Deirdra Fenton
Listen to "Deirdra Fenton From One Night Joshua vs Ruiz" on Spreaker.
On June 1, 2019, boxing fans witnessed one of the most shocking upsets the sport has ever seen when then-undefeated heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua suffered a seventh-round TKO from Andy Ruiz Jr. in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. Now, a new documentary series One Night: Joshua vs. Ruiz tells the story of the historic “real-life Rocky” moment that saw Ruiz become the first-ever Mexican-American heavyweight champion and how it almost never happened. The events leading up to the unforgettable evening and its aftermath will be discussed by those who lived it, including Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr; the last two fighters involved in a shocking upset of this magnitude, Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas; boxing movie icons Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren; and some of the biggest names in the sport including Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard and Gerry Cooney.
One Night: Joshua vs. Ruiz was directed by Emmy-winning sports documentary filmmaker Deirdre Fenton. Deirdre, new director of original programming at DAZN, produced the highly acclaimed and Academy Award-winning documentary O.J.: Made in America, and more than 50 installments of ESPN’s wildly popular 30 for 30 film series.
