The Key
Listen to "The Key" on Spreaker.
November 20, 2020
The key. I see you have one too. Yet nowhere on the walls in front of us is there a door or window. So why are we holding a key? For millions around the world they’d love to turn that key into an object that’ll open the front gate at a place of business. Being upfront and extremely transparent. There are days when it’s extremely difficult to find direction during these moments of stream thinking and free form writing. The very reason why I picked up daily writing in July of 1994 is nowhere close as to why it continues to grow in 2020. But it’s never been an easy discipline. I’m no different than you. We’re twisted by the turbulence of the daily headlines. Anxiety has overtaken our ambition to sport a fake smile and candy coated plastic bathroom mirror positive attitudes. Come clean. No matter how cluttered your space is, you feel alone. Stuck in a room with no air conditioning. Plus every word you’d like to share is silence because society doesn’t need any more rage. You’re not the fight starter! It’s the picture makers. The interpreters. Here’s why I think a great conversation turns into a disagreement. We as a people. I’m including everyone. We as a people assume we know what someone’s next sentence or thought is going to be. Look at how often we interrupt a point of view without the carrier of the message finishing. Now put on a Covid mask. Until March 2020 I had no clue how much I read other people’s lips. Not only are we trying to finish their sentences but we can’t hear them. So our imaginations make up the story. Invisible monsters that know how to trip your trigger. And when you do get mentally off balance you pray to God that you don’t turn into a Karen. There’s always another person with a smartphone documenting the conversation. I’ve turned one of my triggers into a process of testing the strength of a telemarketer. Why in God’s name has this interruption increased since Covid? Oh wait because there are a ton of people at home binge watching television so we’ve become their target. Which clearly gives me a reason to make them my target. I don’t hang up. I give them the most bizarre freaky weird stupid answers that mean absolutely nothing. Many of them do a lot laughing while others eventually hang up. I talk about my six trips on the Space Shuttle and what it was like to land on Venus. We talk about how I’m about to purchase Walmart. And there are times I stop and say, “Oh my God. It’s God. You are God. You are making this call to get my mind off this world. Can I interview you God? Let me turn on the recorder! So God. Um the shortage of toilet paper. Really?” Why am I doing this? I have a key. You have a key. We have walls around us every second of every day. There are no doors. There are no windows. What is this key for? Your heart. Let’s locate authentic peace. It begins by stepping away from stress and walking through the front door of giving someone else the opportunity to also escape. The key. Use it.

Damn Google Calendar
Listen to "Damn Google Calendar" on Spreaker.
November 19, 2020
Google Calendar is a great map to sink you journey into. But does it teach us to stop the physical act of memory? How often do you test yourself? I don’t mean mental images of the family at the beach or your childhood photographs. Memory! Knowing what’s on your plate today. Remembering what you accomplished two days ago or what needs to get finished before the weekend. Technology has made us lazy. Look at what spell check has done. Because I do a lot of writing on physical paper I must also include having a dictionary nearby. As we grow deeper into this new world of A.I’s we’re being told that life will be easier. I can’t help but think how much we’re going to lose as human beings. Look how quickly we get out of tune when we stop doing a particular thing at work only to come back to it in a month. We sit there for a few moments and think about the project and all the shortcuts invented by an imagination just trying to get it done. Our mind body and souls were designed to be challenged and changed. A vision of Space Odyssey is flowing through my memories. Having physical conversations with a computer blessed with the ability to think for us. Don’t get me wrong. I love Google Calendar, Grammarly, the Roomba and the Landroid lawnmower from Worx. Sadly though it paints the picture of the circular motion of the heavy weight, extremely lazy unable to walk characters in the film Wall-E. The only expectation of the day will be to climb onboard a moving lawn chair. In reality you’ve got to challenge your senses. Your brain needs to be worked and technology has done its wargames on your emotions. We don’t need to get news and information that fast. Most of us don’t know what to do with it after we are connected. I personally challenge my day to day memory and like a parent I hold myself responsible for not knowing the answer. The daily writing is to make sure I keep myself in touch with contact. Pen to paper not fingers on a keyboard. Computer screens offer too many opportunities to quickly erase whereas writing you’ve got to think about it a little more. Ask yourself in the middle of the night what you had for dinner? Challenge your memory without the aid of a car key locator. If you ever want to read about the effects of A.I’s dive into the pages of how the radio industry is living it. The business of radio wins. The performers are gone for good. How are A.I’s changing your workplace? It’s time to build your next platform before the industry of progress catches up.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 226
Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 226" on Spreaker.
