No matter what he was going through, he could always turn to music for comfort. Will went on to attend college in Santa Barbara and stayed in town after graduation to pursue music. Stephanie Rhules

Listen to "Stephanie Rhules Host Of The Modern Rhules Podcast" on Spreaker. In Modern Ruhles, NBC News correspondent and MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle brings her characteristic curiosity, empathy and insight to some of today's thorniest, most complex conversations. Whether it's a discussion about privilege, political correctness, the limitations of feminism or the possibilities for a non-toxic masculinity, Stephanie Ruhle comes to the table with intelligence, unflinching honesty, and a genuine willingness to listen, probe and reflect. In Modern Ruhles, these topics aren't always comfortable, but they are always compelling. In a culture increasingly prone to siloed, separated cultural realities-a distance that most of today's media only reinforces-Modern Ruhles shows it's not only possible to have a good faith conversation with people you may not agree with, but somewhere along the way, you might just change your mind. In each episode, host Stephanie Ruhle invites a small handful of carefully chosen guests to join her in a candid, authentic conversation. She approaches each of them one on one, and it's the unguarded moments they share that make this show unique. Juxtaposing a female CEO who isn't always comfortable calling herself a feminist with a smart, self-aware male comedian who's questioning just what masculinity means in the post-#metoo moment makes for some fascinating listening. Add to that an emotional moment between Stephanie and her mother, and this series becomes something unexpected, thoughtful, and at times, even poignant.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 179

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 179" on Spreaker. We've all got that one thing in common, Asking questions that never come with answers. Does that give us permission to ask another question except this time around we get to make up the answer? It's almost like living in our past. We really aren't. The physical act of hanging out with memories is our natural way of rewriting the story that best fits where we are today. I'm blessed with the opportunity to share my broadcast experiences with future leaders just getting started. Most are so terrified of why they made the choice to step into the school. They're there. Their voices shine with quivers. Their hearts are open to learn. How can they instantly find success in a world of communication completely pummeled by massive amounts of digit space for anyone wanting or willing to share words. In the middle of my lessons last night a voice came from out of nowhere, "Where are you taking us?" Like coming up to a rattlesnake my eyes went directly to the source of energy that made it a point to be heard. Where are you taking us? Interestingly enough the answer delivered will change each time we meet over the next 7 weeks. It's who we are! When we can't locate the answer to the questions we're asking we give our self permission to ask a different question. I answered her question. The moment it came into my place of thinking it actually took the wind from my lungs. I sat down. I looked at her and every student present, "That's a very fair question. Where am I taking you. We're going where you allow yourself to grow. Each of you are on separate journeys. None of you will get the same lesson. Just know that when you start asking the questions that someone who has lived the life can help bring light to what's quickly becoming weight. Let your artist self have a voice. It deserves it. Many of you waited years to be in this moment of becoming a broadcaster. I can't tell you why the time was extremely lengthened. Just know that you are here. Don't ruin it. Art requires time. Paint doesn't instantly dry. That's where we are going."

Deepfall

Listen to "Deepfall Releases Their Album Broken" on Spreaker. DEEPFALL conjures an enveloping storm of carefully crafted hard rock that strikes the soul with stinging honesty. Cutting to the bone with soaring instrumental passages, spirited choruses, and precisely placed breakdowns, the band thrives in the expanse of rock ’n’ roll’s vast sub-genres. Masterfully capturing thematic darkness, the band leaves a sonic trail of scorched post-apocalyptic earth behind its musical machine, blazing a path through the heaviness of life with an equally heavy response. Situated in Greenville, Michigan, the group’s current lineup, which began to take shape in 2015, is comprised of Rich Hopkins (vocals/guitar), James Sullivan (drums), Tim King (keyboards), Anthony Schnobel (lead guitar), and Taylor Brandt (bass). In a short time, DEEPFALL has carved its place in the American rock scene with broad, muscular soundscapes forged in the studio and resurrected onstage. Behind the veil of these ferocious soundscapes, DEEPFALL emerges as an outfit of determined musicians with a deep love for their craft and a hope to connect with listeners through engaging story-driven rock. DEEPFALL has supported national acts such as Hinder, SOiL, Tantric, Smile Empty Soul, Saving Abel, The Iron Maidens, Texas Hippie Coalition, and Wayland, while having performed at venues such as The Intersection, The Stache, and The Music Factory. The band continues to play regionally, write new music, and keep its collective foot pressed down on the gas pedal towards endless possibility.

