We' McDonald

Listen to "We McDonald From NBCs The Voice" on Spreaker. The name Wé is Kenyan for "diligence," which is something that Wé has had her entire life. Her father helped her get into vocal lessons at the Harlem School of the Arts, which she still attends afterschool and on weekends. Wé has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and, most recently, at the Apollo Theater. Although Wé has always found her place with music, she struggled to fit in at school. Kids teased her for her high-pitched voice and thick glasses, but she stuck it out and slowly things got better. Now she embraces her differences and is hoping her uniqueness will help her stand out on “The Voice.”

Michael Lawrence

Listen to "Michael Lawrence I'm A Pro Wrestler On The Inside" on Spreaker. The best part about getting to know the world's funniest people? Is hearing about how real they truly are. Michael Lawrence is brilliantly beyond laughter. He writes for several television shows while stepping up to the live microphone in comedy clubs across America. Then he said, "I love listening to podcasts about professional wrestlers. I don't watch wrestling. I just love listening to the stories." You know I had to go down that road.

Carol Bayer Sager

“There are songs that I’ve written that feel like strangers to me,” writes award-winning lyricist Carole Bayer Sager in THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG (October 18, 2016/$28.00 hardcover). “And then there are the songs that define me, that remind me why I wrote in the first place. My best songs made people feel connected, better, hopeful. Even a shared sadness can help to heal someone who’s feeling completely alone. And that someone was often me.” Listen to "Carol Bayer Sager They're Playing Our Song" on Spreaker. For five decades, Sager has been among the most admired and successful songwriters at work, responsible for her lyrical contributions to some of the most popular songs in the English language, including “Nobody Does It Better,” “A Groovy Kind of Love,” “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” and the theme from the movie Arthur, “The Best That You Can Do” (about getting caught between the moon and New York City). She has collaborated with (and written for) a dizzying number of stars, including Peter Allen, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Clint Eastwood, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Carole King, Melissa Manchester, Reba McEntire, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, Frank Sinatra, and Barbra Streisand. Her relationship with composer Marvin Hamlisch was the basis of the long-running hit musical They’re Playing Our Song, for which she wrote the lyrics. And her work with composer Burt Bacharach, to whom she was married for ten years, produced pop standards such as “On My Own” and “That’s What Friends Are For” (inspired by her friendship with Elizabeth Taylor), which raised over two million dollars for AIDS research. But while her professional life was filled with success and fascinating people, her personal life was far more difficult and dramatic. In THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG, Sager tells the surprisingly frank and darkly humorous story of a woman whose sometimes crippling fears and devastating relationships inspired many of the songs she would ultimately write. Witty, candid, and observant, Sager traces her life’s trajectory from a frightened and insecure woman trying to find her way to an accomplished artist confident in her own achievements. The book represents her journey from darkness to light, written in part to give others who are struggling hope. “I look back now and see all the times that something outside of myself became the only thing that made me feel alive—when I was so hungry to do more, accomplish more, or when I thought the person I was with made me feel like more. Today there is nothing outside myself I covet,” she writes. “I’ve learned that external validation is like cotton candy. As you taste it, it bursts into nothing.” THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG will fascinate anyone interested in the craft of songwriting and the joy of collaboration, but Carole Bayer Sager’s memoir is also a deeply personal account of how love and heartbreak made her the woman, and the writer, she is.

