Creative Mind Part Two

Listen to "Creative Mind Part 2" on Spreaker. In part one of Creative Mind we put focus on recognizing what is and isn't creative energy in your life. In this chapter we rely more on the experience. Which is usually that one place people don't want to go because they think creative energy is something you have to be in the mood for. So we easily set it aside then complain about how bad of a day we are having. The reality? Your creative self is endlessly generating art. Listen to the way you speak or drop thoughts onto FaceBook. You can't ignore the beast within. Which is what it becomes when the art you were designed to make is put up on a shelf for an open weekend that may never come. It drives you crazy when bosses or spouses don't give you the proper attention you deserve. Imagine what that creativee self inside of you is doing. No wonder we look forward to the weekend to party with the neighbors and friends. Once you begin to fill your mind body and soul with margaritas and bourbon the path for that inner voice has been given permission to come out any way it wants to. Not always the happy song or place. So we shrug our shoulders and shoot for another day. While the creative energy continues to build. Where will you be when it finally pops? Learn how to get it under control.

Jax Jones

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Jax Jones Plays New York" on Spreaker. It's not always about getting to the festival. For Master Mixers and performers being in a certain city or club plays a huge role in making a connection with fans and followers. Jax Jones recently played in New York for the first time. Knowing the history of Hip Hop he knew he had to bring some Biggie to the performance. His latest release on rBeatz Radio is You Don't Know Me.

Max Berga From Everywhere

Listen to "Max From Everywhere Releases Man Up" on Spreaker. I'm amazed at how a song can be featured on YouTube only to be released worldwide two months down the path. It's part of the marketing of music in 2017. How? Why? We went straight to Max Berga from the Swedish group Everywhere whose new song Man Up is on network channel but won't hit iTunes until June 9th. He says you have to market a song in order to get it on Spotify. Catch the entire conversation now....

Stephen Galloway

Listen to "Stephen Galloway Leading Lady" on Spreaker. The definitive biography of movie executive and philanthropist Sherry Lansing traces her groundbreaking journey to become the first female head of a major motion picture studio, shares behind-the-scenes tales from movie sets and Hollywood boardrooms, and explains what inspired her to walk away from it all to start the Sherry Lansing Foundation. When Sherry Lansing became the first woman ever to be named president of a major studio, the news ricocheted around the world. That was just the beginning of an extraordinary run that saw her head two studios, make hundreds of films, produce classic pictures such as Fatal Attraction and rule for twenty-five years as the most powerful woman Hollywood has ever known. Award-winning writer Stephen Galloway takes us behind the scenes of Lansing's epic journey—inside the battles; up close with the stars; and into the heart of a creative world populated by the likes of Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, Jane Fonda, Angelina Jolie and Tom Cruise. He shows us the velvet touch that masked the iron hand, and the roller-coaster drama behind such movies as Titanic, Forrest Gump, Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan. Above all, he takes us into the mind of Lansing, creating a revealing portrait of a dynamic, driven woman who overcame unimaginable odds, pushed boundaries and left Hollywood at the peak of her power to achieve the life she wanted.

Clint Holmes

Listen to "Clint Holmes Rendezvous" on Spreaker. The son of an African-American jazz musician and a classically-trained British opera singer, Clint Holmes was raised with the best of two musical worlds. Blessed with a powerful tenor voice, magnetic stage presence, and a charming comedic streak, Holmes makes every performance unforgettable. His 40-plus year career has taken him to the top of the charts, to concert halls, on TV screens, and also cemented his legacy as a veritable Las Vegas institution. Through the years, Holmes has amassed a resume full of wonderfully diverse experiences. His big break came in 1972 when he released "Playground In My Mind," a song that stayed for 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1986 to 1988, he served as Joan Rivers’ sidekick and announcer on FOX’s “The Late Show.” He was also a musical feature and event correspondent for “Entertainment Tonight,” and as the host of his own Emmy Award-winning talk/variety show. As much as he likes the small screen, Holmes freely admits, that he loves nothing more than performing to a live audience. In recent years, Holmes could be found wowing crowds in Las Vegas. From 2000 to 2006, he headlined at his “Clint Holmes Theater” at Harrah’s – performances from his theater airing as specials on PBS and IN DEMAND. From 2012 through 2016, Holmes was honored to serve as the Artist-In-Residence at Cabaret Jazz in the newly-opened Smith Center for the Performing Arts, a world-class performing arts center in Las Vegas, where he performed a new show each month to sell-out crowds. The intervening years saw Holmes performing at such gigs as “To Ella With Love” at the Hollywood Bowl, and writing and performing in several musicals including “Comfortable Shoes,” “Inspired,” “Remembering Bobby Short,” “Just Another Man,” and his latest, “This Thing Called Love,” The Music of Cole Porter and Paul Simon. Now, in 2017, Holmes is back with a new album, Rendezvous. Produced by eight-time Grammy Award-winner Gregg Field, the sophisticated album offers a diverse playlist that reinterprets modern day and classic pop hits, soulful R&B, theatrical tunes, and numbers culled from the Great American Songbook. Rendezvous features Grammy Award-winners, including Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Jane Monheit, along with multi-Grammy nominee Ledisi, platinum-selling jazz luminary Dave Koz, and The Count Basie Orchestra. The new album is winning Holmes praise, something not new to the Sin City veteran. In Las Vegas, Holmes has won numerous accolades for his performances, including “Best All-Around Las Vegas Performer,” and “Favorite Male Las Vegan” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal; “Best Kept Secret,”and “Best Singer” (two years in a row) by Las Vegas Life Magazine; named by Broadway World as “Best Singer” in both New York and Las Vegas in 2015; plus being named Nevada’s “Ambassador of the Arts” in 2015. Holmes has been inducted into the Buffalo Musical Hall of Fame (his hometown), and the Las Vegas Casino Legends Hall of Fame