Ryan Jay Reviews

Listen to "Ryan Jay Reviews A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood And Frozen 2" on Spreaker. The time has arrived not once but twice. Two movies the world has impatiently waited for. I mean when you first hear about a film it should be ready to go up on the screen right? Frozen 2 comes with incredible laughs, brand new music and a story that does something Disney's never done before and Ryan is quick to pick up on it. The other film is Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers. Is it a bio pic? Who are the other people? Wait wait don't judge the book by it's cover. Ryan lets you inside with a view that will keep you up close and filled with purpose.

Numbers

Listen to "Numbers" on Spreaker. More times than many I keep bumping into people that are totally freaked out about how fast 2019 has put itself on the map. Within three blinks of a single eye we're going to be face to face with 2025 with absolutely no way of knowing how any of it gained access to the highway of life without being pulled over by well skilled patrolman and their sporty cars. I thoroughly believe my reasons for doing all I can to stay from numbers is 100% connected to the face of a digital clock. We endlessly wake up in the middle of the night and count the number of hours or minutes we have left before life picks us up and throws us onto a layer of unexpectedness. I sit down to write in my daily journals at 4:30 every morning. I'm deeply bothered if I show up late. It messes with my numbers! I need to be producing in the studio by 5:30 am! The interviews start at 8:30 and sometimes go until 5:20 pm. I say that because this Tuesday that's when I'm hooking up with Judas Priest. I can never say no to the numbers. On this podcast we enter the war with an open heart only to realize the ticks in clock aren't the only numbers that send our life and style into a total tailspin. When those freaky little figures begin to consume your every thought and decision you've got to have the strength and discipline to pull yourself away the world and locate the blank spot. A wall without pictures. A blank sheet of paper or pull off one of my weirdisms... Put your face 100% up against the bathroom mirror and stare into one eye. It's fuzzy and totally not in tune with normal but the blank spot has a way of hitting the center of your soul before you get back into the numbers race.

Pod-Crashing Episode 34 Can We Talk Business

Listen to "Pod-Crashing Episode 34 Can We Talk Business" on Spreaker. Pod-Crashing Episode 34: Can We Talk Business There’s so many different reasons why people get into podcasting. The love of the laugh, the openness to talk sports, freedom of speech to we’ve got to make some easy money! Yeah? How’s that working for ya? My friend Ron wrote to me the other day physically excited that his podcast had finally started to collect pennies and cents. We’re talking 3 cents. I loved his attitude! Dude! You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to make anything! Look… when I got into podcasting in 2012 I wasn’t in it for the cha and the ching. I was doing nothing but trying to feed my need to perform. Thirty three years of the daily hustle. Then Terrestrial radio saw better ways to lower daily costs. You don’t need a fulltime local on air staff. In the biz we call it Voice Tracking! To the average Joe Blow listener they couldn’t figure out how Ryan Seacrest drives to Charlotte every day to do a show. Once I realized how planners and promoters were utilizing the availability of podcasting to help push the word out about their clients I was hit with a thought, “What if I created a platform that took our terrestrial radio advertisers to an area where they didn’t have to worry about getting their entire life story in a 30 second commercial?” In my head it seemed like a hot ass plan! So I went to the GM. Talked to sales executives. Only to hear, “What are you doing again?” I’ll never forget the GM’s response, “I like what you’re saying but I can’t picture how it’s going to work. Keep working on it.” As production director of the cluster of six stations it became my personal mission to locate the vein of gold. I kept digging for bigger interviews. Content that was lifestyle and affective. I tried religious podcasting to motivational thoughts for creative minds. I didn’t say no to anybody that wanted to talk. Until the day Comedian/Actor Rob Riggle began answering my questions on the show. It was all about the Holiday Inn Express. I could ask anything and everything pointed back to the hotel giant. There was no way this conversation was going to be posted. My listeners didn’t need to hear a 7 minute commercial. That’s when it hit me. Every person I talk with is selling something. I didn’t let it get me down. I studied the path. It’s all about endorsements! As host it became a game to sell their product without listeners calling the episodes an info-mericial. Practice! More practice! Make the mistakes so we can try new things! Eva the promoter and I became extremely good friends because the guests she was bringing to my platform now one million strong were huge. I loved podcasting! It was time to take the plan back to the station GM. Plan? What plan? If you want famous people listeners go to TMZ or Entertainment Tonight. If you want religion you hook up with a church. There was no product. I knew that Eva was making money off her clients. I was trying to create money by not cutting off my foot. Eva was a solid source of content and fame. If I charged her for my digital time and space the race would dry up like a California desert. I knew in my heart somebody was making money. I just knew it wasn’t me nor the radio station. What kept me in the distance was the business world’s lack of knowledge about podcasting. It didn’t become a thorn in radio’s side until 2018. That’s when the top dog companies began to invite podcasters to appear on their digital platforms for free. There’s that word again. Free. I’ve been a Broadcast instructor since 1988. Not a single class went by that didn’t hear my Free Radio People speech. Radio people are passionate about their performance. So passionate that 90 percent of us left our homelands to chase down the next big thing. We’d go from state to state, fired here. Fired there. Screamed at by listeners, sales people and whoever else needed to vent in the moment. I was convinced in 1988 that one day Radio people would be doing it for free. Podcasting has given extremely creative minds the opportunity to play radio exactly what their hearts want to design. We already know about sacrifice! What’s one more tiny little podcast really gonna cost? Can we talk business? Unless you’re Mike Rowe, Marc Moron or Joe Rogan you might have a fighting chance to collect some change for the candy machine. The real money being made is still connected to the hard working, deeply dedicated and extremely passionate promoters that have set up shop on their sacred grounds and increasingly blessed every day to connect the dots. Then call or send an email to the podcaster wondering when the interview will be posted. We’ve talked about this before. Most podcasters put up one to two shows a week. I’m old school radio. I program every inch of the process. There’s so much structure on how the content is delivered that it might actually straighten the Leaning Tower of Pisa. How do you make money? I drive Michael Greenspan of Greenspan Advertising crazy! 2am text messages that shout “I’ve got it! We can!” We work closely together introducing podcasting to clients. Selling their products without sounding like an info-mercial. Anybody can do it but can you do it being real and without dropping a price point? Practice it every day! What about businesses that want to do their own podcasts? I brought this up to a very famous steakhouse totally ending the conversation after one thought, “It’s cool that you want to produce and performer your own episodes. I’ll be over to the restaurant in an hour to use your kitchen to cook my hotdogs.” So what’s the moral of the story? People are making money with podcasting. Promoters and Ad Agencies working with national brands seeking free appearances on podcasts all over the world. Well what about the talent, the hosts and the creators of the podcast? I had a comedian tell me a couple months back, “Nope not gonna get into podcasting. I’m too late. The time and energy required to barely scratch into an extremely overcrowded arena is time I can make money somewhere else.”

