we find reason to locate an argument. With changes come fight. Learn from the limbs of a tall or small tree. Mindfulness allows the changing of all seasons to move through you. It's only one step on a very long journey.

This coming from one of the shortest kids in middle school who somehow stretched beyond six feet by the eleventh grade. I've lost another inch to five foot eleven. Was it the Covid 19 lockdown? We walked but we didn't stretch. We did a lot of television binge watching! How many others have lost inches in height because of those long lockdown days and nights?

Stream Thinking: Choosing To Be Liked

Listen to "Stream Thinking Choosing To Be Liked" on Spreaker. A silent page cannot shape an echo. To succeed with that process a decision to be present must find fuel from a resource. For the known source used to create a supply has elected to hide from a morning of writing. A page isn't silent. The artist is. Enter self judgement, ridicule and the fear of looking at your eyes in the mirror. It seems so easy to write yet it's the heaviest object you've ever picked up.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 272

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 272" on Spreaker. Locating your personal forest doesn't mean a collection of trees. When I speak of the forest it's that place of mindfulness and solitude. Walking beside a very busy street with a distant train on the horizon is very calming to me. So is checking in with a huge flock of very noisy black crow. With so much muck and crud in our lives since the lockdown, the idea of locating your personal forest is a set it aside decision because it's easier to deal with binge watching television or checking with a really bad Christmas movie. Find a place. Go there to just listen. Let the universe step into you then through you. Becoming part of the flow of process gives your inner soil every reason to believe in being replenished. Let life grow.

Stream Thinking: Who Are We

Listen to "Stream Thinking Who Are We" on Spreaker. November 1, 2021 Who are we? Fans of any sport consistently remind each other of who their favorite stars used to be. Nobody wants to be a used to be! Which you can almost never be on social media. Followers instantly get their rush then race to find another then another. I’m so guilty of this! I’ll follow you into that digital place and space until there’s a disagreement. With so many opinions pouring through our smart phones the idea of having common sense and love with respect for all things is what we used to do. There are sides of people I’m not sure I was supposed to see. And that’s what this entry is about. Those who do see you can also be seen by others through your social media connection. What seems like an innocent picture or entry on your behalf can actually be quite damaging to others. So I made it a point to keep my pages clear of politics, violence of any type and or a reason to bring a rise in the public’s eye. That decision hasn’t worn well within the circles I keep, “You blocked me?” I had to! There’s nothing worse than someone writing to you about a post someone else put up. As a martial artist I must be aware of my community. Social media is a huge community. Becoming aware of not only your presence but those who post on or are connected to. We’ve become numb yet challenged to reach into areas that would’ve once been labeled abusive. Could the Netflix binge watching series The Squid Games become a reality? Nobody wants to be a used to be. Therefore we keep raising the bar of expectation. Remember when the MMA was under heavy attack for being too violent?

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 268

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 268" on Spreaker. November 2, 2021 I start this with a total set up. The commitment to make your way back to the very place you once shared your wedding vows. Even if you’ve been whittled back to being one. Being in that place isn’t living in the past but rather tapping into a source of energy. July 11, 2021 and every day before it for 28 years I’ve been in the very place where our vows were brought to the openness of the atmosphere. That day in this forest that which I live we shared our handwritten very personal one on one wedding words and expressions. It feels like the blink of an eye. Yet the tree line has changed. Limbs have broken. 28 seasons of leaves dancing in the fall wind. Poison Ivy vines thickened and nature’s animal kingdom has increased. But it didn’t happen in the blink of an eye. The deer didn’t suddenly arrive. The hawks with their beautifully constructed nests didn’t appear overnight. I’ve met several years of snakes but only one of them came with poison. In our vows my wife and I made it clear to those who attended that we weren’t there to create a promise. The day would forever represent a growing guarantee. Our shapes have changed. We aren’t perfect which means we face our challenges. The forest that which we shared our vows in has been with us the entire way. Because so much life has grown around us it proves that it was a day of not becoming one but place of continuation and universal partnership. Which is why I extend the challenge to you. Go be in the very place you once stood. Go there to view all that has changed including you. Look at what you were once part of. Take note of how and why you chose to be there. There’s a story. Share it or someone will write it for you.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 267

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 267" on Spreaker. What day will I return to this page? It's an interesting thought because it has the power to predict as well as pull you back into a past you can't change. Being present always wins because your inner censors can be kept under control. I asked on that day how much the forest will change when I return on a different day. The answer is everyday there is change.