Creative Mind Part One

Listen to "The Creative Mind Part One" on Spreaker. I'm blessed to get the incredible opportunity to sit with a huge number of creative minds. There's no feeling better then watching a silent idea become a surface level reality. Helping people understand their creative potential is a moment that evolves into a long stream of changes not only in their lives but everyone that comes in contact with what they have created. But it's not so easy to meet hidden creators. Those I'm with have stepped free of those forts and huts and pushed their awkward way out into the open. There are millions of writers, singers, performers, producers and leaders trapped in worlds of fear, shame, doubt and other people's greed. Reaching them is what I call dropping the four walls of the church and becoming part of the true thread of the street. To crack open a creative seed is a journey that usually starts with finally answering that voice that wakes you up after not letting you sleep. Stop fighting it. Become who you were called to be. If anyone has a problem with it... Move forward without them. Ouch!

Zedd

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Zedd Is A Hugger" on Spreaker. How you greet people in public is a language of its own. Here in the states most would rather fist bump then swap germs by way of the handshake. Master Mixer Zedd is a hugger. But that's been a little different for some nations he's traveled to. Germany isn't to receptive whereas the Italians won't break the hug. His latest release on rBeatz Radio has him teamed up with Alessia Cara Stay.

Lana Del Rey

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Lana Del Rey Its Autobiographical" on Spreaker. Pouring out your soul on FaceBook or Instagram are one thing. When the songs you write are pictures of your past present and future the world taps into your beats in ways that create a truer relationship. Lana Del Rey isn't afraid to be real. Her latest release on rBeatz Radio has her teamed up with The Weeknd Lust For Life.

Rob Sheffield

Listen to "Rob Sheffield Dreaming The Beatles" on Spreaker. In DREAMING THE BEATLES, veteran music journalist and best-selling author Rob Sheffield tells the strangest story in pop culture history: how four lads from Liverpool became the world’s biggest group, then broke up—but then somehow just kept getting bigger. How did this happen? Why are the Beatles more famous and beloved now than ever? How is there still so much life in this music? In DREAMING THE BEATLES, the Rolling Stone columnist brings his own unique style of masterful cultural criticism to the ballad of John, Paul, George and Ringo, exploring why the Beatles matter so intensely to a generation that has never known a world without them. It’s a fresh, unconventional, definitive approach to the Beatles—their mythology as much as their music. As in his previous books like Love Is A Mix Tape and On Bowie, Sheffield digs deep into the emotional connections we make to the music we love. How can we keep hearing ideas about our own lives in these songs? How does their music still sound so vibrant and influential today, some 50 years after much of it was recorded? And how has this band become the ubiquitous soundtrack to our lives? DREAMING THE BEATLES is a passionate celebration of that music, showing how the Fab Four became a cultural obsession—and how in so many ways they invented the future we’re all living in right now.

The Valley Floor

Listen to "The Valley Floor" on Spreaker. I specialize in a style of writing that can easily be simplified by what I call "Hiding." It's taking the moments of what we live and feel and ripping from it's emotion all that is negative. Putting the positive inside it's emptiness. As much as I call it "Hiding" I also see it as growing. What we move through during our times of seasonal changes aren't always meant to bend your knees and knock you upside the head and heart. By letting the moment move through you then writing about it through positive ways and eyes. You're able to return to the sheets of paper you filled a different time. That's when you realize the one time attack against your mind body and soul was actually a step forward. Practice this thing I call "Hiding." It's difficult in the beginning only because you want to dump how you truly feel into that sheet of paper. To which I ask, "What did that tree do to you? It sacrificed it's rings so you'd have a place to be free." Now that you respect the moment I invite you to enter your realm of "Hiding."

Jelly Roll

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Jelly Roll The Non Believers" on Spreaker. Anytime an artist moves into the forefront of what people are talking about there's always going to be ship loads of judgement. How could a 450 pound Caucasian man from Tennessee be taking over the world of Hip Hop? Multiple loads of Kid Rock fans are seeing the rise of a new leader of sound. The latest release from Jelly Roll on rBeatz Radio is Wheels Fall Off.

French Montana

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update French Montana Music Is For The Fans" on Spreaker. To gain access to a fan base you've got to make yourself available on all platforms. French Montana has pushed himself beyond the beats and straight onto the streets of Hollywood. But that doesn't mean he's taken his eye off the origin of the seed. He says you've always got to be there with music and make it available for everyone to get into. His latest release on rBeatz Radio has him teamed up with Swae Lee Unforgettable.