Back Off Jesus Boy

Listen to "Back Off Jesus Boy" on Spreaker. This one's a tough one to write about. Because I'm a daily writer that uses his journals as future tools, I'm blessed with the opportunity to stay within my present place of "Now." Did I lose you? I spent some time yesterday with Dr. Mark Borg whose new book Don't Be A Dick puts a lot a focus on taking note of where you are while knowing where you came from. He loves the idea of journal writers going back into their paragraphs and turning it into lessons that keep yourself and others away from having to evolve around the same circle. On this podcast we go back three years to an area of writing where the spirit of the universe is quite present. It took me a long time to convince myself to make this the subject of today's episode. There's no quicker way to shove listeners away than to bring up God and politics. Then I reached the final page of what was put on paper that morning. The final paragraph moved right in my present place of "Now." After reading it I physically heard in my heart, "Do you really think I put those words on the tip of that writing nib for you to hold onto it? That's being selfish."

Dan Rosensweig

Listen to "Dan Rosensweig From Going From Broke On Crackle" on Spreaker. It’s an epidemic of huge proportions. As a nation, over 44 million Americans collectively owe a whopping $1.5 trillion in federal student loan debt, a number that grows each year and is second only to mortgage debt in America. Upon graduation, those entering the professional world face mounds of bills, a shrinking pool of employment opportunities, a lack of financial skills and a constant, crippling weight of oppression keeping them from reaching for their dreams. Throughout the series, Rosensweig and his co-host Danetha Doe challenge millennials to address everything from savings and spending to taxes, bills, co-loans and more. Ultimately, each of the subjects are given “homework,” tailored next steps meant to be tackled within a specific and timely window. It’s not comfortable, it’s not easy, but it’s necessary if they want financial stability. Throughout each of the 10 half-hours, viewers also get valuable insights and advice from several leading and trusted experts.