November 17, 2020
I’ve made a change in my daily writing. Directing a lot of the attention toward a future reader. Recognizing them way back here in their presence of Now. It’s pretty difficult being open and honest with someone you’ll never meet. How do you tell them that your President once had Covid 19 and somehow someway got through it in a couple of days? There’ve been few changes in the national protesting. The political leaders are still taking swipes at each other. At the end of this letter to a future reader I wrote, “God hasn’t stopped us.” I pause to take a good look at the forest outside this studio. It has an incredible way of helping me erase uncertainty. It provides life beyond human need and fear. A six point buck greeted me in the forest this morning. His universal expression carried with it a huge message. His strong stance inspired me to pull my shoulders back. His dark brown steady eyes offered me lessons with focus. There were three doe and two fawn nearby which invited me to a stronger truth. Family comes first. I keep reminding myself of the multiple times we as a generation have been challenged while facing questions about any day moving forward. Somehow we made it through each storm. In looking back much of it has been lost in the clutter. The most difficult part about being a daily writer? On any day of the week I can open any journals and relive a moment. Good, bad or ugly it’s right in there on a page in ink. No pencil. I might be inspired to erase history. Dear Future Reader…

Hit The Road
Listen to "Hit The Path" on Spreaker.
November 13, 2020
Did you know that anxiety and fear only look the same but aren’t? Fear deals with what’s happening right now whereas anxiety deals with what’s in front of us. Both get your heart rate up and both have a way of ripping us down. The smallest things are taking us out. A simple checkup at the doctor today has me spinning in circles. The doctor! Covid central! People go to the doctor when things aren’t right. Not when the world is looking good. I did all I could to get in by 7am. The first! No go. Then meet me out in the car! Nope. Man, these are some changing times. 10.5 million Covid cases in America. Nothings changing. Because we won’t change! I didn’t have any problems going to the dentist a few weeks back. Why this reaction to the doctor? Probably cuz I always feel guilty. I’m not one of those perfect people. I have to look at the little things. I’ve lost weight since our last pow wow. No Covid 15 for me! I walk a lot. In touch with nature. Meditation on the move. Listening to the wind. Studying the art of the universe. Got to keep my legs strong. If the nation falls we’re all gonna have to hit the path. The weak are always left behind. Got my meditation music on right now. Inside this out of control world are millions of minds that are making matters worse by way of putting energy into the presence of fear and anxiety. The little things! Concentrate on the stuff we naturally push away. My very very very loud bird chuckled when I whispered “I love you.” The little things! You feel peace not pieces. Your heart calms before the next storm. I used my Picasso writing instrument this morning. It’s so smooth. Yessssss! The little things! If you’ve ever used a pen that feels like its dragging then you know why the Picasso was the perfect choice. With so much negativity endlessly reshaping us it’s so easy to get wrapped up in other people’s drama. You can listen but you can’t carry it with you. When the conversation comes to a conclusion dump your trunk right there on the spot. If you don’t it’s gonna turn into gossip and have a bad after taste. Be in control of your worry by knowing the route to physical conversations and not texting or emailing. Too much emotion is wasted on assuming you know where another person mentally is. Pick up the phone and start the talk. Flip the switch on anxiety and fear by being present here. Knowing how to belong without having to misbehave. Awareness of your emotions and feelings is a great sport to play but when it’s the only thing you’re playing it burns out your systems of choice. Be present. Be prepared to say, “No not today.” Get control of what’s taking you out.

Golly Gee
Listen to "Golly Gee" on Spreaker.