Redd

Listen to "Redd Caught On Camera" on Spreaker. Being a Broadcaster in 2017 demands that you take your performance to a much higher level of play. If you aren't on the digital stage you're about twelve pages back from reality. At rBeatz Radio it's our daily ambition to push the walls to the side. To bring out the invisible and let the face of art be experienced. I truly believe we are taking the mystery out of music. We want the artist to know their fans and listeners. Therefore we provide several different platforms that invite a lot of exploration. Video conversations with incredible camera moves and song videos mixed with live performances. It's about the experience with every reason to pass it forward.

Virginia Hanlon Grohl

Listen to "Virginia Hanlon Grohol From Cradle To Stage" on Spreaker. While the Grohl family had always been musical—the family sang together on long car trips, harmonizing to Motown and David Bowie—Virginia never expected her son to become a musician, let alone a rock star. But when she saw him perform in front of thousands of screaming fans for the first time, she knew that rock stardom was meant to be for her son. And as Virginia watched her son's star rise, she often wondered about the other mothers who raised sons and daughters who became rock stars. Were they as surprised as she was about their children's fame? Did they worry about their children's livelihood and wellbeing in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers? Did they encourage their children's passions despite the odds against success, or attempt to dissuade them from their grandiose dreams? Do they remind their kids to pack a warm coat when they go on tour? Virginia decided to seek out other rock star mothers to ask these questions, and so began a two-year odyssey in which she interviewed such women as Verna Griffin, Dr. Dre's mother; Marianne Stipe, Michael Stipe of REM's mother; Janis Winehouse, Amy Winehouse's mother; Patsy Noah, Adam Levine's mother; Donna Haim, mother of the Haim sisters; Hester Diamond, Mike D of The Beastie Boys' mother. With exclusive family photographs and a foreword by Dave Grohl, From Cradle to Stage will appeal to mothers and rock fans everywhere.

Mark Slaughter

Listen to "Mark Slaughter Half Way There" on Spreaker. Legendary Hard Rock vocalist Mark Slaughter has announced the upcoming release of his sophomore solo release HALFWAY THERE, being released in MAY Worldwide via EMP LABEL GROUP, the US based label of Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. HALFWAY THERE, the follow up to 2015’s independently released REFLECTIONS IN A REAR VIEW MIRROR, is a stunning return to form for Slaughter, channeling the familiar Hard Rock sensibility of classic-era SLAUGHTER releases like Stick it to Ya and The Wild Life on “Hey You” and emotionally-charged title track “Halfway There”, with a mature, progressive, Metal bent, evidenced on cuts like “Devoted”, “Conspiracy”, and “Reckless”. Produced and co-mixed by Slaughter with John Cranfield (AFI, Andy Grammer), with art by famed horror/album artist “Mister” Sam Shearon (Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden, KISS, Clive Barker) HALFWAY THERE is slated to be released May 26th in North America by EMP LABEL GROUP/AMPED, and EMP/SPV in Europe, and May 10th in Japan via EMP LABEL GROUP/UNIVERSAL. Mark will tour Japan in May with Slaughter, supporting RATT, in conjunction with the Japanese release of the LP, with shows in Nagoya, Osaka, and a performance at the Tokyo Metal Summit, May 14th with Ratt, Sebastian Bach, E’nuff Z’nuff, and more. Not only is HALFWAY THERE a blistering showcase of Slaughter’s seemingly never-ending vocal abilities, but a glowing testament to his perpetually underserved prowess as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, handling all production, engineering, songwriting, arrangements, guitar, and the bulk of the album’s instrumentation himself.  Slaughter says,  “My first solo record (Reflections in a Rear View Mirror) was kinda getting back on the horse, so to speak. I mean doing everything and recording... I’m taking on a lot more tasks as an engineer/producer/ writer on all this… because I’m doing everything. Ultimately at the end of the day, anybody who is a SLAUGHTER fan, will certainly understand that I am a large part of the Slaughter sound and vibe, so obviously if you like that, it’s in there. It’s just that I take a lot more liberties on the solo side that I probably wouldn’t do when it’s a group effort.”   He adds, “The record is basically.. I spend a lot of time writing songs and things just grow out of me.. Ill be woken up in the middle of the night from nowhere and the song’s just in my head and I just exorcize the demons and there you have it. I guess what it is is, an artist makes art. And I’ve really come to the fact that since we haven’t made a Slaughter record in so long, it’s one of those things that I still have to make the art. That’s what I do. That’s what I love to do, and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”

The Lyrics From Billy's Forest Chapter 67

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 67" on Spreaker. I was shocked to see that it's been nearly a month since I've written in the forest. How is that possible? It feels like just yesterday. While in thought my writing instrument drew out a frame of mind that sort of crosses the line. Has God gotten so bored with our place in time that he's taking his game to a different level? I do it all the time. When I want Monopoly or any other board game to come to an end I will make mistakes on purpose just to let someone win. How is it nearly May of 2017 already? There are so many mile makers along the way that should be slowing us down but nothing seems to be creating mountains. We keep mowing down the possibility of a seed. To keep peace at heart without wandering my new search is for boredom. I love sitting in it. I love to stare at a blank wall with no photographs or paintings. Boredom is the only way I've been able to slow down time. Is this the reason why people of age don't like to sleep at night? They realized how fast time is moving so they want to participate with more ticks on the clock.