Peter Ames Carlin

PAUL SIMON - the boy from Queens scored his first hit record in 1957, just months after Elvis Presley. As the songwriting half of Simon & Garfunkel, Simon's work has helped: define the youth movement of the '60s (“The Sound of Silence,” “Homeward Bound,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water”) on his own in the '70s, he made radio-dominating hits (“Kodachrome,” “Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover,” “Still Crazy After All These Years”) Simon kicked off the '80s by reuniting with Garfunkel to perform for half a million people in New York’s Central Park 5 years later, his album Graceland sold millions and spurred an international political controversy. Just this past June, Simon’s latest album, Stranger to Stranger—which includes “Wristband”—debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album charts. Listen to "Peter Ames Carlin Homeward Bound" on Spreaker. Peter Ames Carlin—bestselling author of the Bruce Springteen biography, Bruce—brings the rather inscrutable Simon vividly to the page in HOMEWARD BOUND: The Life of Paul Simon (Henry Holt and Company). With meticulous detail, he fully reveals one of the most influential popular artists in American history—one whose life and career, in so many ways, exemplify the American experience from 1950 through today. The grandchild of Jewish emigrants from Hungary, Simon has played significant, often controversial, roles in many major cultural and political events of the last sixty year including: from Tin Pan Alley to Spotify the civil rights era to the antiapartheid movement the Monterey Pop Festival to the birth of Saturday Night Live the explosion of Woody Allen’s Annie Hall the era-defining soundtrack to The Graduate the rebirth of the modern Broadway musical If it happened in pop culture, Simon was there. Now 75, Simon has sold more than one hundred million records, won 15 Grammy awards, and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. In HOMEWARD BOUND, Carlin gives us Simon as we’ve not seen him: the boy and the man, the artist and the businessman, the friend, husband, partner and adversary. In short, the whole of the man behind his extraordinary music. About the author: PETER AMES CARLIN is the author of several books, including the New York Times bestseller, Bruce, the biography of Bruce Springsteen. Carlin has been a senior writer at People, and a television columnist and feature writer at The Oregonian. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and three children.

Transition Part Two

Listen to "Transition Part Two" on Spreaker. On November 26, 2015 the writing instrument tightly gripped by my right hand penned out not one but three incredibly powerful pages of transition. At the time. I had no idea what the message was. It's October 27, 2016. In going back the path is extremely visible. We all have shadows. We spend a lot of time and energy trying to push them aside. We break. With no desire to pick ourselves back up. So we allow ourselves to change. When in reality. The path you were chosen to lead still calls out your name. Learning to accept the shadows is page two of Transitions.

Tim Tebow

Listen to "Tim Tebow Shaken" on Spreaker. Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow knows a few things about highs and lows. He had a storybook college football career winning two national championships as a quarterback for the University of Florida. A first-round pick in the NFL draft, he led a sensational playoff run with the Denver Broncos two seasons later. Tebow’s NFL dreams took an unexpected turn when he was traded to the New York Jets and then cut the following year. The next season he was let go after training camp by the New England Patriots. A dream began to crumble. In his new book Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life's Storms (October 25, 2016, WaterBrook), Tebow offers for the first time a glimpse into his rollercoaster journey as a high-profile athlete and how it has helped shape and strengthen his faith. Readers will be riveted as Tebow recalls being called into a head coach’s office knowing the news will be bad. They’ll feel Tebow’s sorrow when the reality sets in that he has no job, no car, no home and likely no future in the NFL. They will fight back tears as he shares the stories of critically ill children who have inspiried him along the way and given him a new understanding of what it means to be strong and courageous. Woven between the stories of his victories and disappointments are encouraging, hard-won lessons on the power of anchoring your identity in God. Through real-life stories and biblical truths, Tebow addresses topic such as: • Where self-identity comes from • Courage under pressure • Beating the voices of negativity • Staying true to who you are and what you believe • Making an impact “One day, according to the world, I’m on top of my game, adored, praised and respected,” writes Tebow. “And the next, I’m at the bottom of the heap, cut, criticized and torn down. You know what I learned in the process? How important it is not to allow either the highs or the lows in life to determine who you are.” Tebow’s experiences will connect with football fans and faith followers alike. Not only will readers be encouraged as they tackle life’s obstacles, they will also be inspired to make a difference. For more information, visit www.waterbrookmultnomah.com or www.timtebow.com/shaken. ABOUT TIM TEBOW Tim Tebow is a two-time national champion, first round NFL draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner. Cooper Phillip

Listen to "Cooper Phillip Party By Myself" on Spreaker. With her stunning voice, beautiful looks and intense drive, COOPER PHILLIP captures the undivided attention of the eyes and ears around her. COOPER has always been a small town girl with dreams bigger than anyone could fully imagine. Born in Russia to a family of classical musicians, her early years were shaped being raised by her grandmother and aunt while her mother, a master violin player, toured around the world with various symphonies. This separation led COOPER to take comfort in music at an early age where she was mesmerized by the vocal stylings of Ella Fitzgerald. She learned her songs inside and out, noticing every nuance of Ella’s phrasing and jazz intonations. At 12 years old, COOPER permanently went to live with her mother. It was a major adjustment for both of them, but her mom soon realized her daughter had a gift and decided to help expand her musical talents. She enrolled COOPER in the prestigious Moscow State Classical Academy where she studied classical piano, theory, harp, jazz, blues, ballet and voice. And it was her vocal teacher at the academy who would prove to be the most pivotal in her development when she introduced her to the music of Mariah Carey. COOPER was obsessed.