Pop-Cycle Sticks

Listen to "Pop-Cycle Sticks" on Spreaker. It was very windy the other day. While walking the dog I mentioned to my wife that I was hearing things usually not associated with these walks. Feeling sort of awkward I asked, "Do you think this high wind is carrying sounds to us from very far places?" Here's what I learned: Sound waves travel faster in the air when it is with the wind. Generally speaking, wind speed is lower near the ground because of the presence of blockages, and so it increases with height (Fig. 1). Therefore, when traveling with the wind, a sound wave farther from the ground travels faster. On this podcast we play with the wind a little more. In October of 2016 I felt wind had its own walk and way of changing the way we see light. Caused in the structure of the moment are places of shade. I don't know about you but dark spots on the walk cause disconnection from the moment. It's like walking into a room lit up in the center but the corners are dark. Uncomfortable! Now lets evolve the subject into human light making. We all carry energy. Some more than others. A business meeting has been called and everyone is sitting around the huge table. There's always two or three places of shade. Minds that don't want to participate or other thought processes that are convinced they don't belong. The structure of the meeting is no different than a table with three good legs and one that was shaped wrong. It's moments like this that bosses roll their eyes and truly never confront Charlie the smart phone addicted junkie or Sally the doodler. In a room that's supposed to be upbeat and moving forward the rays of light aren't equal, which causes streams of awkwardness. Mainly because we are the generation that's learned how to accept bad service and behavior. It's just Charlie being Charlie. Julia Cameron's book The Artist Way At Work opens your thinking process on learning how to deal with the several different layers of creative people around us. We aren't supposed to be the same. The doodler is just as important as the overachiever or the know it all. Embracing each other's weirdness creates the sound solid foundation. When it does get out of hand I like to use a tick called Pop-cycle sticks. Charlie and I have had a conversation. I will no longer mention to him how bad his service is. I'll only say Pop-cycle sticks which will serve as a reminder of him not living up to his side of the agreement. Remove the shaded areas in your life by learning how to walk peace filled.

She began training as a pianist at the age of four, performed internationally, and received two degrees in classical piano as a child. An incredibly theatrical performer, EM trained at drama school and holds an acting degree from American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York. Soon after her move to Los Angeles, she met GRAMMY-nominated producer Bruce Witkin (Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson), and together, they released her solo debut EP, “What I Want To Say To You”, an album born of her personal experience of sexual assault and dedicated to survivors. Jones) and drummer Tyler Hammond (Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst). “REBORN”, feels like a carnival for the senses – now an intimate moment tucked away in an elegant red-light lounge, next an eruption of vitality and sound that energizes and lifts the spirit. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, “REBORN” is EM’s journey through hell, hope and renewal after surviving a brutal rape. The album explores themes of regained strength, sexuality, power and how music ultimately saved her. As a live show, “REBORN” is a full-blown performance, with dancers and breathtaking piano solos. EM’s unique musical style features elements of jazz, classical, rock and pop. Combined with her extraordinary stage presence, she creates a moving and unforgettable experience that touches the soul. The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 178

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 178" on Spreaker. I've always had a difficult relationship with the word "promise." I didn't grow up that way. It was actually one of those situations you're forced to play along with or face bad news. In the mid-1980's I learned the radio station wanted me to stop using the word "promise" on the air. They said new research shows that listeners aren't in favor of hearing the word. The moment someone says "promise" it mentally sends a signal to their human hearts and brains and says, "That's all I need in my life is another broken promise." So I instantly quit saying "promise." Ever since that day the goal is to make sure that it's removed even from my daily speaking. I never wanted to give off a reason to cause tune out. When I hear someone using it in conversation it instantly grabs my attention because it makes me feel like a radio listener. That's all I need is another broken promise. So yesterday I'm having a great conversation with a preacher friend. They always ask "How are you?" I'm not shy to say, "I feel like I'm walking across a desert floor. I just hope God doesn't keep me out here for 40 years." That comment earned me a quick reply, "Where is your Promise Land?" No!!!!!! There's that word!!!! Fire starter conversation. Calmly I wrote, "I don't believe in promises." Then it came back to me, "Without a Promise Land I can't help you." Words have always been completely strange to me. I love how one word can change the way conversations could've gone. On this podcast we dive into other areas of disconnection. One being "interruption." How often do you feel less of a team player and more of an interruption? Working through the storms begins with letting people in on your privatized ways of thinking. The friend had no idea that I had issues with "promise." Having the courage in this run run world to take a few seconds and say, "You're going to think I'm a little weird but..."

David Ace Cannon

Listen to "David Ace Cannon Releases The Song Maggie May Dreams" on Spreaker. Putting to words and music the heart-stirring realization that Daddy’s little girl is growing up is the softer side of David “Ace” Cannon, one-half of the Charlotte, N.C.-based syndicated morning show, The Ace & TJ Show. He may be best known for his fun-loving on-air character, but the radio veteran shows he’s also a real country rocker in the remarkable “Maggie May Dreams” out now via The Orchard on Playroom Records. The song was inspired by Cannon’s cherished memories of singing his baby daughter to sleep with the classic Rod Stewart song, and of those bittersweet moments when a father sees glimpses of the woman his baby girl will one day become. “I give your hand to another man, but not before one last dance,” Cannon emotionally sings, imagining the moment before a father-and-daughter wedding dance. “Maggie May Dreams” uses bright guitar strums, flush mandolin riffs and poignant lyrics to seal the unbreakable love between a father and his daughter. The song is co-written by Eddie Z, who also produced the song and performed all of the guitar and mandolin parts. This isn’t Cannon’s first foray into music; he’s been performing with the band Charity Case for nearly 20 years. Charity Case started out as a radio bit, but now solely exists to raise money for Grin Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides all-expenses-paid, five-day experiences at Walt Disney World for children between the ages of 5 and 12 who are terminally ill or chronically disabled and their immediate family. Charity Case has raised over $1.2 million dollars since 2000 while performing with some of the biggest rock bands on the planet. “This song is so personal to me,” Cannon said. “But it expresses a universal theme that any parent can connect with. It’s about those moments of realization that your child is growing up and no longer dependent on you. Your child will build their own life, and while you might not be holding their little hand every step of the way forever, you can still dream of those days.”