Micheal Nesmith

Listen to "Michael Nesmith Infinite Tuesday" on Spreaker. Michael Nesmith’s eclectic, electric life spans his star-making role on The Monkees, his invention of the music video, and his critical contributions to movies, comedy, and the world of virtual reality. Above all, his is a seeker’s story, a pilgrimage in search of a set of principles to live by. That search took Nesmith from a childhood in Dallas, where his single mother Bette invented Liquid Paper, to the set of The Monkees in Los Angeles; to the heart of swinging London with John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix; and to an unexpected oasis of brilliance in the Santa Fe desert, where his friendships with Douglas Adams and Los Alamos scientists would point him toward the power of the infinite and the endless possibilities of human connection. This funny, thoughtful, self-aware book is a window onto an unexpected life, inflected at every turn by the surprising candor and absurdist humor of an American original. Opening Infinite Tuesday is like stepping into the world of Michael Nesmith, where something curious is always unfolding, and where riffs on everything from bands to dogs to the nature of reality make for an endlessly engaging journey.

Brett Berns

Listen to "Brett Burns Creator Of Bang" on Spreaker. Music meets the Mob in this biographical documentary, narrated by Stevie Van Zandt, about the life and career of Bert Berns, the most important songwriter and record producer from the sixties that you never heard of. His hits include Twist and Shout, Hang On Sloopy, Brown Eyed Girl, Under The Boardwalk, Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, Cry Baby, Tell Him, Cry To Me, Here Comes The Night and Piece of My Heart. He launched the careers of Van Morrison and Neil Diamond, and was the only record man of his time to achieve the trifecta of songwriter, producer and label chief. Filmmaker Brett Berns brings his late father’s inspirational story to the screen through interviews with those who knew him best and rare performance footage. Included in the film are interviews with Ronald Isley, Solomon Burke, Ben E. King, Van Morrison, Keith Richards and Paul McCartney. Born in the Bronx during the Great Depression to Jewish immigrants, a bout with childhood rheumatic fever damaged Berns’ heart – creating a sense of urgency and instilling a relentless and impassioned drive to make the most of his life. His love for the Mambo took him to Havana before the Cuban revolution, where he converted a whorehouse into a nightclub and ran guns for Castro’s rebels. Upon his return to New York’s Brill Building / 1650 Broadway milieu, Berns began a meteoric seven year run that saw him bring Latin rhythms into Rock and Roll and become one of the founding fathers of Uptown Soul music. Atlantic Records made him their staff producer in 1963 and he formed his own BANG Records label in 1965. Berns was also the first American producer to work in London during the British Invasion. He infused his songs with autobiographical lyrics and produced hundreds of sessions. His ambition was so great that, from the age of 31 to 38, he created 51 pop chart hits before succumbing to his damaged heart on December 30, 1967. The Bert Berns saga is not just another feel good immigrant son’s success story. It is also the harrowing tale of a fighting Jew who surrounded himself with some of the most feared men in the Italian mafia and fought epic battles to maintain control over his destiny. Following his untimely death, Bert Berns was blackballed by the industry he helped to create and whitewashed from its history books. Fifty years later, his legacy has been resurrected through a multimedia effort that includes the critically acclaimed biography Here Comes The Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm & Blues; the Broadway bound musical Piece of My Heart which premiered Off Broadway in 2014; and the documentary BANG! The Bert Berns Story – all of which cleared the way for Bert Berns’ induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Weathering The Storm

Listen to "Weathering The Storms" on Spreaker. We're all guilty of it. We allow the weather to affect as well as infect our decisions. When in fact weather is something we totally have no control over. Well what about the person storms in our hearts? Do we have enough space to erase? Or should we allow them to hit as well? I was with author Barbara Oakley a few days ago. We both agree that through daily writing personal storms are no different then natural weather systems. You can see things coming and get prepared for them. That doesn't guarantee the personal storm won't hit. It buys you time to make the right moves in your life. Being aware of how, where and why takes the shock out of the game. You knew the signs of an approaching moment. The first step is to take the necessary and required time to not let it interfere with how you go about your day. Personal storms are connected to several elements leading up to. Learning to recognize the signals helps you create an incredible day. I'd rather be the employee that people don't like because I'm always up beat rather than the person always walking around with their head slumped over. You have the power and knowledge to get control.

Men I Trust

Listen to "Dragos and Emma From Men I Trust" on Spreaker. In 2012, while finishing his master’s degree in audio postproduction at Laval University, Dragos spent most of his days and sleeping hours at the “LARC” studio working on his solo projects. He randomly met Jessy again, who was finishing his bachelor degree in Jazz guitar, in one of the faculty’s hallways and talked about doing a French-Touch / Italo-Disco track together. Some weeks later, they did just that. And it worked out so well that they decided to extend their collaboration to a whole project where many singers such as Odile Marmet-Rochefort, Gabrielle Shonk, Helena Deland and Geoffroy Sauvé, would be involved. Between 2012 and 2016, all of Jessy’s and Dragos’ (now pursuing a PhD) releases were made as part of Dragos’ masters and PhD studies in order to gain access to the LARC’s infrastructure and to develop a unique sound by mixing and mastering at the same time, achieving loud, large and high quality renders. MEETING EMMA Emma was a fortuitous encounter. In 2015 a mutual friend presented her to Dragos through a video posted over the Internet. She was casually singing and playing the guitar around a campfire with some of her friends. Emma’s voice was different, being less clear, more grainy and fragile with a mysterious twist that caught their attention. They reached her and tried recording one song called “Out in myself”, which turned to be one of the band’s easiest to record. Jessy and Dragos then invited her to join them on live shows with Odile at the beginning of 2015. The girls’ voices blended wonderfully together and the band got lots of positive feedback from the experience. Emma has been part of Men I Trust since then.

