Heather Cumiskey
Listen to "Heather Cumiskey Releases I Love You Like That" on Spreaker.
Set in 1984, 16-year-old Hannah Zandana struggles to fit in at school but catches the eye of her school’s bad boy (and drug dealer). Dealing with a verbally abusive father and an indifferent mother, Hannah is drawn into the alluring but dangerous drug-dealing scene of their wealthy Connecticut town. In I Love You Like That, Hannah must cope with a broken family and the assumed death of her ex-boyfriend Deacon who was shot, seeking comfort in the arms of all the wrong boys. But just outside of town, Deacon awakes in the hospital, realizing he has been entangled in a federal undercover sting operation as their informant. Thrown into the perilous world of Miami drug cartels, Deacon must take down the kingpin in order to win himself a lighter sentence and find his way back to Hannah.
Praise: “In her novel, Cumiskey (I Like You Like This, 2017) crafts not only an excellent portrait of teen life in the mid-’80s, but also a fun homage to cultural touchstones like Miami Vice….A teen tale that avoids easy answers while gliding to a confident landing.” —Kirkus
“This young adult novel was full of surprises. I was not expecting the story to be this intricate and so detailed. The author added tiny details that later turned out to be big plot turning points. The fast pace of the story made it more interesting, while the amazing character development left me pleasantly surprised.” —Readers’ Favorite, 5-star review
