Deborah Joy Winans
Listen to "Deborah Joy Winans From Greenleaf On OWN" on Spreaker.
Deborah Joy Winans is a member of the legendary, Grammy award-winning Winans family, known as the first family of Gospel music. Despite her family’s musical legacy, Deborah Joy’s first passion was acting, and she only started singing when she was asked to portray her real-life aunt Cece Winans on stage in the musical “Born for This” in 2016. She also played her Aunt Cece in the Whitney Houston bio film Whitney, which was nominated for multiple awards. Now, Deborah Joy plays Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee on the popular series Greenleaf – which returns for its fifth and final season Tuesday nights on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Greenleaf is from the award-winning director/producer Craig White (Lost, Six Feet Under) and executive produced by none other than Oprah Winfrey. The series follows the corrupt world of the Greenleaf family and their Memphis church. When scandalous secrets are revealed, greed, adultery, and sibling rivalry threaten to tear apart the faith that holds the family together. Greenleaf won the 2020 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama Series and topped cable as the No. 1 original scripted series for African American women and total viewers.
Deborah Joy also lent her voice to the Grammy Award-winning Greenleaf soundtrack and the single “The Master’s Calling,” which broke the Top 20 on the Billboard Gospel chart. She was also featured alongside Grammy Award-winning artist Patti LaBelle on the lead single “Changed” for the Greenleaf Season 3 soundtrack.