Stream Thinking Go Be With The Receiver

Listen to "Stream Thinking Go Be With The Receiver" on Spreaker. October 27, 2021 What I rarely hear are the inner designs of other creative minds. Although I’m blessed with the opportunity to share conversations with actors, musicians, authors and yes even chefs, doctors and motivational speakers. The daily goal is to get to that single place where someone who is listening can hear for themselves that they aren’t alone. That’s what this has always been about. You aren’t alone. Creative minds need to help share the process of becoming part of this gallery of art. There’s so much history in all shapes and shades of the performance. But what we aren’t getting are the experiences of those who keep trying. No fame. No large money. They hold the craftsmanship of the performance. The struggles and the silent nights go unheard. They reach beyond and not back. Not everybody’s supposed to make it. But we can endlessly keep trying.

I Can't Live Without It

Listen to "I Can't Live Without It" on Spreaker. October 13, 2021 When written thought becomes spoken word. Will it be enough to inspire action? No matter how strong your heart is, at the drop of a hat human emotion easily turns into a follower. When projected a single thought plants a seed. Ultimately it’s our choice to believe. We play the white picket fence game. Pitting the right side against the left. Both sides could be right. How is that possible? Leaders say things over and over so that those following begin to believe. It’s like radio and television commercials that convince you to buy a product. You didn’t need it until they said you did. Amazon has made billions banking on telling you what you need. As a daily writer I study thought. That doesn’t mean I have mine under control. It means I’m aware of what has strength and what shouldn’t be set free. Which is an awkward way of moving through traffic in an age when sounding off about any subject gets you hits on social media. It’s as if we’ve given ourselves permission to bark like dogs. But are you biting? This reminds me of my neighbor. About fifteen years ago he sent out an email to everybody around him asking us to quiet our dogs. Please this barking is getting out of hand. Today he has two very large dogs that love to spread their music through the hood. It proves how you can turn your bite around. Becoming aware of what you write before it becomes spoken word.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 266

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 266" on Spreaker. October 12, 2021 A cool early summer breeze sweeps across my writing. The atmosphere of being present gives sight to my senses. Taking note of last night’s super moon. It was dubbed a strawberry moon. I stood watching as it slowly moved across the sky. It was so incredibly bright. I could see everything the forest was providing. Within our personal walk and way, are there moments of such clarity? What is your super moon? If we had such a perfect view how much would you change? We do it all the time in our front and backyards! It must look this way or it’s yanked. How much of your inner garden is lit up by a strawberry moon? An object that can no longer be missed. It travels with us. Just like a cool early summer breeze. If we were to choose to chase the breeze how far from our super moon will we grow? Will we find our way back? A fellow broadcaster once told me that each of us are given three life changing career decisions. The goal is to locate which one will truly be your calling. What walk did you take that has completely replanted your roots in a different soil and there’s no path to lead you back? Chasing podcasting in 2012 became my way of life by 2016. As big as it is around the world there are way too many choices for listeners. If I had known this nine years ago would the super moon have led me in a different direction? What choice did you make because a super moon cleared the debris? You jumped and there’s no way you can get back? In 1997 I began a creative journey with paint on a canvas. I really enjoyed seeing it in galleries then getting to know each and every new owner. By 2005 the art was featured in New Orleans. Bad show. Very bad show. I’ve not put paint on a canvas ever since. I can’t locate the super moon. Locating your super moon is one thing. Trust it means? How much are you willing to give?

