XYLO
Listen to "Paige And Chase From XYLO" on Spreaker.
Brother – sister duo XYLØ is a Southern California indie pop group comprised of producer/drummer/songwriter
Chase Duddy (31) and his younger sister, vocalist/songwriter Paige Duddy (21). Mixing melodic, dark, lustful
vocals with an atmospheric blend of indie rock, electronica, and dirty hip-hop beats, XYLØ has drawn early
comparisons to the likes of Lorde and Lana Del Rey. Their songs have garnered millions of streams as well as
critical praise from Zane Lowe, Complex Magazine, LA Weekly and The Guardian. Although the band was
launched only one year ago, XYLØ has already amassed a global fan base.
Chase and Paige were raised in a musical family; notably, their grandfather Joe Porcaro, a prominent jazz
drummer and studio percussionist. Perhaps growing up in this environment led Chase and Paige to share a
musical bond, although their 10 year age difference initially created a difficult barrier both personally and
musically.
“Since Paige and I are 10 years apart in age we didn't grow up making music together or anything like that,”
says Chase. “Since I was very young when I first discovered my love for music (age 9), I knew that one day I
wanted to make music for a living (Paige wasn't even born yet).”
By the time Paige was old enough to want to work with her older brother, he had already moved to Hollywood
to pursue his career. Chase spent the bulk of his twenties living in and around Hollywood and Los
Angeles' creative Los Feliz neighborhood. During that time, he honed his skills as a touring drummer and studio
producer resulting in TV syncs as well as doing custom music and composing for various campaigns. Over the
years, Paige was occasionally asked to lend her voice to Chase’s projects and their chemistry as a team began to
slowly develop.
At the beginning of 2014, the siblings started working on their first song together. That song, a hazy pop ballad
about love and freedom titled "America,” was licensed for an online PacSun commercial starring Kendall and
Kylie Jenner. The internet lit up in response and the track garnered over 1.6 million listens on soundcloud as
well as reached #1 on hypemachine.
“I wanted to write a dark/sad sounding ballad for us that was atmospheric and started with the piano chords
and a melody idea,” says Chase. “And it turned into this song that was inspired by a personal experience Paige
was going through.”
Paige adds, “My boyfriend was forced to leave the country because of his visa and we didn't know when we
were going to see each other next. It was a really difficult time. So we drew from that and ‘America’ became
about a country forcing two people apart."
Following the viral success of “America,” the band self-released three subsequent singles – “Between The Devil
and The Deep Blue Sea,” “After life,” and “L.A. Love Song” - with each one garnering millions of listens and
contributing to the buzz around the band. At the end of 2015, XYLØ finally decided to sign a major label deal
with Sony’s Disruptor Records.