Mayte Garcia

Listen to "Mayte Garcia The Most Beautiful" on Spreaker. At the one-year anniversary of his death, (Prince passed away last April 21st) legendary musician Prince's first wife shares a uniquely intimate, candid, and revelatory look inside the personal and professional life of one of the world's most beloved icons. In The Most Beautiful, a title inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story, Mayte Garcia for the first time shares the deeply personal story of their relationship and offers a singular perspective on the music icon and their world together: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed), to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership), to the devastating losses that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Throughout it all, they shared a bond more intimate than any other in Prince's life. No one else can tell this story or can provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince--both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist--than Mayte, his partner during some of the most pivotal personal and professional years of his career. The Most Beautiful is a book that will be returned to for decades, as Prince's music lives on with generations to come

John Ingham

Listen to "John Ingham Spirit Of 76 London Punk Eyewitness" on Spreaker. When punk first broke in the UK in 1976, music journalist John Ingham was on hand to document the very heart of the scene. Struck by the music, fashion and sheer iconoclasm of a little-known outfit called the Sex Pistols, Ingham conducted the first interview with the band, partied with its members and even bailed Sid Vicious out of jail; he also witnessed and documented the group’s evolution at legendary gigs shared with other pioneering punk bands in their earliest days, including the Damned, the Clash, Subway Sect and more. The result is Spirit of 76: London Punk Eyewitness, a revelatory collection of photography and fly-on-the-wall reportage showcasing the punk movement from its most raucous, bewildering beginnings. Containing the only color photos from British punk’s first wave alongside Ingham’s inimitable prose, this volume constitutes a rare from-the-trenches report on the UK punk explosion from one of its original participants. Here is the story of a year made up as it happened, lived with excitement and the belief that you could make the future whatever you wanted it to be. ABOUT JOHN INGHAM John Ingham is one of the pioneers who championed Punk and helped change music forever. Writing under the nom-de-typewriter “Jonh Ingham” for the weekly music paperSounds, he saw and famously conducted the first-ever interview with the Sex Pistols in April 1976. Convinced he had witnessed the future of music he followed them throughout the year, seeing at close range their evolution at historic gigs, including the first time they played “Anarchy In The UK,” and even bailed Sid Vicious out of jail. He also saw and wrote the first reviews of the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Clash and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Noticing that hardly anyone was photographing these new groups, he picked up a camera and started documenting what he saw, shooting some of the only color images of these bands at the beginning of their careers.

Always Be Ready

Listen to "Always Be Ready" on Spreaker. Being a daily writer and published author one of my tricks of the trade is an exercise I've called word fermenting. Not always jumping out of the pages to share the messages and or paragraphs. By setting it aside it allows there to be a separation between the author and the reader the writer is. Too much time is spent editing. It creates a sad soul inside the perfectionist. Therefore I allow things to ferment. Today though I didn't play by that rule. A short paragraph moved through me much quicker then most.

Partynextdoor

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Partynextdoor Still Loves Home" on Spreaker. Multiple layers of creative writers, producers and performers have shed the skin of their small town roots to chase the chapters of global beats and song hooks. But does leaving mean they're no longer connected or like where they came from? According to Hip Hop artist Partynextdoor he's still very connected. Completely down to earth just like the first time he hit the stage. In fact he still gets butterflies before going out and hopes to never lose that vibe. His latest release on rBeatz Radio has him teamed up with Major Lazor and Nicki Minaj Run Up...

Young Thug

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Young Thug Shares His Success" on Spreaker. I love it when an artist realizes that a present moment of success or victory is always worth sharing. Young Thug is very familiar with the journey that's brought him to the charts. What he's not doing is letting it go to his head. His goal is to inspire. His latest release on rBeatz Radio has him teamed up with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande. A song titled Heatstroke.

David Leite

Listen to "David Leite Notes On A Banana" on Spreaker. Two time James Beard Award-winner David Leite brings a dash of Anthony Bourdain, Augusten Burroughs, and Kay Redfield Jamison to his memoir, NOTES ON A BANANA: A Memoir of Food, Love, and Manic Depression (Dey Street; April 11, 2017). Born into a devoutly Catholic, food-crazed family of Azorean immigrants in 1960s Fall River, Massachusetts, David had a childhood that was the stuff of sitcoms. But what no one knew was that this smart-ass, determined dreamer with a vivid imagination also struggled with the frightening mood swings of bipolar disorder. To cope, “Banana,” as his mother endearingly called him, found relief and comfort in food, watching reruns of Julia Child, and, later as an adult, cooking for others. It was only in his mid-thirties, after years of desperate searching, did he finally uncover the truth about himself, receive proper medical treatment, and begin healing. Throughout the narrative, David takes the reader along on the exhilarating highs and shattering lows of his life, with his trademark sense of humor: We watch as he slams the door on his Portuguese heritage in favor of blond-haired, blue-eyed WASPdom; pursues stardom with a near-pathological relentlessness; realizes he’s gay and attempts to "turn straight" through Aesthetic Realism, a cult in downtown Manhattan; battles against dark and bitter moods, delights in his twenty-plus year relationship with Alan (known to millions of David’s online readers as “The One); and shares the people, dishes, and events that shaped him. NOTES ON A BANANA is at once a tender look at growing up, a candid take on the power of self-acceptance, and an unflinching tale of the hell of mental illness. Its pages are brutally honest and necessary, creating a sense of universality and enduring hope that today’s readers need more than ever.