Life As Its Happening

Listen to "Life As It's Happening" on Spreaker. October 6, 2021 Working on the future. As much as I talk about living in the present, my wife on the other hand is a very heavy duty planner of the future. At 8am she’s already laid out the ground work for what we’re going to be doing late tomorrow. This is a very difficult place for me to be in. I live here. In the now. Not tomorrow at 2pm. Don’t get me wrong! I totally respect her walk and way. She wants to be prepared for the project if something goes wrong. But! All week, it was supposed to rain. She prepared her path expecting to be set free in several torrential downpours. Not one drop has fallen in three days. She’s wasted a lot of energy on writing a story that didn’t take place. When in reality we should be living life as its taking place. Being a silent watcher I take note of the amazing amount of stress others put themselves through because they think everything’s falling apart or will soon crumble into itty bitty pieces. The ability to fear is based on choice. Getting that machine under control requires awareness. Being mindful of what’s happening right here right now. If it’s not going great at work then fix it. If you sit around the office moping over an event that’s hours away it’s going to mentally and physically beat you to pulp. Only to realize nothing happened in the end. Working on your future starts with staying right here in the present.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 265

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 265" on Spreaker. October 5, 2021 Four months ago I sat in the forest writing about the first tropical storm of the season. Miss Claudette was pouring sips of water into the several layers of what makes this collection of trees possible. I caught a solo doe in between some of those layers. She was gnawing on leaves from a fallen branch. Nature doesn’t seem to be bothered by the atmosphere. Maybe because all the other living things don’t walk into a grocery store to purchase water in a bottle. Their source of food isn’t cut up and wrapped for better freshness. The animal kingdom. Oh how it’s come to rely on the human’s mess or lack of consumption. Starting first with the dog. They beg because started it! We can’t let table scraps go to waste. I believe this tropical storm is washing our human scent off everything that’s been touched. The animals know how to make something out of nothing. Then again, that’s a judgement. Just because I don’t see a box of candy nearby doesn’t mean what the momma doe is eating isn’t just as sweet. The elegance of the dance. Watching nature teaches the human ego to humble up.

Unplugged and Totally Uncut October 4th

Today Monday October 4th on Unplugged and Totally Uncut!!! In the next 20 years, consumers of higher education will determine what higher education will be, and every institution will have to change. Everyone will have the same kind of choice and just-in-time opportunities to take courses from a broader range of providers as we have in music, film, and newspapers. Research universities and residential colleges will be more aligned with work and offer new types of credentials. Community colleges and regional universities will be disrupted, providing low-cost, anytime/anywhere courses. The book is The Great Upheaval from Arthur Levine. Mind Your Own Business

Listen to "Stream Thinking Mind Your Own Business" on Spreaker. October 4, 2021 Stream thinking! Writing what you feel right now. Ten minutes without judgement or editing. Free form thinking. See who you really are versus the sculpted character put on daily display. My entire childhood my mother endlessly told her five children to mind their own business. To do whatever it takes to keep our noses away from other people’s situations. Try doing that today! Everybody wants to get into your business. They act as if it belongs to them. If the information isn’t shared? You’ve been there! People begin to make up your story. We’re all guilty of getting into other people’s business. Especially on social media. Every post you put up is nothing more than you wanting to get into other people’s business. Advertisers love this! It’s because we are the new age generation of influencers. The drama we provide on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok feed the need to know. We’re addicted to sharing our business and getting into other people’s business. Gene Simmons says it best, “If you want it to be bigger than life you have to make it bigger than life. Or nobody’s coming to your performance.”