November 12, 2020
There's no magic trick in the art of self-motivation. Therefore the hand isn't quicker than the eye. Being present is the only solution. Knowing how the power of Now has the willingness to super serve the actuality. There needs to be truth in the physical experience and not an attempt to redesign the formation of thought. When I say, “Winning is a choice,” I have to be ready to live it. I can’t just say it. I have to believe in the empowerment of winning being a choice. And when left empty I need to utilize that energy by way of activating the statement. If winning is the choice, so is the empty heart and lack of ambition. To stay in that frame of thought is a walk and way of life. You don’t use the sentence as a go to movement by way of faking the mental attitude. It has to be the mindset that prevails over all things. It’s no different than what people were saying back in the 1980’s “What would Jesus do?” You can’t just say it and expect change. You have to live it. To become part of the path and journey. You put yourself in the shoes of a great teacher. What would you do? The step is to make a choice. If it’s a story already lived there’s a huge chance that it’s being rewritten. To which I ask, “How many times?” We’ve evolved into this generation that’s giving itself permission to wishfully let things fade from sight. If we don’t see it then it didn’t exist. Living off the energy developed by a winning choice allows the present to have a place in the existence of Now. There’s no need to invest in past events or an untouched future. There’s enough going on right Now without having to drain your inner batteries on something that didn’t happen and probably never will. Tell your mind, “Winning is a choice.” Put your passion into it. Don’t let those voices inside your heart hear a weakened soul. Winning is a choice. Drop the microphone and leave the stage.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 225
Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 225" on Spreaker.
November 10, 2020
What if we’re not supposed to be covering up the spots in our life that keep us from being featured on magazine covers? I love watching people at Home Depot and Lowes. Always buying patching kits. Got a dry patch in the backyard let’s get some miracle grow! No! Let’s extend the deck! Fix it to look good! I learn a lot from my forest. The most peace filled unbelievably un-perfect chunk of land on the planet. Yet the hourly beauty it projects puts the heart in the right place every time we visit. The sights and sounds of a forest so early. The dampness of the air combined with the daily expectation of having to provide. The apple tree of many seasons has been empty of leaves. Has time caught up to my old friend? A large pile of wood chips a mountain size high waits impatiently to be spread across the forest floor. Feeding the roots of these trees is extremely important to me. It’s natural energy to an area that’s been brutalized by the growth of the city. We speak a language this forest and I. I honestly have no clue as to what’s been said only that the important part of the journey is what’s being felt. The deer live here. As do the owls, hawks, snakes and we’ve had two bear sightings. And here I sit in a moment of acceptance with nothing intruding on nature’s behavior. Ummm what does any of this have in common with the opening thoughts of magazine covers and Home Depot? A forest doesn’t need to look good to be incredible. Fallen trees now covered in bright green moss. Vines so thick and hairy you’d think we’re living out a Stephen King movie. During these Covid-19 days and chapters it’s easy to see how everybody wants to change the color and design of their picket fence. There’s so much building and restructuring going on. We’re putting a mask over the truer feeling. Just like the forest it’s completely natural. But where is the reality? Keeping up with the Jones’ is quite the task. The tougher game is accepting ourselves during times of horrific change. We can’t ignore the pandemic anymore. Ten million American’s have been diagnosed with Covid. Quick get on Amazon! I’m not dealing with this! The election still isn’t over. Potato chips and salsa! Crap we’re out! Be right back! A side of my heart believes that we need to look roughed up. It’s been a long haul and putting paint on our faces isn’t telling the truth. Twenty million people are currently unemployed. Not a Debbie Downer moment! Awareness is the key to victory. We’ve evolved into champions of the new age of disguise. Hiders. Benders. Yet when you truly pull the lens back on any forest your heart will see how imperfect the image is because it’s not afraid to let you see its scars. This isn’t a free pass to be weight on someone else’s shoulders. It’s a moment to learn how to better accept our changes. A new you is being constructed and it doesn’t need the aid of a vice. My grandmother was never afraid to talk about her aging face. With a brilliant smile she’d say, “I’ve earned every crinkle. I’m proud of what I accomplished.” All of this. It’s a giant pain in the ***. The first step is very simple. You can’t do anything to change it. But you have control over you. Winning is a choice. Stop ghosting your emotions. Listen to your heart. If you aren’t facing fear, doubt, shame, guilty and uncertainty then why aren’t you teaching those who are?