Riley Elmore

When he joined Jazz Band, he discovered a passion for Frank Sinatra. Every time Riley takes the stage, he wears a pin with Frank Sinatra sayings given to him by his grandfather. Riley is definitely an old soul, but as a young artist, he still gets nervous on stage and deals with confidence issues, so performing for four superstar coaches is a big step.

Double Knots

Listen to "Double Knots" on Spreaker. Lets be honest. How many people actually get to realize their childhood dream? To one day become exactly what you pushed forward. I love sitting with my grandchildren and listening to where they've guided their early paths. Only to sit alone wondering if I reached where that kid in the bedroom thought it would end up. My childhood friends all knew of my radio aspirations and how I dedicated my teen years to physically being on the air and not on a football field. What you see and hear isn't what you think. I've had untied shoes.

Simon Reynolds Shock And Awe

Listen to "Simon Reynolds Shock And Awe" on Spreaker. From the acclaimed author of Rip It Up and Start Again and Retromania—“the foremost popular music critic of this era (Times Literary Supplement)—comes the definitive cultural history of glam and glitter rock, celebrating its outlandish fashion and outrageous stars, including David Bowie and Alice Cooper, and tracking its vibrant legacy in contemporary pop. Spearheaded by David Bowie, Alice Cooper, T. Rex, and Roxy Music, glam rock reveled in artifice and spectacle. Reacting against the hairy, denim-clad rock bands of the late Sixties, glam was the first true teenage rampage of the new decade. In Shock and Awe, Simon Reynolds takes you on a wild cultural tour through the early Seventies, a period packed with glitzy costumes and alien make-up, thrilling music and larger-than-life personas. Shock and Awe offers a fresh, in-depth look at the glam and glitter phenomenon, placing it the wider Seventies context of social upheaval and political disillusion. It explores how artists like Lou Reed, New York Dolls, and Queen broke with the hippie generation, celebrating illusion and artifice over truth and authenticity. Probing the genre’s major themes—stardom, androgyny, image, decadence, fandom, apocalypse—Reynolds tracks glam’s legacy as it unfolded in subsequent decades, from Eighties art-pop icons like Kate Bush through to twenty-first century idols of outrage such as Lady Gaga. Shock and Awe shows how the original glam artists’ obsessions with fame, extreme fashion, and theatrical excess continue to reverberate through contemporary pop culture.

Lol Tolhurst From The Cure

Listen to "The Cures Lol Tolhurst Cured" on Spreaker. For the first time in the band’s forty-year history, here is the incredible story of The Cure—virtual inventors of alternative music—from someone who was there at the very beginning. Because Robert Smith prefers to let the band’s songs speak for themselves, Cured is the only insider memoir of the group that’s helped generations navigate their angst-filled teen years. A founding “imaginary boy,” Lol Tolhurst threads the genesis of The Cure through his adolescence with Smith, the iconic leader of the group, to their stratospheric rise as one of the most influential, critically acclaimed, and commercially successful bands of modern times. After forming in 1976, Lol and The Cure racked up an impressive number of achievements that includes selling over 27 million units worldwide and earning 40 Platinum and Gold Records in the U.S., Europe and Japan. The band’s journey to global success is woven into a story that reveals the highs and lows of the lifelong friendship between Lol and Robert, who met at age five on their first day of school together in Crawley, England, 1964. For both diehards and the uninitiated, Cured highlights the parts of a creative trek that are not normally revealed to fans, as Lol takes readers on his personal odyssey from suburban London to the Mojave desert and across the miles of love, addiction, pain, forgiveness and redemption. “This is a record of the things that have kept me awake at 4 a.m., the precious flowers of the past blooming in the dark corners of memory,” writes Lol. “I have tried my best to capture whatever that light shone on. I hope it illuminates events for you as much as it has for me.” Cured is the story of a timeless band and a life truly lived. Pearl Thompson, who played guitar for The Cure and created the majority of the band’s album art, had a hand in designing the book’s cover art. LOL TOLHURST BIO Lol Tolhurst is a musician, writer and performer. He is best known as a founding member of the band that virtually invented alternative music, The Cure. Formed in 1976, The Cure is one of the most influential, successful and critically acclaimed bands of its generation. As The Cure’s drummer, Lol toured the globe many times over, supporting the ground-breaking albums Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. He took on keyboard duties in the mid-eighties until his departure from the band in 1989, at the time of their masterwork Disintegration. In the early nineties, Lol relocated to Southern California where he continues to write, record and tour with his own band, Levinhurst. More recently, 2011 saw a momentous reunion tour with his former bandmates and Lol performing with The Cure again for the first time in over twenty years. He lives in Los Angeles.