Unplugged and Totally Uncut October 1st

Today! Friday October 1st on Unplugged and Totally Uncut! On April 14, 1865, after nearly a year of conspiring, John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln as the president watched a production of Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre. Lincoln died the next morning. Twelve days later, Booth himself was fatally shot by a Union soldier after an extensive manhunt. The basic outline of this story is well known even to schoolchildren; what has been obscured is Booth's motivation for the act, which remains widely misunderstood nearly 160 years after the shot from his pocket pistol echoed through the crowded theater. John Rhodehamel posted at 11am https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46773936 Ryan Jay reviews Venom 2 Let There Be Carnage. He says it's far better than the original but still lacks the comedic edge of Ryan Reynolds in Dead Pool. It's still a great movie to see on the theater screen. When you see a title like Diana Musical what do you think? Diana Ross? Nope this feature on Netflix is all about Princess Diana and its a musical! The music written by Bon Jovi's keyboardist. A must see for fans of musicals and be prepared for the Rock edge. And finally what's up with this film called The Guilty? Ryan Jay reviewed it and says the Netflix feature is one you can miss. Its adapted from a 2018 Danish crime thriller. 1pm post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46774582 Actor and singer-songwriter Alicia Witt has been acting since the age of 7, when she made her film debut in David Lynch's sci fi classic Dune. She was most recently seen in I Care A Lot on Netflix, starring Rosamund Pike and Dianne Wiest, and leading the cast of the December release Modern Persuasion. 4pm post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46774141 Then we're Playing it Forward with Hollywood bad guy Robert Davi who stars in the new heist/love story movie I Love us. 7pm post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46774283 And finally on Arroe Unplugged when being uncertain becomes your new normal numbness. 10pm post https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46774283

Theater Of The Mind

Listen to "Theater Of The Mind" on Spreaker. October 1, 2021 A blank page isn’t a writing voice. Ultimately the ink must stain whatever message is glued to the universe. To pry it free might offer an innocent crumbling. To sit and wait for the thought to dance softly with the page could take too much of what little time is left. Because it’s October, the sun isn’t too quick to rise across the eastern horizon. It plays games with millions who are affected by a lack of light. Research shows it causes a shortage of serotonin. Which can cause a feeling of depression. The way I deal with it is with artificial lighting. My entire space is completely lit up. In my writing place there are three lamps on me. In the recording studio there’s lighting from every angle. Only to realize two of the greatest features on this everyday creative walk are the windows overlooking the beautiful forest. It’s very dark outside the windows. Oh boy. It would seem so simple to put shades and or curtains up. That’s like walking up to a comedian and saying, “Tell me a joke.” Creative minds don’t enjoy the feeling of being trapped. A blank page isn’t a writing voice. Ultimately the ink must stain whatever message is glued to the universe. There’s a huge chance you go through these same mindsets this time every year. Surrounding yourself with light is a huge lift. You can’t lay in bed until the sun elects to get up! Learning to hear the inner core of your creative process will help you find peace of mind. I’m not going to light up the forest at 5am. I did take note of something while watching television news. Lighting from beneath the talent on the tube. Giving off the sense of there being light. It’s a work in progress. Getting Fall under control.

Aware Of Your Suckness

Listen to "Creating A Connection With Accomplishment" on Spreaker. September 29, 2021 Putting fuel into the writing instrument. Undeveloped thoughts. A willingness to be activated. The words seem to be on a boat held up in a tiny port. Funny how life tends to locate blockages. To stand at the base and do nothing but stare into the several levels of emptiness. This is a pretty heavy adventure this new day. I’m having a difficult time writing! The third sentence says it all. A willingness to be activated. When you can’t write. Write about having a difficult time writing. When you can’t sing or act then sing and act. It’s ok to accept that you suck! Sucking at something is brilliant growth. Your awareness knows of the struggle and through the attempts made by being willing there is progress. Locate your creative strength. Taking note of the present and not where your feet were once planted. To check in means to clear your mind. What must be done? Putting fuel into the writing instrument. Willingness. To empower the moment. Letting go of the weight we carry. Today I can’t write. So I wrote about the difficulties of writing.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 264