Barry Levine And Monique El-Faizy

Listen to "Barry Levine and Monique El Faizy Release All The President's Women" on Spreaker. During his 2016 presidential run, the revelation of the Access Hollywood tape and subsequent allegations of sexual misconduct lodged against Donald Trump looked like they might doom his candidacy. Trump survived, and the first two years of the real estate scion's presidency were marked not by controversy over his behavior around women but by the Mueller investigation. So far, Trump has dodged the #MeToo bullet that has taken down so many once-powerful men. But despite the decades of tabloid fascination with his personal life, the story of Trump's relationship with women has never been fully told. Considering his bully pulpit in the White House, the reckoning is overdue. ALL THE PRESIDENT’S WOMEN: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator (Hachette Books; 10/22/19; $29; ISBN: 9780316492669) offers the most detailed account yet of Trump's history with women, dating back to his childhood and high school days through his rise in real estate, reality TV, and politics. With groundbreaking interviews, behind-the-scenes reporting, and never- before-seen photos, veteran journalists Barry Levine and Monique El-Faizy tell the story of Trump from the point of view of the women in his orbit--wives, mistresses, playmates, and those whom the president has dated, kissed, groped, or lusted after.

Joshua Dela Cruz

Listen to "Joshua Dela Cruz From Nickelodeon's Blues Clues" on Spreaker. In 1996, Nickelodeon premiered the groundbreaking preschool series Blue’s Clues. The show’s unique interactivity—in which viewers help energetic girl puppy Blue identify clues to solve a puzzle—helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. Now, Blue and her crew are back in Nickelodeon’s remake, Blue’s Clues & You!, which features a brand-new live-action host Josh (Joshua Dela Cruz) alongside all-new CG animation and refreshed iconic items from the original series, such as an updated Handy Dandy Notebook. Raised in New Jersey, Dela Cruz recently appeared in Disney’s Broadway production of Aladdin, as well as CBS’ Bull and ABC’s Time After Time. Dela Cruz—who was inspired by the original series to become an actor—can discuss why Blue remains an iconic character in children’s television and what young viewers and their parents can expect from the new show.

I Question Myself

Listen to "I Question Myself" on Spreaker. I'm sure it comes across the number of times that it seems I question God. Not true. I question myself about God. It all stretches back to an incredibly long friendship I had based on one solid argument: My value isn't free. Figure it out. That's what he endlessly pushed toward me. When you take the time to put together the necessary pieces the experience becomes part of your value. This is why in my daily writing and podcasting I'll bring stuff up that might seem like I'm questioning the higher power. No true. I'm questioning myself. If we're put in situations of what feels like defeat instead of running to someone for instant release... Figure it out. That's why I've been a daily writer for 25 plus years. I throw my stuff down on paper and begin doing the math. Learning how to ski in the giant mountains of Montana didn't mean the instructor was going to hold onto my hand down the entire snow covered peaks. in all honesty I think their only job is to make sure we get on and off the chairlifts safely. The rest of the journey is about crashing. We've become a smarter bunch of people thanks to YouTube. The car breaks down, the drier isn't drying, the speaker isn't producing sound... YouTube pretty much says "Figure it out." You watch those videos over and over until the broken becomes fixed. Priceless. Your value just went up. Question not the situation at hand. Question yourself about the situation. Take notes! Play out the circumstances. Build by way of truly understanding the requirement. I blame a lot of our need for instant peace on Walmart. I have two left socks. OK we'll take it back without a receipt. Question your questions. Answer your questions with more questions. Build your foundation by figuring it out.