Listen to "The Lyrics From Billys Forest Chapter 43" on Spreaker. Sitting on the inside sleeve of an approaching hurricane only to watch the outside shell still suffering opens the path to think of the personal storms we each endure. We have been trained to clean up after the winds. Its because man has forgotten how to be aware. We allow others to see and predict for us. The signs of change are always written on God's horizon. But we continue to move in ways that lead us toward the destruction rather than the preparation.

Grant Cardone

Listen to "Grant Cardone Be Obsessed Or Be Average" on Spreaker. Advocates for work-life balance suggest that an obsession with work is a bad thing, but what if an obsession is exactly what makes you stand out in whatever you’re trying to achieve in life! Grant Cardone – entrepreneur, multimillionaire and bestselling author – argues that when people are obsessed, they build their life around their deepest passion, and suddenly the concept of “work-life balance” vanishes altogether. In BE OBSESSED OR BE AVERAGE, Cardone recounts his journey from broke, jobless and drug-addicted to realizing his lifelong dreams which he accomplished by giving himself permission to say yes to his burning, outrageous, animal obsessions. Cardone not only explains why this mindset can work for anyone looking to end the epidemic of average, but proposes necessary steps….jolting your listeners out of their cocoon of mediocrity and empowering them to become completely and unapologetically obsessed with their obsessions!! Please let me know if you’re interested in an interview on Monday, October 17th – under 2 weeks away – so that I can get you out a copy of the book right away! Author proceeds will be donated to Drug Free America and Drug Free World, that help bring about awareness to the drugging of children, teenagers and young adults.

Into The Fire

Listen to "Bryan Scott From Into The Fire" on Spreaker. American hard rock band INTO THE FIRE was conceived in 2013 by vocalist Bryan Scott (The Union Underground, Cult To Follow), bassist Tim King (SOiL) and guitarist Adam Zadel (SOiL). Long time friend Will Hunt (Evanescence) was brought in on drums soon after. "I was sitting around with Adam one day talking about who would be great to jam with" states bassist Tim King. "I shot Bryan Scott a text message and Into The Fire was born a day later" The group grabbed onto this opportunity and started putting material together. According to Bryan Scott "As soon as Tim sent me the material I immediately had ideas and started putting vocals down. The music had the perfect vibe for what I wanted to do." Todd Mayfield Unplugged and Totally Uncut

Listen to "Todd Mayfield Traveling Soul" on Spreaker. Curtis Mayfield was one of the seminal vocalists and most talented guitarists of his era. But perhaps more important is his role as a social critic, and the vital influence his music had on the civil rights movement. "People Get Ready" is the black anthem of the 1960s, and on his soundtrack to the 1972 movie Super Fly, rather than glorifying the blaxploitation imagery of the film, Mayfield wrote and sang one of the most incisive audio portraits of black America on record. In Traveling Soul, Todd Mayfield tells his famously private father’s story in riveting detail. Born into dire poverty, raised in the slums of Chicago, Curtis became a musical prodigy, not only singing like a dream but also growing into a brilliant songwriter. In the 1960s he became a pioneer, opening his own label and production company and working with many other top artists, including the Staple Singers. Curtis’s life was famously cut short by an accident that left him paralyzed, but in his declining health he received the long-awaited recognition of the music industry. Passionate, illuminating, vivid, and absorbing, Traveling Soul will doubtlessly take its place among the classics of music biography. Todd Mayfield is Curtis Mayfield’s second-oldest son. He is an entrepreneur and former financial services executive in Chicago, and promotes his father’s music and legacy.

How dare you say to your past that it no longer carries the weight to have a vote in what you do or say. The most difficult part of the path isn't truly what I ask. But rather the outside circles of people that think I speak a different language. When in reality its their past that gets in the way of my creative accent.