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 264" on Spreaker. September 28, 2021 Waking up with the forest. The hawks. Two are in vision. A calling inside these trees to wake up in peace. I’m amazed by the sounds the hawks are making. They want to be heard far ahead of all others things. In Native American Spirituality, when the hawk makes itself known to your presence the message is clear. You’re caught up in too much. Stay alert and become more focused. Pay close attention to your surroundings. Quit trying to change others. Over the past nineteen months our evolution has been that of unexpected change. We’ve all been newly reshaped. For many the goals and or missions have been to remain in strength. The hawk’s message is a huge reminder of what happens when the walls of the lockdown fell. Suddenly we got busy again. I took on new jobs while holding onto the others. Only to find myself yearning for that open space caused by the pandemic. And I often wonder if that’s not the reason why so many aren’t returning to their jobs and or are quitting. The change experienced has rebuilt the drive and desire to succeed. Because I’m a daily writer I’m able to go back and read of the struggles to put the new puzzle together. In doing so I realized how time was no longer a luxury but rather a forced entry. In the glory of being freed from the lockdown and with businesses reopening we chose to run toward the life we had before March 2020. Too big of a bite. My challenge to you is simple. Pay close attention to the animals near you. Not all of them but the one’s that seem to stick out the most. Google their spiritual connection. You’ll be amazed at how they are the stronger teacher in an age when we are the student.

Stream Thinking: Not A Fan Of Text Messages

Listen to "Stream Thinking Not A Fan Of Text Messages" on Spreaker. September 27, 2021 I’m a man of many faults and weaknesses. One of them being seriously disconnected from texting. I don’t enjoy reading or writing a text message. Especially if the conversation is excessively long or the subject involves several talk bubbles. I think it’s based on a lack of inflection. I see words but I’m not hearing them. My creative mind starts to make up the noise. If something doesn’t feel right I’m always going to react in ways the original author didn’t mean. It’s like my daily writing! Only I hear the intended message. A future reader might think of me as being a depressed angry aging man with every ambition to seize control of all things lonely. That’s so far from the truth. If this is how I feel about my personal writing adventures, then the goal should be to have physical conversations and not written words of assumption.

You Can't Turn It Off

Listen to "You Can't Turn It Off" on Spreaker. September 24, 2021 I heard a teacher this morning say these words, “You can’t turn it off.” I watched the video over and over. The entire message was based on how leaders of lessons taught are expected to be on 24/7. The part that hit me the hardest in the heart was when she explained how taking home school work kept her away family. She wasn’t in control of raising her children. You can’t turn it off. This is very close to me because of my wife’s connections to education and I lived this teacher lifestyle with her. Saying thank you to class room leaders isn’t enough. Teachers need helping hands physically and mentally. Not parents endlessly pointing fingers while throwing out false accusations. You can’t turn it off. When will the circle get tighter? The community raises the child but it’s only the teacher showing up. You can’t turn it off. You know what’s sad? The stories you aren’t hearing? Teacher’s who’ve located the off button. The numbers are rocking schools. Teachers aren’t the only ones. Employees in every business have located the same off button. I see it every day! People are hired. They take one good look at the expectation then walk away. We’re facing a mountain in education. How close are we to local decision maker’s agreeing to hire anyone willing to come to class and read from a book? You can’t turn it off. When we do the future is handed something much bigger than the mountain before us.

But What Is The Connection

Listen to "But What Is The Connection" on Spreaker. September 23, 2021 As a writer things move through us differently. Not everybody will admit to that. Mostly because writer’s tend to be selfish with their secrets of ability. No wonder so many choose not to write! Inspiration and influence on a page doesn’t have to come from just reading. Non-writers need to hear from those who do write. I’m presently on the corner of walk and don’t walk. The morning writer cannot be compared to the nighttime writer. Opposites! I think it’s because the morning writer is peacefully setting up the new day mindset. Whereas the nighttime writer is digging into the theory of spirits walking toward us. Basically meaning he’s not afraid to look into the eyes of the beast. Listen, we all have dark sides and know of our personal mood makers. Opposing the beast at five in the morning is a well-disciplined walk that’s been to hell and back before seven in the morning. While the nighttime writer finds strength in taking swipes at understanding the core of the source, the morning mission is to remain as far away as possible. I always tried to keep from writing in my published novels at night. I knew I’d kill off a character. Taking those writing chances without fearing the consequences. Knowing who your writing self is requires note taking. Creative minds walk away from storytelling because of a switch in moods. Then complain about how difficult it is to be a writer. It’s not if you know the multiple levels of writers that are begging to get out of you. Get to know your deeper source. Stand up to the beast when you feel most comfortable. It’s when you don’t let your creative energy have a place out here that the monster finds difficult to digest. Julia Cameron from the Artist Way says it best, “Your creative self is an inner child. Treat it as such. Listen to it. Create with it. Calm it. And say no to it when need be.”