Stream Thinking. The Power of Now. One page. No editing. 10 minutes to write. Learning to trust Free Form Writing. Our best decisions are made right now. Own your leadership. The Power of Now. The new day. But is it a new way? So much time is wasted trying to figure things out. Especially during these Covid days. Now that the election is over what will fill that void? What’s the final opinion based on? It’s in that moment of Now that we begin to realize how the decision to arrive was completely unpredictable and now we’re having to live with the outcome. Accept the fact that every day is a new day. That’s easy to digest. Through the empowerment of choice we can also accept all things experienced as being a new way. Giving yourself permission to allow it to flow through a river of process. To gain access to progress we need time. The very thing we’re wasting trying to figure things out. We’re holding ourselves back by our need to always want to know. Sure I’d love to hear how all of this is going to play out. Will we live happily ever after? The problem with knowing is our ability to want to change the story. Because we aren’t in favor of the conclusion. Therefore the energy spent getting into this present place of Now has been wasted due to a lack of acceptance. I’m seriously guilty of this. I’m also guilty of trying new things out just to say I did. And in doing so a lesson has been learned. The question is, did it take me away from what I was called to do? Forty one years of Broadcasting and I am nowhere near where I wanted to be. During each new day I kept trying new ways. What if the daily discipline was to stop trying to reinvent the circle and hold yourself accountable for being a square? Participate with the new day and naturally newer ways of your greatest strength will locate its victory.

Not The Same

There you are! How have you been? You getting by? What bills did you decide to pay this month? What? It’s an honest question! The world of radio and television aren’t the only companies tossing out deeply dedicated extremely loyal performers. The physical act of getting through the winter of 2020 is gonna require the presence of all of us. I’m preparing by talking with men and women of homelessness. They are a hero in my heart. They know the shape and shades of the street. I need to know how to make it through the night. Every one of us are so dang tired. We’re exhausted by this present chapter of Covid meeting politics with a huge dose of uncertainty. I’m honest enough to say that our disease is the media. They have us by the nap of the neck and force their points of view through our skulls. They repeat the same story so much that we eventually begin to believe their headlines. For a while I began to love the news outlets that would take what was said and compare it to fact. Now I think their so called truth is just as poisonous. It’s a popularity contest! How many suckers can we get online with us? This is only an observation. Hangout or hang up. My heart is tremendously injured by an extremely simple question. How many friendships or family relationships have been destroyed because of the media’s lopsided behavior of basing their stories on truth? Movies about Rock Stars aren’t real. It’s based on fact. The Freddie Mercury and Queen billion dollar attraction Bohemian Rhapsody was not the way it really was. I found myself arguing with the giant movie screen! How do I know it was false? I’ve been living music history every day since I was ten in my bedroom radio station. Now toss in the real world events such as the pandemic, politics and whatever else nabs a few big letters in the headlines. No wonder we’re living a life without air. What is and what isn’t? The perception of our direction is determined by the imprint of the weight of all things spoken and printed by way of media then changed by word of mouth. From talk radio to national television networks to social media websites, we are replenishing our souls in this new age of the National Enquirer. Based on what we’ve heard and or read on other people’s posts this is what we’re reporting today. You have to believe it because the analytics show how many times you keep coming back. I was so angry with myself after the election. I kept returning to CNN.com to check up on who and what would be named King of The United States. The top story was always the same. The headlines changed. And so have we. We’re so disconnected from the shards of reality that we’re expecting other people to think for us. I end with this thought. Our only place to locate peace and solitude in 2020 is sitting on the toilet. What would you like to finally free itself from your body? Will there be sound? What’s it gonna smell like?

Washing Dishes
Listen to "Washing Dishes" on Spreaker.