David Menkin

Listen to "David Menkin From Thunderbirds Are Go" on Spreaker. Thunderbirds Are Go is a reinvention of the classic 1960s TV series, Thunderbirds, and features the world's most famous family of heroes, International Rescue. The series highlights the five brave Tracy brothers and their covert operative Kayo as they pilot their remarkable, cutting-edge Thunderbird vehicles to perform seemingly impossible rescue missions -- from the depths of the ocean to the highest reaches of space. Now back for a third season on Amazon, Thunderbirds Are Go delivers a new level of action-adventure animation for today's audience while paying tribute to the characters and locations from the original series. As an actor, David Menkin has been featured in films such as the Oscar®-winning Zero Dark Thirty, Florence Foster Jenkins alongside Meryl Streep, and Hologram for the King starring Tom Hanks. Perhaps even better known for his voice work, David has been featured in animated series such as Thomas & Friends, Bob the Builder and Floogals, not to mention a score of popular video games. David plays the roles of "Virgil" and "Gordon Tracy" in Thunderbirds Are Go and can discuss why this reinvention of a classic series appeals to young audiences today.

I Want To Be a Secret Shopper

Listen to "Just Part Of The Group" on Spreaker. In every office or business I walk into the air holding up the atmosphere is instantly painted with a stale color of invisible moodiness. A program director once said to me "The future isn't one for the weak. A leader will have to be 95% psychologist 5% decision maker." Today's workplace claims to be a house of teamwork and spirit when in reality it's nothing more than three wobbly legs holding up everybody's excuses. Because I'm a note taker I hear things that business leaders think is a behind the scenes situation. I love sitting in a dentist office and patiently waiting for the drama. I grasp the moments when simple strolls through a grocery store expose who the true team leaders are and not the delegation pushers. The best employees aren't the listeners picking up where excuse creator Bobby left off. The best player is the one that looks at his teammate and says, "Get up and do it yourself." We've evolved into a world of victory collectors with only one person truly doing the work. Ouch but so true. Get up and do it yourself!

Russ

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Russ Talks About Lyrics And Clubs" on Spreaker. Once you score that first global hit you spend endless hours working on new beats with lyrics that match. Before scoring a SoundCloud channel Russ was already selling out clubs. Which is a lot to say for a Hip Hop artist. Most shows feature eight acts a night. Russ brings down the house as a solo performance. His latest release on rBeatz Radio is Exposed.

Richard Masur

Listen to "Richard Masur From Lonely Boys" on Spreaker. A graduate of NYU, American actor Richard Masur has been seen in supporting TV and movie roles since the early 1970s. His pliable facial features, boyish demeanor and indeterminate age have enabled Masur to play a rich variety of roles: a mentally retarded stockboy on All in the Family, a hotshot program manager on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and even a "friendly stranger" child molester in the 1981 TV movie Fallen Angel. Masur's film credits include Semi-Tough (1977); Who'll Stop the Rain (1978); The Thing (1982); Risky Business (1983); My Girl (1991), as Jamie Lee Curtis' prickly ex-husband; and the deservedly maligned Heaven's Gate (1980). Masur has also been a regular on several TV series: From 1975 through 1976, for example, he was divorcee Bonnie Franklin's much-younger boyfriend (and almost her second husband) on One Day at a Time. In 1987, Masur made his film directorial bow with the Oscar-nominated short subject Love Struck, but he continues to work primarily as an actor in both TV and film. Recently he has turned up on Transparent (2015-2016); Chicago Justice (2017); Orange is the New Black (2015-2016); Elementary (2013) and Blue Bloods (2014), among others. ABOUT THE MOVIE LONELY BOYS, ON DVD AND DIGITAL HD APRIL 14th Following a recent break-up, struggling writer Jule (Dan Simon, who also co-wrote and directed the film) crashes with his recently separated best friend, Saul (Gregory Lay), at his apartment in Brooklyn. While Saul wants to drink heavily and lament over his impending divorce, Jules just wants to escape into his latest script. After Saul is fired from his job as restaurant manager and Jules loses an off-Broadway production of his play, the two embark on a weekend bender through New York City and Connecticut in search of solace -- and sometimes more pain. When the sun finally rises, neither expects to see the light in this heartfelt, often humorous, dramedy about which Movie Buzzers says, “At times both brutally hilarious and brutally honest, Lonely Boys is the type of low-budget gem you hope to see in the program of a film festival.” An Official Selection of the 2016 San Antonio Film Festival, Greenwich International Film Festival and the Hudson Valley Comedy Festival among others, LONELY BOYS also captured the “It’s a Man’s World” Award at the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase. Aside from Simon and Lay, the film co-stars Richard Masur (“Younger,” “Transparent,” “Orange is the New Black”) and Mark Borkowski (“House of Cards,” “Broadway Empire”).