Trusting The Arrival

Listen to "Trusting The Arrival" on Spreaker. My Dad used to look at his eight children and endlessly ask, "Why can't you be happy with where you are? Why do you spend so much time and energy on things you have no control of or over?' As a spoiled kid that wanted everything I had no clue why he kept planting that seed. It wasn't until I began growing with martial arts and meditation that his determination began to take shape. Why can't we be happy with where we are? In October of 2016 I put into the pages of the giving tree two words that best explained to my wandering heart how to begin a path of looking at situations that didn't feel right or weren't going my way. Trust in the arrival. You are here. Where? Only you can answer that. It required a lot of elements to make it happen. Grow into the moment that became the arrival. A tough way to live because someone's always asking about your five year plan or what are we having for dinner tonight? At 7:56 am on a Friday my present place in the arrival is to put focus on here not there. That's why so many people go to work in bad moods or spend the day complaining because the thought of being happy right here is beyond their goals and resolutions. When I walk with Jazzie the disaster artist dog midway through the day it's a pain to feel how bitterly cold it is already. Then I grip onto the strings of the arrival. Being present with everything from the birds, the colors of the leaves on the trees, the shapeless clouds, the hammering in the distance, cars on other roads. It's Jazz. None of it belongs together and yet it does. Where are you at in your arrival?

Pod-Crashing Episode 33 Staying Independent

Listen to "Pod-Crashing Episode 33 Staying Independent" on Spreaker. Pod-Crashing Episode 33: Staying Independent It’s completely natural to wanna build a big bright and beautiful podcast then market the hell out of it. Wait wait. That last part is the ugly shoe in the picture. To market the podcast? You know, to push your stories and creative spirits onto every possible platform known to mankind. Not just this time but every time. To throw yourself into the center of the kingdom of hashtags and @ symbols. If you have famous people on the episode you visit their pages and those belonging to the products you brought up in the talk. Push! Make those connections with listeners and or clients for the businesses you agreed to help promote. I’m not gonna lie to ya. The hardest part about podcasting is the butt kicking received after you post an episode. Marketing your magic is mind blowing important. Living that life and style doesn’t put a dent in your day. The insurance company would label your vocal vehicle a total wreck. This is why so many podcasters refuse to market or do all they can to get hooked up with a broadcast company or internet radio station to get a solid push. I know from experience how dangerous this decision can be. As my Mom would say, “You’ve gotta watch your P’s and Q’s and please dot every I and cross every T” Never give up ownership. Stay independent. I know people who’re putting their podcast episodes on privately owned servers. Those controlling the visibility have interesting ways of saying, “We’re cheaper than anyone else. Heck let’s just give you the data space free!” Sounds great until you realize the keeper of the keys is collecting tiny chunks of cash from the hits and downloads you’ve generated. Go ahead put on the boxing gloves. We all like a good Rocky Balboa story. Sadly I’ll betcha there’s an itty pitty paragraph somewhere in that handshake that clearly states they make all or part of the money made. Not only that, but there could be another paragraph that removes you as the owner of the podcast. The very second you post it on their server it could belong to them. It’s their digital farmyard and you’ve been invited to ride the horse but not fry up the chicken eggs. Stay independent. It hurts like hell when the digital partner steps from out of nowhere with a sign that reads, “You’re mine exclusively. If you’d like to keep growing together the simple task at hand is to remove everything you have off all other platforms but this one.” Dangerous game. Each of your outlets has its own listener base and 99.9% of them aren’t forking out the email addresses attached. The second you disconnect from those human ears due to a tiny misunderstanding it’s no different than starting all over. It killed me when SoundCloud wiped me off their map. All of that time and energy spent writing, producing, posting then promoting the piss out why they were the hottest thing on the podcast planet. I didn’t even get a kiss goodbye. Then I got hit again with an internet station that I was trying to help bring listeners to by letting them tap into my reach. Blew up in my face. How the eff could this happen to me twice? Stay independent. Play nice with the privately owned server geniuses but watch your back. The bigger and better your podcast gets the more their analytics go up. Make sure you always get your numbers. Look to see them in real time. It’s too easy to cut and paste then correct a little here and a lot there. Building a partnership does have its perks. A bigger company and or appearance looks great to potential advertisers. Those spending the bucks in sponsorships know how many startup podcasts are out here. They want to build a relationship with a product that delivers sale or service to their product. When joining forces know of the expectation. It’s not always about power but rather who making sure that everyone on the team delivers? I spent some time with Sean Morrow of the Who Is podcast. We talked about his mighty team of two. Plus a crew of producers. A ton of research and travel goes into this weekly presentation. Hour long conversations edited down to storytelling soundbites that bring out the historic content. The podcast is about political figures and decision makers. Everybody in business has taken a strange road to get on top. Sean has to be exact. That means his team has to show up. The reason why I say it that way is because of the number of stories I hear from fellow podcasters that trusted their partnerships. Amazing amounts of time went into the startup but the follow through kept hitting mountains and walls. Sean Morrow knows how much time goes into each of his episodes. There are 14 presently finished but he’s releasing them one week at a time. Think about it. 14 shows equals 14 weeks. That a lot of time to keep the pump operating. I can’t imagine what it would do to the shows morale if a new episode was required every day. Because I book 7 to 10 interviews a day and post 5 and more episodes Monday through Friday having a team is a dream. I spoke of it a lot while pulling off four decades of terrestrial radio. But here’s where I’m gonna be honest. Because I’ve had so many twists, spills and stumbles with developing partnerships the awareness button is always on high alert. I don’t deal well with other people’s times on the clock or laziness. I’m a Pitbull on steroids when it comes to staying focused with this project. Too many of my radio dreams were lost because those in control made bad decisions. You should’ve heard me cheer out loud this past week when Joe Rogan was sharing a priceless podcast conversation with comedian Pete Dominick. Rogan clearly spoke with authority when he said, “Stay in control.” That doesn’t mean Joe’s doin it alone. Every so often his producer chimes in. Chelsea Handler’s as well. Both are in control. Sharing the episode making is a brilliant way to move the industry forward but if everybody’s got equal say and play that sounds like a storms on the way. I learned a very valuable lesson a couple of radio jobs back. If you’re ever put in a team work situation. You need three things to find success. A dick, a dork and a deer. So what’s the moral of the story? Watch your back. The moon is always promised but I’ve yet to see the cow jump over it. Hanging out with the idea of joining strings with others always sounds interesting by way of being perked up by something new. Think long term. I mean several hundred episodes and more. The bigger this podcasting thing gets the more you’re going to see broadcasting giants taking huge chances on those that’ve dedicated their blood sweat and tears. Agreements will be made. Hearts will be shattered. Incredible podcasts will then go silent. And all you had to do was keep control.