Identifying That Place

Listen to "Identifying That Place" on Spreaker. September 22, 2021 I tend to write a lot at night. Very late at night. It looks more like scribbles than physical words. As of late the writing-self-challenge has been to locate that place. We all have a place. You know that place! When the sun starts to set mentally things about us begin to change and something from a different place begins to consume our presence. That place. As a writer I’m trying to identify it. To locate the trail. To understand the transitions. To document the reshaping of emotions. Many things are written about but the goal is to know the entire story. Creative people are guided by instinct, inner feelings, intuition and or what some easily write off as those voices. They have to come from somewhere! You know! That place! I think it’s easier to access at night because as long as there’s sunlight the strength of our guard is always up. Being mindful is one thing. Living mindful is another. It means knowing the right way to the source and it requires the awareness of being. Art moving forward is breathing. I use meditation to get to that place. It’s only been recently that the writer is wanting to paint the experience into physical form. Teaching yourself growth. Hearing the voice while recognizing its presence in your present.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 263

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 263" on Spreaker. September 21, 2021 A newborn fawn greeted me in the forest this morning. Its eyes blessed with the most astounding emotion. Filled with the beauty of all things that shall become. I quickly looked around the forest for the mother. To my right maybe twenty five feet. She stood there waving her tall white tail as if to be asking, “Do you love my baby?” This forest. Wow. We met for the first time in November of 1992. I didn’t realize the power it would have in my heart growing forward. This gift today is part of the empowerment of the universe moving through you. Or as I put on social media: God in forward motion. My daily writing in this forest didn’t begin in 1992 but rather two years later. It’s all been documented! The replenishing of seventeen hundred trees to getting married in the forest to sitting down with my small fuzzy children while they took their final breath. My wow is a very tiny forest and after twenty nine years of connection I still can’t explain the calling. I do want to thank the baby fawn for such an amazing reminder of how life is about being in the present with a firm grip on sharing it with future travelers. So I ask, where is your wow? That place of connection, rebirth and understanding. Is it far into the mountains or sitting next to the waves stretching on shores? Where is your wow? Is it while writing, reading or simply staring at a wall with no photographs? Locating your wow. When you identify as such know in your heart it’ll always protect you.

Stream Thinking: Feed The Solution

Listen to "Stream Thinking Feed The Solution" on Spreaker. September 20, 2021 How do we know this isn’t a set up that’s being filmed? With all the reality shows on television and the billion Tik Tok shots spreading across the planet, when do we know this moment is about to become someone else’s laughter? I’m not convinced that people act awkward because of conditions but rather ambitions to gain access to another person’s shock and reaction. I face weird situations all the time. I don’t showcase any type of emotion. My goal is to always reach for a solution first. A father that runs up to me in customer service urgently needing attention because his daughter has urinated on the floor. I walk to the scene. Take note of the situation on the floor. The only thing abnormal is the puddle on the floor. The child didn’t look wet nor was there a diaper bag in the basket or in their arms. Hmmm. The mission was to clean it up. Solutions not reactions. I learned how to perfect this in martial arts. To clear the mind body and soul of anything that would stand in the way of making the best decision. The man who shouts at the top of his lungs about how he’s been offended and he’s a lawyer and needs names right now. Solutions not reactions. The guests that run into the store two minutes before closing. The outfits they wear are outrageously made for a Tik Tok video. Dogs labeled working that make messes on the floor. I don’t question nor do I get angry. The solution provides the best path to bring the situation to a peace filled conclusion. I do wonder though. Where are the cameras?