November 5, 2020
I’m gonna put it out there. This Covid 19 quarantine has changed me. I publically confess that I enjoy handwashing the dishes. I do! It helps me locate solitude and inner peace. A total disconnection from the world. Then I mess them up cuz I’ve gotten into cooking crazy dinners that don’t go together but man it’s fun to try anything! Handwashing the dishes is nothing more than my very strict father sternly saying, “Put your toys away!” It’s very difficult to be present in this place of Now. I’m a daily writer and damn if it’s not tough as nails to be the keeper of a mind that’s flooded by the events of the outside situations. The worst part? There’s nothing we can do except to make ourselves and others aware. We can offer ideas but you know how that plays out. In all things that come to us as great reasons to build up a thought there’s always going to be confrontation. People are willing to help out but there has to be a benefit for them. Therefore our noticeable difference during this present walk is a situation called clustering. We cluster things together so that we aren’t wasting time or energy during the journey to bring them forward. A good example. I won’t hit the drugstore unless I have other errands to put with escape from the house. So I wait and wait until there’s enough to do out there or I’m staying in here. Another example of clustering. I won’t rake the leaves off the lawn until every leaf has fallen off the trees. I’m not coming back here to do it again in three days. I’m guilty of not fully cleaning the house until I’ve clustered every room together and it’ll get done in one big swoop. Only to complain about having too much work to do. Rather than evenly pacing out our days and nights we want to pull everything into the picture. One problem though. We’re forgetting to do the little things. Maybe it’s because we’re tired or consumed with other clusters. I’m truly shocked that we don’t have breakfast lunch and dinner at the same time. And if we did would it be in the name of saving time or feeding this wild new monster named Cluster. Breaking the habit of clustering requires the heart to let go of the idea that a victory comes in a big box. The more you have to do the better you feel about yourself. I can say this because you already know I’m weird but each time I pass the bathroom mirror I tell that image looking back how glad I am that he’s there. Recognizing your new self and accepting the moment as being an uncharted trial and trail allows your inner core to be peaceful to the outside person wanting to break free of all things murky and unexplained. Rather than clustering bill paying with deck blowing and taking the kids to soccer. Make a map. Today is Thursday. This is your expectation. Nothing else can come into play. Turn it into a discipline. Create even flow. You don’t have to stuff all your fun into a single Saturday. Remove the cluster. Do one thing fun. Then talk about it. Dream about another like it. Give yourself enough room to digest the season. The same is true at your job. I totally get that bosses are demanding more work out of you with lesser pay. I hear about it every day. Instead of competing with the boss give yourself permission to take the cluster out of the equation. No matter how long my line is at the grocery store and no matter how much they can’t stand to be in that line. It’s one customer at a time and each and every one of them get quality service. The very second I turn off my smile and warm conversation it serves as a reason to shop somewhere else because disconnected service is found everywhere. Be in control of you. You know where your heart is and how beautiful it performs when there’s harmony inside your soul. Be you at all costs. Then share you with the rest of the world.

True Presence
Listen to "True Presence" on Spreaker.
November 4, 2020
I challenged myself last night to stay 100% away from the pre-game election results. Which is extraordinarily weird for a Broadcaster to say. We’re designed by program directors and consultants to be constantly connected to the heartbeat of what’ll be tomorrow’s watercooler conversation. Couldn’t put myself in that pair of shoes. No television, radio and social media. I woke up a different person. No anxiety. More open minded. Ready to take on the day with a positive leadership attitude and not one poisoned by the opinions of who these networks have labeled leaders in journalism. It takes absolutely no effort to put an opinion into play. Sadly we’ve all been given permission to post it. Only to ask why we’ve lost so many friends and family members. I totally grasp the truths of the world. We were born with and will die with an opinion. This is why I love talking with people. Did you catch that? Talking with… Not watching and having no way to express my side of the experience. Talking with… Somewhere along the journey we’ve forgotten how to be open to the idea of having a conversation. Not a text or post. I can’t hear your voice. I can’t see your eyes or body language. Its words! No emotion. If there’s friction. Let’s talk it out. Let’s replenish the soil with a better understanding of each other’s points of view and direction. The mission is to still be present with your voice but do so without verbally sparring your way to the top of the MMA championship. The daily activation should be focused on gaining access to a better understanding. Don’t forget as humans we are structured creatures. We have habits so large and so strong that trying to physically define the presence of the equation requires an act of conversation. The moment we were born each of us were given a voice in our head and heart. A voice only we could hear and keep in contact with. A voice that many trust while others spend their entire life trying to run away from. A voice so incredibly loud that it drowns out the truer picture of what a relationship is about. Then we have the outside voice. Which over the past fifteen years has evolved into fingers tapping on keyboards. For us to heal. For us to grow forward and outward. Let’s work together on conversation. Let your voice. The one connected to your mouth. Reach our ears. We were born to listen.