Leif Garrett

Listen to "Leif Garrett Releases The Book Idol Truth" on Spreaker. Leif Garrett has announced that his memoir, Idol Truth, will be released in July 2019 from Post Hill Press (New York / Nashville). The memoir, to be co-written with well-known author/journalist Chris Epting, promises to be a no-holds-barred look at the former teen idol’s life, crammed with untold personal stories, wild celebrity anecdotes and many rare photos from Garrett’s private collection. In the late 1970s, Leif Garrett came to define the ultimate American teen idol. His posters hung in the bedrooms of millions of teenage girls all over the world. About the new memoir, Garrett says, “I’m writing it now because I think I can finally make sense of what happened to me over the years. I’ve thought about it for a long time, but I just needed the right amount of distance from all these events. It’s not all going to be pretty, but it’s going to be honest.” This will be a book about what it’s like to be transformed into an object of insane desire and adoration. But it’s also a book about a little kid that just wanted a normal family. It’s about the ravages of drug addiction. And celebrity culture. It’s about lost youth, trying to be an artist and also fighting for control of one’s own life. Garrett adds about his co-writer, “I also waited a long time to meet the right person to do this with. I met Chris two years ago and we bonded immediately over growing up in the 70s and more—but especially over music.” Epting offers, “I think Leif’s passion for good music defines him. He’s also very smart, a great storyteller, and a compelling pop culture icon. I’m very excited to be working on this book with Leif.” Anthony Ziccardi, publisher at Post Hill Press added “We are honored and thrilled to be working with Leif and his team. For decades, Leif’s life and music have captivated audiences. We think this book will continue to engage both fans and the general public alike with a fascinating look into the life of a fascinating man.” Idol Truth is available for pre-order now and can be purchased on Amazon HERE or at Barnes & Noble HERE

Step Free Of The Shadow

Listen to "Step Free Of The Shadow" on Spreaker. Two thoughts fell from my daily writing in October of 2016. That's over three years ago. 1. All that is now can be nothing tomorrow. 2. Yesterday has already become shaded by doubt and re-existence. Your memory is already reconstructing it. Choosing to be mindful in the present isn't a light switch. It requires personal growth. Learning how to be present in what is now doesn't scream at you to be perfect with a great haircut, torn tight jeans and you speak a word that is whole and life changing. All that is now can be nothing tomorrow. It was 21 degrees this morning. I didn't have to listen to early risers complaining about how much the atmosphere was biting into their waking moments. You could feel it. Why let it destroy your day? I looked at tomorrows weather. It's gonna warm up! All that is now is nothing tomorrow. Being present doesn't mean beat yourself up. It allows all that "is" to move through you. On the other side of that coin will be tomorrow's memories of how cold it is this early in the season. Yesterday has already become shaded by doubt and re-existence. Your memory is already reconstructing it. The conversations you'll share will make it worse then what it really was. The bad drive that made the car swerve because there was ice on the road. Not just a little patch but it would've sunk the Titanic big! The weather isn't the only thing that does this to us. Relationships with coworkers or friends totally rip your legs from underneath you. The cost of groceries. My wife is very guilty of worry. I ask her peacefully to stop writing a story that doesn't exist. I grasp the idea of always wanting to be prepared but how many times will the sky fall before the physical event moves into place? It's very tough to put yourself in the now because we want to judge it. We want to change it. We want to be bigger than what we are. We want. We want. And if you got what you wanted would you really be happier?

