Reaching For The Ocean
Listen to "Reaching For The Ocean" on Spreaker.

I love being a daily writer. I get to put anything on paper without feeling the pressure of being judged until the thoughts are set free. Kids aren’t the only ones saying the darndest things. If we took more time to listen to those around us we’d be totally entertained and inspired. I laugh incredibly loud when standing inside circles of free form thinkers who aren’t afraid of failing with their words. It reminds me of that moment on the radio show when every break performed was the worst. I couldn’t put anything together without tripping. Then I started making fun of myself live on the radio. To help invite even more peace is when listeners would mention how much they enjoyed my flubs because it made me one of them. On this podcast episode the focus is on giving yourself permission to say the darndest things. Being a free form stream thinking poet that happens to write paragraphs of new thoughts and ideas, there are times when what I say flies so far over people’s heads that it makes me look like an idiot rather than a survivor. My teacher wife of 28 incredible years always tells me, “If you have to explain your thoughts then it wasn’t a good one.” I keep doing it. Because I love trying to explain it. A good example was what fell from the nib of the writing instrument this morning. Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. What? I know! Way the heck out there! Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. Here’s how I invite you to look deeper into the presence of the sentence. Water doesn’t become stale when set free to reach the sands of distant oceans. Too often we find the events of the moment to be the same as yesterday, the day before that and the month before that. The Covid-19 quarantine introduced us to the slowing down of personal growth and goals. The idea of getting back to 2019 Normal is nothing more than a flashback. Rather than push ourselves deeper into a year of unheard of change and challenge, the decision for many has been to sit here with our palms open. To be given something for just sitting here. Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. Becoming stale water. Children aren’t being held accountable for being lesser than what they once were. They aren’t getting 100% of their assignments in. Because it’s the new acceptable. I get it! Parents are exhausted. They weren’t designed with teacher patience and leadership skills that reach through a child’s desire and decision to not want to learn. I’m facing the same situation with my adult students who are physically in class with me! Very few people want to ignite a new age of personal growth and goals. Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. Sure, things are slowly reopening around the world. But nothing like a full river of potential success. The new acceptable is allowing ourselves to set things aside. I’m stressed. I’ve got anxiety. I’m not feeling it. I’ll have newer excuses tomorrow. We have a trickle in the stream that’s being blocked by dams created by beavers. The water is still going to get stale. There needs to be flow. We’ve got to stop being bystanders on the river’s edge. Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. Gain your access! Get back into that head and heart. Ok so your old job isn’t what it used to be or it’s still in lockdown mode. Locate the strength to put yourself in a new direction. Yes, you’ll probably make less money. I was in an interview yesterday. Totally different career. The big guy boss looked at me and said, “I really want to bring you onto my team. How much are you looking to make.” I did one of those prayers with your eyes wide open and let God move through me. My answer is a why people say the darndest thing moments. I replied, “We are in Covid-19. Your future customers will be no different than me. They’ll be searching for a job or making less money because the old job no longer exists. I want to be on equal grounds with them because I know through building new relationships the greater payoff isn’t today but in the years ahead.” Gaining access to an over active imagination addicted to keeping the paths locked on forward emotion. Take the step. If it feels like you’ve fallen off a cliff. Remember what happens in dreams. You wake up before you hit the ground. Trust your gut. Take the step.