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 224
Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 224" on Spreaker.
November 3, 2020
I used to say that my connection with all things nature was due 100% to my younger years in the extremely beautiful Big Sky Country of Montana. The seed may have been planted but it hasn’t been my entire journey. There’s a requirement in the furthering of such inner spirit and flow. Learning to love all living things includes spiders, snakes and snapping turtles. All living things. Even those who have put their foot into a pair of shoes labeled unfriendly. How often do you want to grab a big ole pillow and smash your face into it to scream as loud and long as you can? We’ve all had those moments. But in reality it truly is a total waste of your inner strength and energy. All of that boom boom pow put into a collection of feathers? In the moments after you may feel better but you’re also exhausted. All things nature welcome your presence with no need to purchase a ticket. Falling leaves. Colder temps. A fresh coat of newness endlessly arrive in nature. Instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off. The choice should be an invitation into a collection of trees. To sit next to a rock. To listen to the flow of water. To spot an ugly bug on the ground and just watch it move through life. I’m known for not liking the months that make up fall and winter. This year seems different. Because of the pandemic many of us have spent our quarantine time watching spring turn into summer. To be present in that process has cleared our hearts of the constant need to just accept it as is. Watching it grow into place then release it teaches your senses to learn a new way to become part of the elements that which make up the universe. In nature you can be truth filled with no need to scream. The energy provided is shared equally without judgement. The changing of the seasons is accepted in every circle and or collaboration. Native American spirituality teaches us that every tree and every rock is gifted with the ability to be incredible storytellers. Sitting next to either is an experience like that of meditation. You feel something but you can never explain it. You want to share it with everybody but feel odd because it showcases what others may see as being out of place or weird. A roofer was inspecting my storm damage the other day. Before he climbed that ladder I very calmly said, “Be aware of what you’re about to experience up there. You’re going to see the deer in the forest. A hawk will screech from a nearby tree and you’ll take note of the most beautiful flow of bright red cardinals.” He smiled in a way that pretty much said, “A tree hugger. Quick get up this ladder!” When he came down almost 30 minutes later I asked about the length of time, “Was there more storm damage then expected?” His new smile was followed with these words, “I didn’t want to let go of all of that nature. I saw everything you said I would which invited me to keep looking for other things.” Preserve your energy. During these challenging uncertain times don’t give yourself permission to scream into a pillow. Nature is calling…

What Is Religion
Listen to "Steam Thinking The Power Of Now What Is Religion" on Spreaker.
November 2, 2020
I’ve started a new podcast series titled: Stream Thinking the Power of Now. Learning to trust free form thinking. Our best decisions are made right now. Own your leadership. The rules? One page. Ten minutes to write. No editing. Plenty of time to talk about it at the end. Putting the nib of the writing instrument on the surface of paper and writing whatever is moving through you in this moment of Now. The subject this week is a tangled up question. What is religion in a world redesigned by a pandemic and political recklessness? Very easily I could’ve said “2020 is trying to lay us down for good!” A year has no feelings. A year has no compassion. No way of knowing who and what is hurting or gaining. The way people choose to believe and or not has been affected by the inner strengths ignited by what they assumed religion is, might be or won’t ever be. We are always told that God forgives. God lives. God replenishes and God fixes all things. Yes. Yes and yes. But not on the same playing field as the injured human. The UK and other nations have been shut down because of the pandemic. Here in the states we continue to hit unheard of numbers with decision makers still refusing to recognize the sickness. God and religion are very present. Our personal choices need to be of his word or not. That’s a decision just as is the mindset we pull ourselves into when agreeing with or walking away from another human’s behavior. I don’t want to sound like a political candidate but after nine months of quarantine how are you doing? How do you locate your inner strength and trust? Everything you once were is currently sitting in the corner of your eye. The struggle to stay focused has weakened so many legs. Yet we keep pushing. I’m not saying the sky is falling, I’m asking how we can build with what we already have? Whatever you believe in. Whatever I believe in. Let’s bring them together and utilize the strength to repair the present. The physical call is to become better listeners. To be ready to lift each other by being equal with love, peace and understanding. Then sharing the harvest equally. The stream thinking power of now message? We need each other. This isn’t a solo sport.