Chef Mandy Lee

Listen to "Chef Mandy Lee Releases The Art Of Escapism Food" on Spreaker. When Mandy Lee moved from New York to Beijing for her husband’s work, she was hit with a soul-killing depression unlike anything she had felt before. Growing increasingly exasperated with the country's choking pollution and infuriating bureaucracy - she began “an unapologetically angry food blog,” Lady and Pups, to keep herself from going mad. Mandy blogged and filled her kitchen with warm spices and sticky sauces because it channeled her focus and helped her cope with the difficult circumstances of her new life. In Mandy’s own words, “This book is written for those who share the same perverse tendency to engage in cooking as a loner spends time with his Xbox....ultimately as a delicious evasion of unpalatable realities. Escapism cooking. It’s not a passion; it’s a drug. I’m not selling you a lifestyle; I’m telling you how I evaded one. If you need to know how to cook a chicken breast with one hand while you hold a baby in the other, sorry, I’m not about solving your problems. But I can show you how I cooked mine. This book is a memoir of recipes and stories that I documented during a desperately unpleasant time of my life, the delicious aftermath of how I cooked my way out of six miserable years in Beijing, my lemons and lemonade.” Inventive, intensely personal, and entirely illustrated with Mandy’s own gorgeous photography, THE ART OF ESCAPISM COOKING is infused with the sublime comfort that only a good meal can provide. Kelli Maroney

Listen to "Kelli Maroney Life As A Hollywood Scream Queen" on Spreaker. Kelli first got her big break in Daytime TV, both as the evil adolescent Kimberly in RYAN'S HOPE and then as vengeful Tina in ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Her film debut as the 'Spirit Bunny' Cindy Carr in FAST TMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH caught a lot of attention, but Kelli achieved her greatest enduring cult popularity with her delightful turn as the endearingly spunky Samantha in the science-fiction end-of-the-world NIGHT OF THE COMET. She's especially memorable as the sweet, killer-robot slayer Alison Parks in the entertaining romp, Cult Classic CHOPPING MALL, Jamie, a strong female survivor in THE ZERO BOYS, as well as many other films. On a more serious note, Kelli delivered a very strong and impressive portrayal of schizophrenic femme fatale Meredith (Merre) Lake in the superior Showtime mystery Noir thriller FACE DOWN. Maroney acted in and co-produced the award-winning festival short SAM AND MIKE. She has made numerous TV guest star appearances. Recently Kelli has been seen as a crazed TV evangelist in HBO's TRUE BLOOD, a tipsy stage mom-from-hell in POP STAR, the brave 'cougar,' Sheriff Wilma in GILA! THE GIANT MONSTER, Psychic Ezmerelda in the web's HELL'S KITTY, and other web productions. Additionally, she appeared in the recent definitive '80s horror documentary. IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS. Kelli can often be seen on-stage throughout the Los Angeles area. Currently, she's the host of SMTCL-TV, co-host of the podcast RICK'S MARTINI BAR, and has several Film and Television projects in various stages of development and production.

Forced Versus Organic

Listen to "Forced Versus Organic" on Spreaker. Many of us don't like to be forced into making decisions or leading a life and style chosen by others. Organically we make choices but step free of so many decisions because it leads to so many questions. I have two examples and neither of them are to be taken as negatives. I daily write by way of being organic. I don't set out to create a subject. Free form thinking and writing is an incredible tool used when I'm invited to interview authors, actors, musicians, politicians and whomever else says yes to a few minutes of talk. I do believe my forty years in radio didn't happen organically. I played by the decisions made by others. It became extremely difficult to sit inside a radio station studio reading liner cards and playing music I'd never listen to in the car or at home trying to relax. It's just what radio does. It became my daily choice to participate with what is or isn't radio. I had fun but I didn't get to be me. This brings me to the next example. Religion and or spirituality. Forced or organic? On this podcast I read from my daily writing from October of 2016. The writer knows where his heart is but digs deeper into why it is. Are his beliefs strong because the church forces the word into being held accountable or has the relationship grown organically? Each of us face the mirror and wonder what life must be like on the other side. Do you attempt to step through the great mystery of reflection or stay in the spirit of the moment knowing how much you can handle is already at its highest peak? Breaking through your forced moments versus organic helps you understand your heart. Living peace filled means facing the questions. Breaking down the thoughts. Listening to your wonder and worry. Being available to look at those that have been forcing you and softly saying, "I'm grateful." The challenge isn't to create a self made battle. The idea is to clear your path by making sure the soil isn't poisoned by Miracle Grow.