Julian Lennon

Listen to "Julian Lennon Touch The Earth" on Spreaker. “When a book takes you on an adventure, it's a good thing and allows you to think about something in a new way. When a book also reminds us how to treat what we have, it's even better because it’s a win win. That's exactly what Julian has done with his book . . . he's given us a Win Win.” —Whoopi Goldberg “I’ve always admired Julian Lennon’s singing, because for all he has seen of the world, his melodies contain such childlike wonder . . . his words, too. Buy this book, and his words turn into actions.” —Bono "It's rare to find a beautiful book that speaks directly to kids, in both a playful and thoughtful way, about something as important as caring for our planet and all of its inhabitants. Touch the Earth combines this magic with true hand-to-page interactivity deftly woven into the narrative (and illustrations), creating a story I believe both kids and adults will want to read over and over again." —Laurie Berkner From internationally known singer, songwriter, environmental activist, and the son of the late John Lennon, Julian Lennon—along with New York Times bestselling author Bart Davis and beloved Croatian illustrator Smiljana Coh—comes TOUCH THE EARTH, an inspiring and lyrical story about how children can change the world and make it a better place. In this debut picture book, readers will jump aboard the White Feather Flier, a magical plane that can go wherever you want, just point it up in the air, or down into the water. The White Feather Flier’s mission is to take children to places all over the world, engage them in helping to save the environment, and to teach them how to keep it clean for future generations. A passion project that comes from the heart, this stunningly-illustrated book is inspired by the white feather he was given by his father when he a was young. TOUCH THE EARTH is the first in a planned trilogy of similarly-themed picture books, and each will be released one year apart on Earth Day. A thrilling interactive experience à la Press Here, readers will participate in the action by pushing buttons within the book to help “fly the plane.” Lennon has written an original poem to accompany the release of this legacy book, and all proceeds will be donated to the White Feather Foundation.

Chris Whipple

Listen to "Chris Whipple The Gatekeepers" on Spreaker. What do Dick Cheney and Rahm Emanuel have in common? Aside from polarizing personalities, both served as chief of staff to the president of the United States—as did Donald Rumsfeld, Leon Panetta, and a relative handful of others. The chiefs of staff, often referred to as "the gatekeepers," wield tremendous power in Washington and beyond; they decide who is allowed to see the president, negotiate with Congress to push POTUS's agenda, and—most crucially—enjoy unparalleled access to the leader of the free world. Each chief can make or break an administration, and each president reveals himself by the chief he picks. Through extensive, intimate interviews with all seventeen living chiefs and two former presidents, award-winning journalist and producer Chris Whipple pulls back the curtain on this unique fraternity. In doing so, he revises our understanding of presidential history, showing us how James Baker’s expert managing of the White House, the press, and Capitol Hill paved the way for the Reagan Revolution—and, conversely, how Watergate, the Iraq War, and even the bungled Obamacare rollout might have been prevented by a more effective chief. Filled with shrewd analysis and never-before-reported details, The Gatekeepers offers an essential portrait of the toughest job in Washington. This book couldn’t be more timely: As Whipple argues, from the beginning Donald Trump’s presidency has been a textbook case of how NOT to run a government. From botched executive orders to internecine warfare among the senior White House staff, the Trump administration has been marked by dysfunction and disarray. As White House chief of staff, it is Reince Priebus’s responsibility to communicate the president’s message clearly – it is not the press secretary’s or the director of communications (a job still unfilled in the Trump White House) or anyone else’s. It is also Priebus’s job to make sure that the president, the Defense Secretary and Secretary of State are on the same page. So far it’s not happening. In The Gatekeepers, Whipple explains how every president needs an empowered chief of staff in order to govern effectively. This is especially true for an outsider president like Trump, with no governing experience. As Whipple’s book shows, modern history is littered with the wreckage of presidencies who failed to understand this lesson. By contrast, every successful president has understood the importance of a strong chief (Ronald Reagan knew that he needed a consummate Washington insider, James Baker, in order to get things done). From Watergate to the Iran-contra affair to the Iraq War to the bungled roll-out of Obamacare, Whipple brings fresh insights that he can discuss in an interview could not be more important or timely right now.

