A drummer who was at the epicenter of the Seattle music scene in the early 90s, Patty Schemel was an integral member of Hole (suggested to frontwoman Courtney Love by her husband, Kurt Cobain, an avid fan of Schemel's drumming), and helped to create the seminal album Live Through This. Hit So Hard chronicles the coming of age of a musician and an addict, on and off the road, in a band plagued by tragedy during the last great era of rock 'n' roll excess. While never losing her sense of humor, Schemel-one of the first female drummers to make it big in the music world, as well as one of the first women in rock to come out publicly as gay (in the pages of Rolling Stone, no less!)-intimately documents the events surrounding her dramatic descent from festival headliner into a life of homelessness and crime on the streets of Los Angeles, and her difficult but rewarding path to sobriety after more than twenty serious attempts to get clean. Hit So Hard is a first-hand account of everything that happened behind the curtain. It sheds light on Kurt Cobain's final, fateful drug intervention; the backstage antics of Hole while they defied expectation following the sudden deaths of Cobain and bassist Kristen Pfaff and toured in support of Live Through This; Schemel's writing of, and subsequent dramatic exit from, the recording of the band's celebrated third album, Celebrity Skin; and countless encounters with some of rock 'n' roll's biggest names of the early 90s. But at its core, Hit So Hard is a survival story, told in detail by a woman who literally saw and experienced it all. Whether it was coming out in small town Washington state in the 80s, weathering all variety of sexism as one of the only famous female drummers of her time, or battling the intense drug addiction that threatened to take everything she had-including her life-many times, Schemel still managed to come out the other side. REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon will crank up the holiday spirit this year with the definitive version of its yuletide classic, Not So Silent Night: Christmas with REO Speedwagon. It features remastered sound, four bonus tracks and a newly recorded version of the group’s original Christmas song, “I Believe In Santa Claus.” Not So Silent Night: Christmas with REO Speedwagon will be available on digital formats today (October 20), CD (November 3), and on LP (December 1). The collection spotlights the group’s distinctive versions of Christmas favorites like “Silent Night,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “Deck The Halls” and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” It also features several songs that did not appear on the original 2009 release, including “We Three Kings,” which is now available on CD and digital versions. The CD and digital versions also include three songs released as bonus tracks on the 2010 version of the album: “Sleigh Ride,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “I Believe In Santa Claus,” which was written by the band’s frontman Kevin Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall. The group recently returned to the studio to record a new version of “I Believe In Santa Claus.” This new 2017 version is available as part of the digital version of album, and is also available as a free download with the purchase of CD or LPs formats. Cronin says: “Our goal with this new version of ‘the Santa song’ was to create a true REO Speedwagon track, which also happens to be a Christmas carol, and a holiday love letter to our families, and yours.” Formed in 1967, signed in 1971, and fronted by Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. Platinum albums and radio staples soon followed, setting the stage for the release of the band’s explosive Hi Infidelity in 1980, which contained the massive hit singles “Keep On Loving You,” and “Take It On the Run.” That landmark album spent 15 weeks in the No. 1 slot and has since earned the RIAA’s coveted 10X Diamond Award for surpassing sales of 10 million units in the United States. Today, REO Speedwagon has sold 40 million albums around the globe, and Cronin and bandmates Hall, Neal Doughty (keyboards), Dave Amato (guitar), and Bryan Hitt (drums) are still electrifying audiences worldwide in concert.

The Path Of Victory

A total disconnection from the writer, the student and the reader. By developing this discipline you're able to stop judging and start holding onto valuable energy that becomes greater knowledge. On Easter Sunday 2016 this tiny phrase made it's way from the edge of my heart straight through the tip of the nib on the fountain pen, "Wisdom discovered along side but not upon the path." Over a year later my heart ignited. Each and everyone of us are governed by the people that make up our circle. From bosses to family members the majority of our steps are commanded by other people's needs, wants and desires. We choose to use the wisdom alongside the path rather than utilize the mission that you were brought to this rock to achieve. Why are so many people walking around like unhappy zombies? Because the wisdom on their path isn't being used. Is it because most want others to make decisions for them? We've become a co-dependent generation of well wishers and complainers. Reactivate the mission by taking notes. Become aware of where your truer wisdom is located. It's not alongside the path. Its on your path. Find your victory.