Discovery Not Recovery

Listen to "Discovery Not Recovery" on Spreaker. September 16, 2021 So many thoughts. Too many attempts. The value of the moment is always based on being aware of all things moving. I heard a quote from the new movie Dear Evan Hansen, “Soon this will be a moment from a very long long time ago.” What an amazing point of view. It touches several sides of your personal journey. There are multiple challenges and changes that take us to our knees and in time it’ll require distance to locate what still remains. Holding onto things for long periods of time is who we are. Regret and defeat have a way of weighing us down. Not just in the moment it was given life but in the decades that follow. The daily goal is to bask in a modern ray of life. Let new life grow where a fire has destroyed. I keep a de-frag journal. Not just taking notes but holding yourself accountable for the events of the present moment not yesterday or a year ago. It’s the art of letting go. Setting free. Lock your energy on being focused on discovery not recovery.

Filling Our Emptiness

Listen to "Filling Our Emptiness" on Spreaker. September 15, 2021 I’m a people watcher. Partly because of my radio background. Mainly because of the writer inside. I take note of the infamous creatures of habit. I’m seeing a lot of individuals dealing with trying to fill up their emptiness. It’s very evident. Being played out right there in front of us every day. Is there such a thing as being addicted to filling what we’ve labeled emptiness? Your heart, your house, your relationships with family and friends. Research shows that the attempt to escape emptiness is what causes addiction. So the focus isn’t on the attraction or self prescribed healing but rather the source of emptiness. One study shows that activating curiosity and compassion are a great start for filling what feels empty. Learning new things. Challenging yourself to extend your imagination. Then showing those around you by way of being compassionate. The key word is activation. We can talk about curiosity and compassion all day but it requires daily activation. Making the move means creating flow. Let’s look deeper into this. What happens when curiosity becomes your perseverance? It’s the only thing you do. I live by way of windows. My Google calendar is flooded with commitment. What isn’t filled is a window of time that can become an event or reason to sit in front of a wall and stare at a painting. My emptiness is filled with work. I’ve always been that way. I pick up work because I’m curious about how things are made and or sold. So I apply for a job. I want to know how things work not only on the floor but behind the curtain. How do you fill your emptiness? We’ve all got it. Understanding it is the challenge. Feeding your need leads your feet in directions you may no longer control. Start at the source. Identify the emptiness then activate curiosity and compassion. Keep your path free of other addictions that are caused by the great escape from emptiness.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 262

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 262" on Spreaker. September 14, 2021 The doe are preparing for their early summer birth. Their tummies well rounded and they’re packing together like true family. It’s as if the yearlings and two year old’s are still learning. This week it’s about becoming a mother. The goal is to teach the newborns how to survive as well as hide. It’s as if they’re whispering, “We shall help keep this forest growing forward.” Which brings me to a point of thought; what are you doing in your everyday world to replenish your forest? It doesn’t have to be trees, rocks and the animal kingdom. Your forest could be New York City or a middle school classroom. I asked the question on my Daily Mess podcast, “Are there any more masters in the making?” Not sports heroes. Master’s in the making. Who is investing in tomorrow’s leaders? It has to come from those who are leading today. But to get to that point of direction the next question would be, “What have you mastered?” In martial arts we are trained to believe that nothing can be mastered unless it’s been done 100,000 times. While the doe in the forest were teaching the yearlings the facts of life, the masters of the forest have generations of deer before them to give them the skills to teach the fawn to hide. In the human business world we rely so much on multitasking that there’s physically no room to master your craft. You can be good at something but is it your birth given gift? I just had a conversation with Arthur Levine the author of The Great Upheaval. There’s a huge generation gap between physical students on campus and those learning online. How important is it to get students to give to their forests by way of trusting remote learning as a tool versus something you’re being forced to do? First graders are returning to remote learning. Without focus on education the learning curve suffers not just in their homes but how they’ll handle life when they do reach college age. I study the animals in my forest because it opens my heart to our true presence and weaknesses. Are there any more masters in the making? The craftsmanship of a birth given talent?