Clive Standen

Listen to "Clive Standen From NBC's Taken" on Spreaker. Clive Standen stars as Bryan Mills, a former Green Beret who deals with a personal tragedy that shakes his world, in NBC’s upcoming action thriller series “Taken.” Standen has created a strong foothold in Hollywood, starring in several critically acclaimed television series. He currently stars in History’s break-out scripted series “Vikings” as Rollo, a fearsome warrior with a wild impulsive streak and brother of Ragnar. Standen’s next film project is “Patient Zero,” co-starring Matt Smith, Natalie Dormer and Stanley Tucci. Set for release in 2017, this drama takes place after an unprecedented global pandemic has turned the majority of humankind into violent Infected, and a man gifted with the ability to speak the Infected’s new language leads the last survivors on a hunt for Patient Zero and a cure. Standen is well known for his portrayal of Sir Gawain in the Starz original series “Camelot,” alongside Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green, and his starring role in the BBC America series “Robin Hood.” Prior to that he played Private Carl Harris in the award-winning sci-fi BBC series “Doctor Who” and starred in the drama “Operation Barras” about the infamous SAS mission in Sierra Leon. In film, Standen most recently starred in “Everest,” opposite Kiera Knightley, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Wright and Josh Brolin, and in “Hammer of the Gods.” Trained as an actor at the National Youth Theatre, National Youth Music Theatre and London Academy of Dramatic Art, Standen appeared in theatrical roles at the Royal Albert Hall and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, as well as in the critically acclaimed revival of Tom Stoppard’s “The Invention of Love.” Born on a British Army base in Northern Ireland, Standen moved to England at the age of 5. He discovered stunt work and sword fighting, and by his teens was working as part of a professional stunt team, mastering skills such as horse riding, jousting and swordplay. A keen martial artist, he also studied Muay Thai boxing and quickly became the undefeated national champion. He currently resides in London with his wife and three children. ABOUT TAKEN, MONDAYS AT 10/9 ON NBC From Executive Producer Luc Besson ("Taken," "The Fifth Element") comes a modern-day, edge-of-your-seat thriller that follows the origin story of younger, hungrier former Green Beret Bryan Mills (Clive Standen, "Vikings") as he deals with a personal tragedy that shakes his world. As he fights to overcome the trauma of the incident and exact revenge, Mills is pulled into a career as a deadly CIA operative, a job that awakens his very particular, and very dangerous, set of skills. In 30 years, this character is destined to become the Bryan Mills that we've come to love from the "Taken" films. The cast includes Jennifer Beals, Gaius Charles, Brooklyn Sudano, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Michael Irby, James Landry Hébert and Jose Pablo Cantillo. Alexander Cary serves as writer and executive producer. Luc Besson, Matthew Gross, Edouard de Vésinne, Thomas Anargyros and director Alex Graves also executive produce.

Losing Our Soundtracks

Listen to "Losing Our Soundtracks" on Spreaker. As of late. Many of us have shared one thing in common. Though the news headlines are cracked. The price of food and medicines continue to grow and the world feels like it's tilting. The one thing as a community that we are having a difficult time dealing with is the loss of our soundtracks. We grasp the concept of birth, living then passing. But what we didn't prepare for is the large number of musicians, actors, authors and other people of fame that helped shape us are moving to the next level. As a kid we'd laugh about death coming in threes. I honestly don't think that's true anymore. I paged through my daily writing and came across something written in January of 2016. A year has gone by. I still feel the impact of hearing the news about Glenn Frey of the Eagles soaring off to another mountain top. I may have written about it to help heal the moment in 2016. But a year later I see it as maybe more of us should be documenting the days of why the artists that became our soundtrack had such an impact. There'll be a day when you'll want to remember but because you didn't write it down. It's gone forever.

Jessica Shattuck

Listen to "Jessicsa Shattuck The Women In The Castle" on Spreaker. Set in a crumbling Bavarian castle that once played host to all of German high society, THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE is the Nazi resisters behind the failed plot to assassinate Hitler, are executed. As the fighting concludes, the women and their children must band together and form a makeshift family to survive the devastating aftermath of the war and attempt to rebuild Germany. Author JESSICA SHATTUCK's previous novels have been hailed across mainstream media, winning accolades from The New York Times Book Review (“witty and promising”), the Los Angeles Times (“pitch-perfect”), People (“stylish storytelling and sharp social commentary”), NPR (“sharp . . . lively . . . wry”), and many other outlets. With THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE, she stretches her already impressive narrative talents to create her boldest and most ambitious novel to date—one that is propulsive, provocative, panoramic, and richly peopled. Partly inspired by Shattuck's own family’s history – THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE grapples with big ideas: good vs. evil; the power of propaganda and divisive rhetoric; issues of moral accountability and political resistance; and, ultimately, whether redemption is ever really possible. Building on the great tradition of beloved World War II stories, such as Bernhard Schlink’s The Reader, while combining the moral complexity and evocative prose of Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See with the female focus and tick-tock narrative of Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale, this new book is a mesmerizing, important book during these times of great political upheaval and polarization, and the moral questions at the heart of it feel more relevant (and necessary) than ever. Stretching back to the 1920s and the beginning of the Nazi era, Shattuck’s story moves through the rise of Hitler, the war years, the immediate postwar period, and into the 1990s (when her three main characters all have American descendants) to address a fundamental moral question: who saw clearly what was happening and who didn’t—or chose not to see—and what, if anything, did they do to resist? With meticulously researched, authentic detail, Shattuck connects us viscerally to the people of this tumultuous time, allowing us to feel its echoes in our own, as only the best historical and literary fiction can do. Epic yet intimate, THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE is, in part, based on the lives of Shattuck’s German grandparents, who were both early supporters of the Nazis but claimed not to know about the Holocaust and other atrocities until the end of the war. Her character Ania, in fact, is loosely based on her grandmother. In addition, Shattuck drew on the experiences of several real-life widows of resisters whom were longtime family friends. The single incident that moved Shattuck to undertake her new novel, more than any other, was stumbling across a picture of her grandfather in Nazi uniform. Although she had known of his past, seeing this visual confirmation jolted her emotionally. Like millions of other ordinary Germans, Shattuck’s grandparents were drawn to what she calls the “perverse idealism” of Nazism in its early years, before the complete extent of its viciousness and depravity became known. Yet, as is evident in her novel, Shattuck believes that in many ways it would have been impossible not to have a full grasp on what was happening by the latter years of the war.
